บท 21: Already Back?

****(POV)

This is a historical moment for the forest. I have no idea why or how it even happened, but we are hosting a friend of Yggdrasil. How extraordinary is that?!

I wonder what plans Yggdrasil has for this young man. Perhaps he will join our ranks as a guardian?

Still, this seems peculiar. This has never happened.n Also, we are more his servants than friends. To be specifically referred to as such by such a mythical one is such an honor!

I can't believe the bear is the one that found him first, also that tiger, and that dwarf! He knew all along that we were going to get his visit, but he never deigned to tell us! Well, he forgot.

He can remember any single tiny detail concerning his craft, but anything else he is the least reliable of them all.

The newcomer left with the spider to learn some magic. This is a point that leaves me perplexed. How did a friend of Yggdrasil not even master magic already?

It should be known that Yggdrasil himself is one that puts any genius to shame. The number of spells he designed on the spot is countless.

While others need to spend their entire lives slowly researching magic he just uses it as naturally as we breathe.

Actually, as I used to breathe. I am long dead after all. This form does allow me to worry less about insignificant mortal problems that would be in the way of my elegance.

Talking about elegance this is truly a shame. I will have to bear my earlier faux-pas for the remainder of my undead existence. When I met him, I was convinced he was bluffing. He was not.

I truly lost myself when I saw him touch Yggdrasil without getting annihilated. Not only was I a disgrace but I slapped myself in the face as he used my own words against me. That made me extremely angry. Toward myself that is.

In the future, I will have to make sure I handle myself around him. It is already too late to leave a good first impression, but I can still slowly amend it. I am a civilized elf ghost after all. Nothing is impossible for me!

Right now, I am in the same clearing with the bear and the tiger. I just surprised them when they were whispering amongst themselves. I usually do not care about their insane ramblings, but for once it seems pertinent.

They are hiding information about this newcomer and I will get to the bottom of it. No matter what. These guys are actually pretty easy to interrogate.

The trick is to ask some superficial random questions and see how they react. Then I can dive into the most accurate ones. By comparing their reactions to earlier I can easily see when they are lying.

They are not good at hiding their emotions since both are very forthright individuals. They try their best but very soon they are cornered. They explain everything they know…. At least everything they think they know.

I am not sure what I was expecting. This is truly ridiculous. Somehow, these two idiots are convinced that he is the one that taught Yggdrasil. They are convinced that he is hiding his power and acting low-key.

They are convinced that he did all that to teach them a lesson. They are truly idiots. I feel like facepalming right about now.

How should I explain this to them? The one they call Yggdrasil's mentor is a god for sure. He has single-handedly raised up a mythical being from when it was not even conscious. Such a feat is only possible for a deity.

Them thinking that the newcomer is a deity is extremely far stretched. Especially considering the only basis they have is that he is able to touch the tree without dying. Yes, that is impressive but there can also be many more realistic explanations for such a thing.

All of their other arguments seem more like them misunderstanding things on their own, to be honest. He himself admitted that finding the bear's hiding spot was only luck.

Then again he cannot be blamed for that. He did try many times to deny their crazy suppositions it seems. The more he denies it, the more the tiger believes he is a hidden expert. He is simply like that.

Even when we keep telling him that we have never sighted a UFO he still gets worried about them. We know for a fact that they exist from the teachings of Yggdrasil, but only in a different universe than this one. Worrying about something like that is not only pointless but a waste of time.

If this world gets attacked by otherworldly creatures, we will deal with it when the time comes. We should instead focus on getting stronger and defending well against the known threats.

To be honest these are not especially dangerous in the short term. There are many civilizations that are developing currently, but most are still too weak to pose a real danger. As I'm thinking that, I hear the two idiots.

"Teacher this tiger welcomes you back!"

"Teacher, how was it? Are you done showing new tricks to the spider...eh are you done learning new tricks from the spider?"

He is already back? He seems to be sighing recalling something annoying.

[Well, I am done training for now. She didn't teach me much and she won't be able to teach for a while. Anyone got any idea of something else I could learn instead?]

This is peculiar. What does he mean by she won't be able to teach him in the short term?

"What happened to her?"

He seems unsure of how to explain himself.

[Well, she is unconscious at the moment. I believe she is fine. Still, before she wakes up she won't be able to show me anything. In any case, I'm not sure I was very compatible with her teaching style anyway.]

What?! The spider, one of the guardians, is now unconscious!

How did such a thing happen?!
