Chapter 63: Congratulations.
Micah explained everything that he knew, which seemed to be quite a lot. It almost seemed too detailed for someone to remember with only one attempt, but that didn't stick out as weird since some cultivators were known to have more memory retention than the regular person.
Kalon sat and patiently listened as he was filled in on all of the things that he might need to know.
"This is only supposed to be a doorway. There are a set of commands upon it that control which door opens and where it opens. If all of the Qi is sucked dry from the room, then it is supposed to open up the exit for us to leave. It's supposed to be a team exercise since there is such an abundance of Qi, but I wanted to get ahead and benefit as much as possible before anyone else figured it out.
So I didn't expect that the door would open early and everyone would leave. I honestly don't know if we will be able to get out now. This just seems weird." Micah said while rubbing his chin, but just as he did, the sounds of stone grinding together made their way throughout the room as it shook slightly.
'What's happening now?' Kalon thought to himself as he had missed it the first time and didn't know that it meant that a door was about to open. But as the door opened, a familiar voice called out once again.
"Congratulations on making it through the second part of the test. You completed it much faster than I thought you would if I am being honest." The old man who had greeted them at the start said as he walked into the stone room but then stopped as he looked around to see that all of the children had vanished.
"Wait, Where did the rest of you go? Over ten people entered here. Why are there only three of you now?" The old man asked, confused about what had happened, which only led to more confusion from the three boys.
They assumed that the teachers at the school would have an idea about what had happened, but by the expression that the old man had on his face, they could tell that he also didn't know what was going on.
"Well, The three of us were cultivating since the Qi was a lot stronger here. But after a while, the door began to open, and the others all walked outside into a dimly lit room. We stayed here, and as soon as they left, the door closed, and we were brought here. We're not sure what happened." Sam's son brought out a little bit of confidence as he addressed the old man.
"Is that so?" The old man said with a worried look on his face. Just how was he going to explain that the children had gone missing to their parents, especially since he had promised to return them all in one piece.
"Did you happen to know what the room looked like? The space warp room shouldn't take you anywhere that isn't within the school, so they have to be somewhere nearby." The old man said with a little bit of relief in his voice as he remembered that they couldn't have gone too far.
Kalon looked at both Micha and Sam's son with a look of concern as he didn't see what had happened but. Despite Micah circulating his Qi in the corner of the room. He watched on in secret and kept an eye out for his chance to move on to the next test.
"It was dark. Like really dark and a strange aura came from there. It is almost demonic. The only other thing I can remember was the blue glow that entered the room we were all sitting in. The rest of them thought that it was all part of the test and went on ahead. But we remained still and tried to absorb as much Qi as we could." Micha spoke up for the group as they all tried to understand what was going on. Especially Kalon
'Demonic? What does that mean? Does it have something to do with those beasts that used to live within the empire? I remember hearing about them in an old book that mom used to read to me. They can't actually be real, can they?' Kalon thought as he remembered something from his childhood.
"You say demonic? Well, there is only one room within the academy that has something like that. But I don't know how they could have gotten there? The space warp room is designed to take you where you want to go. Unless someone intentionally wanted to go there?" The old man asked and then looked at the three boys with suspicion for a few moments.
"Did you notice anyone acting strangely while you were all in there?" The old man asked another question to try to determine what was going on. But once again, Kalon was at a loss. He didn't see anything since he was immersed within cultivation. But Sam's son saw everything.
"Well, There was a boy that stood up and suggested that we all worked together, but another boy told him to shut up and wait patiently, and they almost got into a fight with each other before the door opened. But other than that, I didn't see anything." He said while recalling what had happened.
"That's very helpful. What is your name, young man?" The old man asked with a gentle smile as he praised the boy for telling him all that he had seen.
"My name is Paul, sir." Sam's son said with a smile. It was the first time that someone had asked for his name since coming here, and he was excited to make it known to everyone nearby.
"Well, Paul, Once we find the others. I will ask you to identify who was involved in that little fight if it's not too much trouble." The old man asked and then looked at the other three boys before his eyes set on Kalon.
'The one with a new foundation made it here? I thought that he would be a sheep and follow the others for protection, but it seems like he took full advantage of the increased Qi and is close to being at the middle stage of Qi refining.' The old man thought as he looked at Kalon, but he quickly looked away as Kalon made eye contact.
'Why does he keep looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?' Kalon asked himself as he realised that the old man seemed particularly interested in him.
"Of course, sir, I'm happy to help," Paul said with a smile before turning back to look at the other two who were each thinking about something different.
"Well then, I will go and find them now. And again, congratulations. Your new examiner will now come and tell you about your next test so wait here for a few moments, please, and I will send him in." The old man announced to all three of them and then walked back outside of the stone room as loud and heavy footsteps began to approach from a distance.
