Chapter 46: What is it?

When Kalon came to and was able to move again, Roah instructed him on how he should cultivate to restore his strength. It was practically the same way he had done before by circulating his Qi and then reading the mantra over and over again. But as he was doing that, he needed to focus on moving the Qi around his body and not just directing it into his dantian.

Qi was the life force of all living things, so it was only natural that it could heal injuries and help restore your body after losing a lot of energy. The only problem was when stepping into a new stage of cultivation was the fact that the dantian would expand hundreds of times, and the energy needed to be able to move again would increase. So that was why most cultivators would use Qi absorbing pills to help absorb Qi faster. However, Roah didn't bring any with her for the journey, so Kalon had to do it the hard way.

He sat down on the bench with his legs crossed and cultivated day and night, only taking bathroom breaks and time away to eat. But other than that, he was forced to cultivate so he could become stronger and have a better chance at protecting himself.

"We're only a day away from the capital, and I'm starting to feel a little bit nervous for him. What if he has trouble adjusting to city life? He doesn't know the value of Ysavien money, and he doesn't know most social etiquettes and will probably have difficulty learning where to go to get daily essentials.

What if he runs into a criminal and has no way of fighting back and ends up getting sold as a slave. I can't bear to deal with this. Why did I think it would be a good idea to send a child to the capital to live on his own?" Roah questioned herself. She was starting to regret putting Kalon in a situation where he didn't know anything and felt as though she had made a mistake. But as she looked over at Kalon, who was diligently cultivating at the opposite side of the carriage, she felt a little relieved.

From what she had seen, Kalon had a far greater mental resistance than other children his age. Any other twelve year old who had been surrounded by cannibals would have cried for their mother, but Kalon took it without so much as shedding a tear. And the scars that covered his body were also an indication that he was more durable than he looked on the surface.

With his innocent-looking face, it would be easy to assume that he had come from an aristocratic family, but his lack of manners, dress sense and common sense would immediately tell you otherwise. She felt awful that she had burdened him with becoming a cultivator, but when she heard that his dream was to become a strong warrior, she jumped at the opportunity to help him achieve that dream.

But Roah knew that the world was a cruel place with many hardships, and the path of cultivation would curse you to a life of misery and loss. But despite that fact, she believed that Kalon would be OK with anything that was thrown at him.

'There's one more day until we will have to part with each other. I should give him something to help him during his new life path.' Roah thought to herself as she glanced outside to see a familiar sight that let her know that they were almost in the capital.

She watched the trees pass by as the setting sun sprinkled down between the branches as they blew in the breeze and came up with an idea on what she could give to Kalon. They would soon be coming to a stop for the night to let the horses rest, so she thought it would be the perfect time to give it to him.

She smiled and leaned back in her seat before reaching down into the pouch on her belt and then waiting for the carriage to come to a stop. As soon as it did, Roah tapped Kalon on the shoulder, breaking him from his trance-like state and disrupting the flow of Qi surrounding him.

"Huh? What is it?" Kalon asked while looking up at Roah. He had gotten used to controlling his Qi for the past few days and was beginning to feel as though it was getting easier to snap in and out of the trance like state he would find himself in when cultivating.

"Well, we will arrive in the capital tomorrow, and I was hoping that I could give you a gift before then that might help you if you ever find yourself getting into trouble," Roah said with a smile as she reached down to grab his hand and then pulled him out from the carriage and carefully lowered him to the ground.

"Wait, what kind of gift? I didn't think that you were carrying anything valuable?" Kalon asked, confused before looking down at the small pouch by her waist and remembering that she could store whatever she wanted inside it.

Roah let go of Kalons hand and began to walk a little before finding a place on the grass that was still warmed by the sun beaming down on it and then sat upon it with her back to him.

"Come here, and I will show you." Roah turned her head and patted the floor beside her to show him where to sit. Kalon felt a little anxious to see what she had in store for him but knew that it couldn't have been something terrible and sat beside her regardless.

"Here. This was the first thing my master gifted me when I became his student. It's not something as valuable as a cultivation technique, so I can give this to you without worrying about being kicked out of my sect." Roah said as she pulled out an old and torn sheet of paper and handed it to him.

Kalon reached out and took it from her hands before looking at it closer to see that it was just a folded piece of paper that looked as though it would rip if he tried to unfold it.

"What is it?" Kalon asked as he flipped it over to see if there was another clue that might tell him what she had given him, but there wasn't. It was just blank.

"You will find out if you open it, so go ahead," Roah said with a chuckle as she saw he was struggling to understand what he was holding in his hands.
