บท 5: A chat with Genghis
While having our drinks we started to chat about things from here and there.
"You know Genghis, I have been thinking of doing a collaboration with Yìchén being the architect for a luxury residential project. Why don't you join us as the interior designer"
"It's a good idea but what will Yin say about it?"
"We were talking about it while we went to the site visit yesterday," I said.
"Hmm... I will think about it.. just give me a second I'll just check on her and come."
While he went I roamed about the library and the living room. There were several paintings that seems to be drawn by the same person. These paintings seem to be given out someone's calm personality.
"Someone seems to be appreciating the paintings" I heard Genghis's voice.
"I am not a painter to critic these but they do make you feel calm."
"Good to know these calm your mind." He said laughing.
"Who drew these?"
"I did, during the time Nuo was in a coma."
"Did she stay n hospital for a long time?"
"About a year. Even though she regains consciousness, she sometimes blacks out."
"Was It something serious?" I asked as I was shocked to hear this.
"It might happen if she gets frightened or anxious."
"Genghis, if you don't want to talk about it, it's ok. But I would like to know what happened to her"
"hmm...That day I was supposed to pick her up after class. it has been my ritual every day and I would accompany her into my office. She would help me with my designs."
"So is she?"
"No she was not into Interior but anything creative was her major. She was a perfectionist. She would even scold me if I didn't do things properly." I laughed imagining her being a boss.
"You know Lan I can still see her building things with the leftover scraps."
"So what happened?"
"That day my fiancee wanted to go to one of her friend's party And that was not the kind of a party for a girl to go to. So I argued with her not to go. But..."
He took some time.
"Instead of picking up Nuo, I went with her. After about an hour I got a call from my assistant, asking me to come to the hospital soon. I somehow asked him what happened, and I immediately started to leave after explaining to Andy what has happened. This made Andy very angry and cursed my sister. I broke up with her and left for the hospital."
"So what did really happen?"
"Nuo was famous in school, everyone knew her. But there was a group of girls who were jealous of her. So they had planned to attack her before her piano recital."
"So they got the opportunity because you were not there," I said after concluding what might have happened.
"The aftershock of what happened was too big. She is half the little Nuo I knew. Even the slightest thing unfamiliar thing makes her frightened or anxious. So someone has to be with her all the time."
"But tonight at the beach she didn't react," I asked Genghis, as I was curious.
"That's because I was nearby. She only is herself a little when I am near her.
"You must be having a tough time right?"
"I am used to it. That's why I only take about four to five projects a month."
"Don't you miss your life there"
"I am happy to be wherever Nuo is."
At the same time, Yin called to talk about the draft plan.
"HI... guess who is with me?" I asked Yin.
"HI, Yin"
"Oh my Genghis, what are you doing with Lan?"
"Lan's parents invited us for dinner so we met and had a chit-chat."
"Lan, did you tell Genghis about the project?"
"Yes, I did. Why don't we all meet up together one day and discuss?" I put on speaker.
"I think it's a good idea. So when do we meet?"
"Genghis, you choose," I said.
"What about lunch next Wednesday?"
"Are you ok with it, Genghis?" I asked.
"Yes, I can manage.'
We agreed to meet on Wednesday for lunch. After that, I went home and called Yin.
"Hi, Yin... are you asleep?"
"No, what's up Lan?"
"It's about Nuo, Genghis's sister."
"What's up?"
"Genghis has taken the full responsibility to take care of her. So he does only a very few amount of work per month. So do you think it's ok for us to trouble him with a big project? "
"Hmm... Lan, I think he's up to it. He just came back here so he definitely needs a project that can help him to capture the major firms here."
I have to say what Yin says is true. Genghis came back after giving up everything there to start again. I hope he is able to adjust to the ways in here.
"Lan is his sister's situation really bad?"
"She seems to be an exceptional girl before, but Genghis thinks he's at fault for what happened to her. So he's really in a conflicted situation with himself."
"Hmm... If all get together and help each other, I think we three can benefit and fight for what is right. I also believe that we all think in the same wavelength."
"Hmm ok then. Why don't we all meet up the time you bring the draft design." I asked Yin.
"Ok, we'll do like that. You will tell Genghis about this right?"
"Yes, sure I will."
