The cloud above her was clear despite it being night. Several stars decorated them, some occasionally twinkling and winking at her. Mariam stood from where she originally sat. Her legs almost gave out on her yet she managed to stay standing.
The blue dress she wore flattered in the soft breeze that attempted to blow at her hair. The face veils she wore stayed intact, teasing her features masked under its cover. The sand was still warm beneath her feet. Her anklet chimed from time to time.
Once again, she sashayed gracefully towards the place where it had ended. The battlefield was now filled with nothing but sand. Having lived here all her life, she could easily pinpoint the exact location.
Her feet came to a sudden halt, eyes looking around. She could see the valiant figure of Maimuna fighting for her people. She imagined her mother's broken look and painful death. She was taken back to witness her father's anguished look.
I don't know if I have done justice to this chap but I tried. Mariam was a villain who was given a chance at redemption. She finally attained it. This is her rebirth. She was finally free from the guilt and regrets of the past. however, the trauma remains. One can forgive but forgetting is always the harder thing to achieve. What do you think?
