30% Lady Toni's Great Escape / Chapter 15: Gathering My Wealth

บท 15: Gathering My Wealth

"What?! Thirty? That is a few strands more than what I could grasp back then. Contrary to what people believe, the strands of natural law that one could grasp at Grand Magister stage do not have a fixed limit. It is a person's potential that dictates how many one could grasp. The more strands one has, the higher the potential. You have exceeded my expectations, Celestine. You are as brilliant as ever. Do not be in a rush to start creating your domain. Try to grasp even more strands of natural law. It is better to have a firm foundation before stepping into the Magi realm." Count Halcyon rubbed his chin and nodded, a look of delight flashing in his eyes.

I blinked at him. Oh hoh. What do we have here? A magi is imparting his experiences. Such a chance is rare even for the geniuses of magic universities. One must know that Magis are respected personages who are usually reclusive and will only come out either for things that pique their curiosity or when a disaster strikes. Having the Count as a mentor was a fortune anyone would fight over and even kill for.

Well, who asked him to be my grandpa? Luck is also a skill.

With a fervent nod, I answered. "I will keep that in mind, Grandpa. I will surely heed your advice."

"Good. Good." He said with a laugh. The air around us has mellowed out, giving me a sense of comfort.

"Grandpa, you don't need to send a carriage on the night of my departure in this mansion. Just give me the coordinates of your countryside estate. I could write my own spatial gate now anyway, I could go there with less hassle. It will also save me the time. Though it would eat greatly at my energy reserves, I think it's still worth it since I'll be able to rest at your place anyway." I said neutrally as I nibbled on the neglected macaron that was served a few chapters ago.

"Oh? You are now able to draw your own spatial gate? That means you have mastered the short-distance teleport spell and possess a strand of natural space law." He commented with an approving nod.

I actually have more than one strand of it. I have a bunch in fact. I even have strands of natural time law. I guess my being from another world contributed to the abundance of the strands relating to natural space time laws that I have. But I figured it would be safer to keep that to myself so I didn't mention it to the Count.

"Yes. So, you don't have to go through the trouble. You just have to wait for me there in a fortnight. I'll be there in time for dinner." I responded coupled with a sweet smile.

"Alright. I'll be seeing you in a fortnight then. Reaffirm your convictions and sort out whatever business you have left here for the meantime." Count Halcyon then stood up. He waved his hand and a piece of folded parchment appeared on the table.

"Those are the coordinates. I shall take my leave now. Lest those people figure out that I am here and pester me again." I took the parchment and sent it in my spatial ring. Giggling at his annoyed tone, I accompanied him to the door. I knew who he was referring to when he said 'those people'. They were probably the old men from the magic universities and those from the magic tower.

"Well, it's not everyday that they get a chance to consult someone of your status Grandpa. I don't blame them. But I can't sympathize either. It was their misfortune not to have a Magi as a grandfather." I said snarkily, a playful grin in my lips. Of course I earned a flick on the forehead for that. I get it alright. I'll tone down the bragging.

"Have a safe trip, Grandpa. See you soon." The Count nodded at me and proceeded to his carriage. Contrary to expectations, Grandpa did not let the carriage run until the gates. He just immediately had it fly off. Guess he really was in a hurry. I wouldn't be surprised if he was like those celebrities back in my world who get mobbed by fans. Though for him, he gets mobbed by old men. Maybe that's why he's in a rush.

That image elicited another laugh at me. But I composed myself before proceeding back inside the mansion. When I arrived at my door, I saw Wilhelm pacing anxiously back and forth.

"Anything the matter, Grandpa Wilhelm?" I inquired, tilting my head to the side curiously. As far as I knew, this old butler has always been calm.

"My lady, there you are. Might I ask where Master Halcyon is?" He asked carefully. My brows creased in question.

"Grandpa has just left. Did you have business with him?"

The old butler's head drooped after I answered. I felt that he was acting quite strange. But since I couldn't put a finger on what it was, I just pushed it out of my mind.

"I see. It is nothing important, my lady. No need for you to worry." I nodded in understanding and walked inside my chambers. Then I remembered something crucial.

Right. Grandpa said to decide where to go.

"Uhm, Grandpa Wilhelm, if it isn't any trouble could you please fetch me a map. And the travelogues in the library. There's something I want to confirm. Thank you in advance." I beamed when he gave me an affirmative reply. That was one problem down. All that's left were my things. What will I take with me out of this house?

I roamed my eyes around the room taking in the lavishness of it. I know that Grandpa Hal will probably give enough money to last me a lifetime of luxury wherever I decide to go. But I still felt that I should take the few things that belong to me rather than leave everything in this place.

Basically, I'd be gathering my wealth. Most of them were the jewellery and clothes that were gifted to me by my grandfather. There were also those given to me by acquaintances and people who wanted to curry favor with me back then before my status went into total nosedive. They weren't much but they still count. All those went to my spatial ring in a thought.

I then saw the few things that my elder brother gave me back when our relationship was still considered okay. I contemplated for a while whether I'll take them or not.

In the end, I decided to only take the music box Carlisle gifted me on my 7th birthday. Just that. Not to be sentimental or anything. I just liked the tune. And I've never had a music box before. Along with the books on magic and other topics that were in my room and my stationeries. I wasn't fond of makeup so I ignored those along with the skin care sets. I wanted to make my own.

Skincare back in my world was the bomb. So these primitive ones didn't appeal much to me. As for the rest that was left, I ignored them as well. They were given to me half-heartedly, as an obligation they have to the only young lady of the Trier House. Well, I was cutting off that identity from my person. Therefore I will leave everything that is associated with it.

In the end after I had taken what I deemed was appropriate to be taken, it was as if nothing changed. Others wouldn't even notice anything missing from my room.

"How ironic."
