บท 12: Please Help Me Run Away From Here

"...Celestine von Trier deserved better."

My voice cut through the air, cold and sharp. The air thickened as a murderous air exuded from me. Despite the petite beauty that I am now, the palpable dignity of an elite captain still remained. My experiences in the Special Forces were engraved in my soul. It will never fade whether I was in a new body or not. If my team were here, they'd definitely run as far as they could. Because they knew that I was thoroughly furious.

"There is no need for you to apologize for stating the truth." The old man looked weary but still replied to me politely. In fact, he seemed to be too caught up in his emotions that he didn't even bother to comment on the change of her disposition.

"May I ask then, who you actually are?" He asked curiously after a while. I had already retracted my murderous aura by this time. I smiled genially at him before giving the identity that I previously had.

"Bai Feng Jiu, Captain of the Special Forces of Country Z." I stood up, bowed, and cupped my fist at the Count in a respectful manner. Just as how every person in Country Z does to show their respect. I saw fleetingly an astonished expression in his face. As to why he was so stunned by this act, I just contributed it to the fact that maybe it was a novel encounter for him.

"Ah. Bai is my surname. Feng Jiu is my given name." I added as an afterthought when I sat down again. Toni was aware of this since she had my memories but the Count may not. After all, the way people are introduced here was the opposite.

"You are from Eashen?" I shook my head at his question.

'Eashen? Nah. Gramps, I'm from a whole other dimension.' I remarked internally like it was some sort of inside joke.

"No. I am not from Eashen. I'm not from this world to be exact. My country is quite similar to Eashen, however. So I can understand why Your Grace might have assumed so." I chuckled as I clarified myself.

"I know I ought to be surprised with you saying that you are not from this world but I am well aware that all sorts of things are possible, what more of you not being from here." He countered and nodded in understanding.

I was low-key impressed. In fact, I was internally commending the old Count for his rationality. Not everyone could be as calm as he is in the face of this absurd situation. But I guess someone who dabbles in divination arts and soul magic for so long have seen some even more absurd things.

I touched the rims of the teacup gingerly. The tea within has long gone cold from being left untouched the whole duration of our conversation.

My eyes drifted to the scenery reflected in the windows. The woods looked ominous at night but during the day, they were strangely calming.

"We made an oath. The two of us. From now on, I am Celestine. And she is Bai Feng Jiu. We are one and the same. And that we will live on happily as ourselves in our respective worlds. She will give justice to my life there. And I will grant her freedom here."

I felt melancholic. This was another life in another world. The unknown prospects were exciting but also scary. I don't know what's waiting for me out there but I intend to keep my word. I will live on happily. I will give Celestine von Trier her freedom. She gambled her soul to change her fate so I might as well make it worthwhile and enjoy the process. I might have been dragged into this but maybe all of this is also some sort of destiny.

"Toni said that I should live as I am. And that if I don't like it here, I don't have to force myself." Count Halcyon remained silent during my entire spiel. Yet I knew his eyes were trained onto me. I met his gaze.

Now that I think about it, amongst the entire Trier family I was the only one with this kind of phoenix eyes and jeweled peridot pupils. The lot of them had blue eyes except for Madame Carissa who had emerald ones. I was of the opinion that my eyes were a variation of hers. Yet it seems that I inherited it from this grandfather of mine. The only difference was that his shone with the vicissitudes of life.

'We have the same eye color. Was that some sort of magic back then? That strange blue gleam?' I wondered internally but ignored it in the end. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

"That is why, I intend to leave. Count Halcyon... no... Grandfather, please help me run away from here. From this cold and cruel place."

The two of us had a staredown contest for god knows how long. It was until the Count rubbed his face in surrender that I knew my plans would push through without fail.

"You call me Grandfather, child. So how could you expect me to let you leave your family?"

With that simple question, I knew the Count had accepted me as his own. I felt relieved and utterly happy. But that feeling was curbed at the same time.

"You are my only family in this place." I answered coldly without any room for arguments.

I do not treat the Trier's as my family. The only thing that connected me to them was the blood running through the veins in this body and the flesh that made it up. But the very soul which was connected to them far beyond that, were driven out by them in desperation. At some point in a different future, she even died pathetically and alone.

If Celestine did not see that prophetic dream, she would really have ended that way. And none of the Trier's were even remotely sorrowful about it. It was the opposite.
