Calista, the current Queen of Eks Corp, smiled at her youngest son with real amusement.

Brendan lifted an eyebrow, and then realized a moment later that it was an expression his father would have used. His face shifted into a more neutral expression, that went even flatter when his mother laughed aloud.

"You've gained more confidence," she told him a little smugly.

He gave her an utterly baffled look that made her laugh again, but before he could ask what she meant, a new message from Kensa arrived. He flicked his wrist into the best position to view the anim, before explaining aloud, "It's Kensa."

Calista sobered, and watched him with an alert expression, but didn't interrupt.
