The reason why that continent was abandoned by the humans is because of the presence of the beast kings that took over the land.

At that time, the advancement of technology reached the point that man is able to create portals to shorten traveling from one area to another. It was a new project with much uncertainty and danger.

However, when the beasts attacked that project was the only hope for mankind to survive.
