no, they were the mornings that brought everyone back to the harsh reality that their women and children were camped in caves for their own safety. The reality was that their home was the very center of a war whose source they were yet to understand.

A war that didn't do them any good. Such mornings in Alexei were lonely, with death and survival in the minds of the warriors who had come to save whatever was to be saved of Alexei. They knew that if Alexei fell, then it would be over for them.
