Ed had plenty of gadgets that could help them. He came to the captain's cabin with some kind of a stick that had movable parts that helped him calculate astronomical events and the positions of certain locations. Serenica looked at the stick. It had numbers and formulas, and symbols that she didn't even recognize.

"I know what exponential means, but I don't understand much more about this," she said and handed the mysterious stick back to the inventor genius.

"It's a slide rule," Ed said, as if that had been an explanation for everything.

"You made this up yourself. Am I right?"

The inventor genius nodded. "It's a handy thing. I have ten of them. I intend to bring this to all universities in the known world."

"But that's just fantastic!" the healer exclaimed. "You could cause a scientific revolution. I believe we are in the middle of one right now."

"If I can have a moment, I will get us right back on the proper course in a minute or two."
