Serenica's studies weren't going as well as she had hoped. She got her grades from the first courses after a tedious period of waiting, and while they were not bad, they were not perfect, either.

Her chance to shine came when she took a course on nutrition. She had time. The pirates wouldn't come back just yet, and she had plenty of material about memory diarrhea. That was the thing she would use to impress her professor.

The case of John Longlines had been a tragic one. Serenica knew people would find it hard to believe that he died of the illness, as his background was not unlike those of men from fisher villages. Even his name suggested the proximity of seas. He had been picky, though, pickier than anyone Serenica had ever met.
