บท 91: Queen of the Smoke

The dead were being subdued at an alarming pace. The smell of decay penetrated the air, strong, pungent and disgusting in Serenica's nostrils, as she was brought to the spot where Kinley was resting in her pollen dress.

"I should probably change my clothes," the witch said. "Watch that healer girl, Wheatby. Let me know you're a real man. Keep her safe, but keep her here."

An annoyed Dereyk appeared from the jungle just as the last of the corpses fell down.

"And where were you?" Wheatby asked warily.

"Trying to prevent your precious healer from escaping." Dereyk glared at his leader. "I am done being your dog. I quit."

Serenica could not believe her ears.

Dereyk looked at her, obviously trying to get her to understand something.

Serenica had no idea how to feel about Dereyk switching sides. He was quite obviously dangerous and adept in violence, but he had a bad personality. She would have a hard time explaining this newcomer to her crew.
