"You need to wake up."
The Dreamer was holding her head, staring into her eyes with a serious expression.
"I am sorry," the prince said, and it was rather obvious that he was referring to Kinley and what he had taught her. "I am sorry, but you can't give up."
"Why?" Serenica asked. "I could sleep forever if it were up to me. Why can't I do just that when nothing hurts here?"
"That's exactly why," the Dreamer said, sounding desperate. He bit his lip. He let his gaze fall down to Serenica's mouth.
A twinge of warmth passed through her.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"Things are supposed to hurt," he said flatly. "And…if you give up, I will never meet you. Ever. That pains me more than the thought of gouging out my own eyes."
"Spade," Serenica whispered. "Spade and Myorka and William. They need me."
"Everyone needs you. You are useful," the prince said. "Are you ready?"
