Once being shown to his room, the problem Samuel ran into was that the space was far larger than he felt that he needed. The bedroom was two if not three times larger than his room back with his family. The bed also far larger. The room had been furnished with what he considered an oversize dresser and wardrobe along with a nightstand, TV stand with a TV, a black recliner and a few other odd things he felt like were far too much for him.
The stuff he had brought from his parents house hardly took up any space at all and didn't take long to organize and put away. Zane had assured him that once he was a full member of the fmily they would take care his wardrobe and other needs which be politely tried to reject but the other would hear none of. He claimed that he wanted "The best for his future son-in-law.". That idea scared Samuel simply because everything he was already being offered and introduced to was rather overwhelming for him as it was such a heavy change compared to what he was used to.
Once he was done with his room, he made sure to call his parents and update them to let them know he was okay and what was going on so far.
considering it was the first day, he decided that it was better to leave out the fact that Lena didn't seem to be particularly fond of him but settled instead for saying that they're getting used to each other and had a nice conversation earlier but it was going to take time to get used to sharing the space.
His mother was thrilled to hear the news and did most of the talking while he was certain his father was listening more intently to hear for anything that could be a sign he wasn't being treated right or lying about the situation.
They talked for about an hour as Samuel lay on his new bed. More for his family sake than his own he really hopped that the arrangement was going to work out. He hoped that maybe with some time, she'd warm up to him.
"Little Chickadee." He heard what he assumed was Lena's voice followed by a firm knock on his Door. "You're supposed to come and say good night."
"Good night then?" Samuel called back uncertainly. It appeared to be the wrong response because he heard a "tsk" from the other side of the door.
"I mean come here and say good night to my face. I'm sure you were taught manners." Her attitude really made him not want to, but he knew that he'd be rude if he didn't and she wasn't allowed in his room after it was so late. muffling a sigh, he got off the bed and made his way over to the door.
Opening it up he was met by Lena who was standing with her hands on her hips looking rather impatient and annoyed. With them now both standing, he realized how short she actually was, standing maybe 5'2-5'3 compared his 5'10 height yet she somehow still held a very intimidating aura. Before he had a chance to open his mouth and speak, she'd already begun talking again, this time to scold him.
"If this is your best attempt to convince me to be with you, you're going to need to put a lot more effort in."
"I'm sorry, alright? It's my first night here and everything is a bit overwhelming for me. I'll do better tomorrow, but I need time to adjust." He sighed, feeling a bit annoyed himself.
"You better, because there's a lot of work you're going to have to do if you want to convince me that you're good enough." Lena replied.
"How about goodnight for tonight and we can try this again tomorrow." He offered, getting ready to turn and head back into his room. Before he got that far, he felt a firm grip on his upper arm that forced him to turn back around.
"Sammy, you're forgetting something important here. All good couples should give each other a goodnight kiss." He could hear the teasing tone in her voice, but it didn't stop the blush from rising to his cheeks. Before he got a chance to say anything, the hand moved off his arm and instead moved to pull his face down towards hers. "Don't worry, I won't give you a proper kiss, one on the cheek will do tonight, but tomorrow I expect something better." Lena purred as he felt her lips against his cheek.
The kiss was quick one, but enough to catch Samuel off guard even after the other pulled away.
"It isn't a good look for you to be so shell-shocked little Chickadee, you'll eventually have to get used that and more. Night." She gently patted on the cheek before she made her way into her own room not caring that he was still standing there shocked over what had happened.
I would love to hear my readers thoughts on the book thus far and if anything should be changed.
I also have a question as I'm working on further chapters- Laser tag or paintball, which do my readers think would be more fun?
