Next chapter I was going to have Catlyn and Zach having dinner at Kellah's house. Kellah's parents died when she was young so she's living with a friend of her dad. He was going to be a Half-elf. It was in this chapter that you would learn more about Lazarus. The section of my planning sheet that I wrote also included much of my early plans for 1.5. Here's what I had:
Shortly near the end of the Wizarding War, the Ministry was having a problem. Because of the war many were displaced, couldn't find work, or were suffering from PTSD. To combat this issue, the Ministry created a tunnel within a park near Diagon Alley. Magically hiding it from the muggle community, they built temporary housing under the park.
Although the Wizarding War came to an end, the populous struggled to get off their feet and the community, in fact, grew. Both the wizarding community and the Ministry of Magic was desperate for everything to be fine. This type of thinking caused the area to be largely ignored. One of the most notable people to make this area their home are Adam and Marine. Both orphans grew up on the streets and met when they were relocated to this neighborhood. Marrying, they took the last name Grim and gave birth to Kellah Grim. Marine died giving birth, leaving Adam to raise the child. This did not last long, for he died when she was young.
Kellah Grim was an early part of an uptick in the births of wizards with rare magical abilities. (Kellah holding an Aurian eye) Due to humans' natural reaction to anything not natural, a majority of these children were abandoned. Kellah felt their plight and, using her Aurian eye to find them, took orphaned or abandoned kids back to Lazarus.
In the summer of 1992, an offshoot of Deatheaters began to target these kids in an effort to gain power quickly. Kellah reported them missing, but the Ministry of Magic did nothing. It took the combined effort of the Ollivander family and half of the Diggory family (including Genine Diggory, a Auror) to take down these dark wizards.
After this incident, the Ollivanders founded an orphanage in Grim's Gate and created a joint charity fund for the community. The Diggorys mainly used their influence in the Ministry to campaign for rights for wizards with rare abilities and created resources to help them control their abilities.
Kellah that year became the first participant out of the slums to get a scholarship for Hogwarts. In the future, this area eventually became a bustling cavern, even rivaling the size of Diagon Alley. (End)
Everything after the second paragraph was changed. I was still planning on Ollivanders making a scholarship for those in Lazarus to attend Hogwarts which was how I was planning on having Kellah attend Hogwarts in book 2. During book 1.5, Kellah was 11. All of Catlyn's friends were going to be different ages because I felt that was a cool and unique idea.
Another change that I was going to have for Lazarus is that Lazarus was originally a mining operation by Muggles who found the cave. The Ministry shut it down and did some research in the area but then left it abandoned. That is when the First Wizarding War came around, and many who were now disenfranchised or displaced started calling Lazarus home.
Anyway, as they're having dinner, Genine and Amos show up. Genine tells Amos to hold back. Eventually, Catlyn and Genine agree to share information. Genine convinces Catlyn by revealing that she's an Irregular Witch. I dropped a few hints about this and intentionally made it seem like she was a Werewolf. Genine is not a Werewolf.
Here's what I put in Genine's Character sheet under the Background section:
Originally from Golden Peaks, a wizarding community in the California mountains, her boyfriend abandoned the family when she was young. This caused Genine to raise the metamorphmagus alone. And raising her was not a small feat, for her large and constant magic outbursts, as well as constant changing eye and hair color, making it difficult.
Not long after Leanne was born, Genine was working hard as an Auror to prevent Deatheaters from gaining a foothold in Golden Peaks. She was part of a large raid on a Deatheater sect trying to form.
During this time, she was cursed to become a Maledictus. She dealt with it for a few years until she met Amos. They dated, and eventually married. This caused Leanne and her to move to the United Kingdom. (End)
A Maledictus is a female individual with a blood curse that eventually turned her into a type of beast permanently. The beast she would eventually turn into is a bear. In the future, I might have made it so she was cursed before Leanne was born, but I didn't have any active plans to do so.
Catlyn reveals to Amos, Genine, Zach, Kellah, and Kellah's guardian the full truth of her existence. Her birth mother is Laichm Riddle, more commonly known as Lich. She is the sister of Voldemort who is obsessed with researching the undead. In need of a test subject, she forced a Vampire to help her conceive of Catlyn. She was quickly found to be a failure and became something Lich could use to get her aggression out on. Catlyn's early life was filled with tests and torture. This was until the Order of the Phoenix, who Babbling and Garrick were a part of, rescued her.
After Amos and Genine give Catlyn what information they have, Catlyn thinks of a trap for the Killer at the gathering of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Catlyn convinces her Father to let her do this, sending a telepathic message to convince him. This reveals that Catlyn figured out a way to use a combination of Legilimency and Occlumency to send telepathic messages. She got this idea from Backtracing. This ability costs a lot of Mana and is extremely difficult. These flaws will go away as time goes on. During book 8, she has gotten so good at telepathy that she no longer writes things to people. Well, she asks those she just met if they are ok with her using telepathy using notes but aside from that.
During the gathering of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, Catlyn will send a telepathic message to every suspect that she knows they're the Half-Breed Killer and to meet her somewhere after the party. One of the ways she convinces her father is that the killer won't know who sent the message.

Babbling goes as Garrick's date. (before this Catlyn gives Babbling the OK to begin dating her dad) Genine and Amos go as extra security. Kellah goes as Zach's date because she insisted on coming and if I made her go as Catlyn's date it would favor her too much against the other love interest of Catlyn. Kellah insists on coming because the Half-Breed Killer killed the Werewolf guard we met during "Down Under London" when getting into Lazaraus during the last chapter. She was friends with him.
Of course, the plan doesn't go perfectly. The Killer thinks Catlyn is a Half-Breed and hears about her accomplishments all night. This causes them to attack Catlyn before going to the blackmail location.
As for who the Half-Breed Killer is, I don't know. I knew I wanted to make it either a kid from the Rosier family, or from one of these families, Avery, Burke, Gaunt, Selwyn, Shafiq. Would it have been a better idea to use an already-named character? Anyway, the volume ends with a fight with the Half-Breed Killer vs. Catlyn and Kellah. The Ministry also temporarily disabled the trace on Catlyn's wand for this operation.
