บท 22: Oliver Wood | Flying Session

His smile fades into a frown when I speed past him in my broom. He wasn't expecting me to do so and was annoyed by the fact that I beat him to a thing he's supposed to be greater than me at.

"Come on, Oli! Don't frown." I remark, which made his frown deepen. He hates my nickname for him. Told me that it sounds like I'm calling a dog.

He rolls his eyes when I started laughing, ignoring my teasing calls while slowly descending to the ground. I followed him, shaking my head with a smile on my lips when he didn't look at me, and instead went ahead back to the building.

It's been three weeks since I asked Oliver to teach me how to get better at flying in brooms. Since we're in the same year and house, it was easier to have matching break times, which we use to practice.

You see, it's not like I don't know how to ride a broom. It's just that, every time I do so, I will always be overwhelmed by the fear of falling. Something Oliver helped me get rid of.

When I started practicing, Oliver will always ride his broom beside me. He will not let me out of his sight, and I am always glad to see him beside me. He made me feel secure when he looks at me attentively, making sure I won't fall off my broom.

"Can I sit beside you in dinner-" But before I can finish what I was going to say, I was interrupted by Penelope who came running towards Oliver's side.

Her hands immediately wrapped around his arm, as if they were always meant there. A decoration perfect to adorn.

"Penelope!" Oliver greeted her, a wide smile plastered on his face as Penelope smiled back at her.

I'm left alone once again, gripping the broom in my hand as I watch them disappear back inside. Another throbbing pain in my chest, as I slowly make my back inside with my head low.

What pissed me off more was that it hasn't even been a month since Penelope and Percy Weasley broke up. How can she cling to someone that fast as if nothing happened? And why to Oliver out of all the guys in Gryffindor?

"If looks could kill, Penelope might have been dead weeks ago." I let out a sigh, already expecting who to see behind me.

"Hello, Fred." I turn around, rolling my eyes upon seeing his grinning face. "Why are you here? And where's George? Aren't you guys supposed to be together pranking other students?"

He followed me as I make my way to the Great Hall. He stick to my side even when I was sitting.

"I told you, you should've asked me to teach you," Fred remarks, eyeing Oliver and Penelope who is sitting a few feet away from us.

"You know I'm a year older than you, right?" Fred shrugged as if telling me he doesn't know what I mean. "Fine. Starting tomorrow, you're teaching me. Make sure to not ditch me."

"Never!" he exclaimed, ruffling my hair before running out of the Great Hall to meet George who was waiting for him. Upon reaching the latter, both of them look in my direction before giving each other a high five.

I shake my head in amusement, looking back at where Oliver and Penelope are, only to catch Oli looking at me. Biting my lower lip and grabbing the broom I placed on the table, I decided to make my way to them, stopping in front of Oli who didn't break eye contact.

Penelope only gave me an irritated look, probably because I'm interrupting them, but I ignored her. She's not someone worth my attention.

"I talked to Fred. I agree to let him teach me." Oliver frowned, clearly not expecting what I said.

"Why? We were doing just right." he was staring at me intensely, I almost take it back, but doing that will only mean I get to watch him leave me behind to spend time with Penelope.

"The match with Slytherin is close. You need more time to focus on it and strategize, right?" I reasoned, making excuses to end the conversation because I felt like if this go on, I'll take it all back. After all, practice sessions with Oliver are always the highlight of my days.

"Isn't it the same situation with Fred? They also need to practice," he answered, standing up from his seat and facing me properly. Penelope has long forgotten.

"Fred is already a good Beater. The twins are natural at it. They need practice yes, but not as much time as you need to form strategy like you always do." I remark, trying not to sound offensive, even though he already looks so irritated.

"We were doing just fine. What else-"

"I already said yes to Fred, Oliver. It will be rude not to show up after saying I will. So, I'll go ahead first."

I felt bad for cutting him off, but I don't plan to stay any longer there and listen to what he was gonna say. 'Cause I know I'll listen to every word he will utter.

And just like that, I've been practicing with Fred for a week now. To be honest, I thought I wouldn't be able to go for a day without Oliver teaching me, but Fred is easy to get along with. He makes me laugh with his silly jokes. He's also surprisingly a good teacher.

He doesn't make me feel as secure as Oli does, but it was all great nonetheless.

"So, how are things going with Wood?" Fred asked the moment we land down. He took my broom from me, and I mutter a small thank you as we make our way back inside.

"To be honest, nothing's going on. After that day I agree with you teaching me, we haven't talked to each other again." Fred hand the broom back to me once we reached the Great Hall.

As we were about to seat, we were interrupted by a noise. Turning around, I see Penelope and Oliver arguing. Not caring about the students gathering around to witness whatever is going on.

"Seriously?! Aren't you just toying with me then?" Penelope screamed, her eyes filled with hatred.

"Toying? I didn't lead you to anything at all, Penelope. You were the one who decided everything yourself!" Oliver answered, his face calm, but his hands were clenched tightly.

"Y/N, where are you going?" Fred tried to stop me, but I was already storming toward the two before he can even stop me.

"How dare you-" I grab Penelope's hand before she can even hit Oliver. My jaw clenched tightly I feel like my teeth are about to break.

"What do you think you're doing, Clearwater?" I asked in a low tone, trying to suppress the anger boiling up inside, even though I'm confused as to why I'm feeling such emotion.

Whatever is going on, it is not my problem, yet here I am.

"Here comes the nuisance," Penelope stated with sarcastic amusement, pulling her hand away from my grab. "You. You're the reason why Oliver is acting like he didn't like me at all."

With a raised eyebrow, I turn around to look at Oli who only bites his lower lip while trying to avoid my eyes, clearly guilty.

"Do you like her?" I blurt out, too late to take it back.

"What?! No! I didn't tell her that." he answered quickly, looking alarmed as he tries to reason out.

"I'm only asking if you like her. Yes or No, Oli."

"No, Y/N. I don't," he answered, this time calmly and looking straight back at me.

"You heard that? Why are you making a fuss then?" I said, facing Penelope once again. A smirk lies underneath my lips as I try not to show the satisfaction I'm currently feeling from Oli's answer.

"That's impossible! He obviously likes me, and you're just telling him to say that because you like him."

I let out a tired sigh. Talking to Penelope like this won't get us anywhere.

"First of all, you're the one who assumed things based on what you want them to be. And if Oli doesn't like you, you can't force him to. He's not your puppet. Also, if I like him, you don't have any say in that. It's none of your business. Stop making trouble for other people just because you're bitter about your breakup with Percy!"

"You-" I didn't flinch even after seeing Penelope raises her hand, but before she can do anything, Oliver caught her hand this time.

"I'll make things clear for you Penelope. I never like you in any way you can think of. If there's something I feel for you, it's an annoyance. You always interrupt my time with, Y/N. The one I truly like."

My eyes widen as I felt Oli's hand grab mine. I stare at him, but he wasn't looking at me, more like he was avoiding my eyes. Yet I can see the tint of red in his ears.

I look around as I feel the wild thumping in my chest. Everyone is still gathered, watching the scene take place. Upon them are Fred and George who both gave me a playful grin, and that's when I realized it. Everything has been their plan this entire time.

Fred was the one keeping eye on me, while George might be the one keeping an eye on Oliver and Penelope. The main reason why I barely see them together these past few weeks!

"You guys are the worst!" Penelope shouted, storming out of the Great Hall, leaving me and Oli standing in the middle of everyone.

I felt his hand clenches mine, before deciding to pull me along out of the Great Hall. Far from everyone's gazes, who are all obviously confused.

Once we reached the open field where he and I used to practice, he let go of my hand, but this time, he pulled me into a hug. His head is next to mine.

"Did you mean what you said earlier?" he softly asked, his warm breath tickling my neck as he buries his face in it.

An action I didn't expect from him. After all, Oliver doesn't show affection at all. He's someone who would rather use all his time in Quidditch than be with someone else.

"I should be the one asking that question. I can't believe you haven't noticed at all." I playfully laugh, running my free hand on his hair, as he holds my other hand once again.

"So, you don't like Fred?" I refrain from laughing upon seeing his serious face after pulling away from the embrace.

His eyes are staring at mine, waiting for an answer.

"Why ask that?" he frowns upon seeing the twitch at the end of my lips, as I try to stop myself from laughing at how cute he looks right now even though he looks so serious.

"I asked a serious question, Y/N." he sternly stated, pulling me closer to his body once again. His face is inches away from mine, and I can feel his warm breath on my face.

"I don't like Fred in that way, Oli. He's just a friend. Why do you ask that?" I answered, seriously this time. Wrapping my arms around his neck as he put his hands on my waist.

"Because he clearly likes you, and agreeing with him to teach you made me think that you suddenly realize you like him too."

This time, I burst out laughing, not because I am making fun of him, but because I didn't know he would feel jealous.

"Fred might like me in that way, yes, but we both know it won't reach the point of feelings we have for each other now. Do you understand me? Unless you were joking about you liking me." I teased, which Oli answered with squinting eyes, before cupping my face and pulling me into a kiss.

It was surreal. I can't seem to find where to put my hands, as Oliver pulls me closer and closer to his body if that was even possible. I could already feel the warmth of his body through the fabrics of our clothes.

Finally, I wrap my arms around his neck. Warmth spreads on my cheeks when I felt a smirk on his lips against the kiss.

"So, does this mean we're together now?" He asked after pulling away from the kiss, yet not letting me go.

"Obviously, Oli." he laughs, and I did so too.

Kissing each other once again.
