Sitting in my office alone while eating lunch was nothing new. All the women in his building were way to stuck up and classy for my liking. I had no friends. I moved here when I was sixteen and disowned thank Lord, Mr. Wright Dante's father found me and was kind enough to help me onto my feet. Since then it was work work work. I like my job because I get to talk and interact even if it's business-wise. Sad right?
So when someone knocked on my door at this time, I was quite surprised. Putting down my chicken salad, I walk cautiously to the door and opened it.
"Damien?"
"Hi, Love."
What the fudge.
"What are you doing here,?" I say eyeing the brown paper bag in his hands then looking back up to his face. "How did you get in?”
"Let me in and we'll talk," he says smiling.
"No, I'm working." I half-lie. I just don't want it to get all awkward.
"During lunch?" He replies raising an eyebrow.
"Yes," I say surprisingly calmly.
"Oh please love." He barges in while I try hard not to blush at his continuous endearment.
"How did you get in here?" I ask once he's seated.
"Let me properly introduce myself. I am Damien Wright. Brother of Dante wright. Son of Mr. Wright. Co-owner of Wright industries." He explains putting his feet on my table and my mouth drops open.
Another Wright?
Great.
"So you can imagine my surprise when you said you worked here. I thought I would've noticed such a beautiful woman." I avert my eyes and blush almost immediately after the comment.
"Uh, thanks."
"I work on the ground floor though. I manage finance and structure, that's why. My brother must've been hiding you. Such a shame, but I know about you now. Hence the reason I will be eating lunch with you today."
"Oh."
"How about you sit and we can talk?" He suggests, "maybe get to know each other?"
"Oh," I reply still in a daze and he raises his eyebrows. "I mean, yeah sure okay." He chuckles and hops off my chair. He sits at the one in front of me and I sit in the office chair.
"So, if you're a Wright. Why aren't you from here. You know, New York?"
"Different mother, same father." He says nonchalantly with a shrug biting into his sandwich.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm older by a year. My mom got divorced first. A year later he's in 'love." He remarks rolling his eyes and I giggle at his tone.
"How about you?"
"Hmm?"
"Family?"
"Oh," I say looking down at my lap "I...I was disowned at sixteen so."
"Damn, may I ask why?"
"Abusive boyfriend became a bigger problem and started threatening my family so they disowned me, hoping he would leave them alone." I wasn't exactly ashamed of my situation. It happened already, why hide it?
"Did he?"
"I don't know if he did right away. But he died of a drug overdose a few years ago." it hurts so much to relieve these things but I'm stronger than that. I got through it.
"You've been through a lot."
"You're telling me." I scoff. I stabbed the salad around suddenly losing my appetite. He notices and lightens up the mood.
"Can I have your phone?"
"I'm sorry I only have one, I would give it to you but I-"
"Aspen I just want to insert my number." He states amused
"Oh right. Silly me." I give him my phone and he puts it in his number. He calls, so he can get mine and kisses my cheek.
"I will call you later."
"Okay," I say giving him a small smile.
His kiss didn't do anything. No tingles. Nothing. I didn't even feel electrified when he touched me or looked at me like how it did with Dante. I sigh. What am I doing? Comparing my boss to his brother.
I release yet another frustrated sigh and pick up some files to deliver to Mr. Wrights's office. I normally just go in so I push the door, but what lies before me was so not expected.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" I practically scream dropping the files and running back out.
I am in so much trouble I think to myself leaning against his office doors.
