บท 692: Neeker

So far as I know, no Neekers live in Achaea.

No, trust me, Neekers are as real as you or I. Not the ones that haunt ill-behaved children, but rather those that are a physical race. Twisted like goblins, tall like men, ruthless like elves, and a carnivorous diet like wolves.

They might be related by blood to the other feykind, but if so it is a connection lost so deep in antiquity that my [Lifeshaper] senses didn't find it.

They were there, on both sides of the road, close to the trees so that in the starlight their wrinkled skin could be mistaken for the bark of trees.

I let loose a long sigh. "I can see you." I said, "Come out."

And they did, all seventeen of them.

<What manner of creature is this?> asked one. <It lives, but it covers itself in death, as humans do.>
