<Hasn't asked not to be eaten.> said one.

<That's not how it works.> another reminded him.

<I'm just so hungry!> the first said.

<We all need meat.> their alpha said. <We know some of these rabbits aren't Aware.>

To me, he said, <It's going to rain tonight, you should seek shelter in the cave. The bears are cranky, but if you bring them enough nuts and berries, they'll shelter you for the night.>

Glutton sent an image and taste of dark purple berries.

<Not for us.> I sent, but the other two had picked up the flavor and were echoing it.

The alpha chuckled. <Our cubs are like that, too, once weaned off milk. Only they want meat.>

<Meat> Fearful echoed briefly, before returning to berries.

I spoke with the alpha long enough to get a vague map of smells to follow to get to the cave. <1>

In the end, we didn't head up the hill toward the cave; between the four of us, we ate everything that I could find.
