Previously on Avenging Angels
Chris calls Rose in the pretence of cleaning juice that spilled on the floor and tries to rectify the situation but Rose remains obstinate and doesn't listen to him.
TWENTY EIGHT
I dropped the tray on the last table and dusted my hand in satisfaction as I looked around the large decorated hall.
After we were done cooking, the decorator needed extra hands so we maids helped her to complete her work before the time runs out.
"This is perfect" Mrs Linda, the decorator said and smiled joyfully at the decorations.
"I agree"
The large Bladderwort castle's hall was decorated to the full brim, there were white flowers hanged on every corner and white cloths used to make beautiful patterns on the table.
Light blue clothes were spread on the table which was under a beautiful cylinder vase. The symbol of the Bladderwort Industry was on every curtain.
I had to agree, it was really beautiful. Too bad it represented all the evil and venal things of the Bladderworts. I pity the people coming to celebrate their anniversary which have built with atrocities and vices.
"Rose, Miss Helda is asking for us in the kitchen" Chloe called and we left to the kitchen together.
We quickly went and stood in the line that girls were standing on.
"Today is a very special day and I want each and every one of you to be in your proper behavior. There shall be no chitchatting while on duty nor will you in any way offend any of the guests" Her gaze lingered longer on me after her speech and I gave her a chaste smile.
"Violet and Chloe, you are in charge of drinks and water. Rosaline and Sarah, you will be in charge of taking the coats of the guests and the empty dishes while Francesca, Helen and Georgina, you are in charge of food. The three of us will be supervising. Now go put on your special outfits for today before the guests arrive" She clapped her hands and we scrambled out of the room to get changed out of our smelly and dirty uniform.
We were all putting on white gowns and flowery hairbands with the number 25 imprinted on our back. The outfit is quite tacky but we still put it on nevertheless.
We went to our assigned position after putting on our clothes. Sarah and I were at each side of the door, waiting for the guests to come in so we could take their coats.
The DJ began playing a light tone as guests started to pile inside the hall and get seated on the seats assigned to different industries.
"Rosaline" I heard Mrs Hatchman calling and left to the hall.
"Yes, ma'am"
"Please help to get the carton on the upper stall, there are tissue papers inside"
"OK"
I walked down the hall to the kitchen which was empty except for the delicious meals spread out on the counter.
I moved to the stall and located the carton in which tissues was written on it. I stood on my tiptoe because it was at the top closet.
As I tried to pull the carton, I see a hand which stretched with ease and brought it down. I turned around to see Travis with a dimpled smile on his face.
"You" I breathed out in slight disappointment.
"Were you expecting someone else?" he raised his eyebrows.
"No. Of course not. Thank you"
"it's fine. I just came in to get food for the guys when I saw you. Are you alright, though? You look quite dull" he moved further to get a glance of me.
"I am fine. Just the work today was much, that's all" I let out a very convincing smile.
"You look much better that way" he poked my cheek and I swat his hand as I chuckled.
"May I ask what the both of you are doing here when you are supposed to be working?"
Ha, the dork stepped in as his enraged glare flied between Travis and I.
"I was just helping her get the box down, sir" Travis answered.
"Oh, such a gentleman, aren't you?" the sinister smile he gave provoked me to give him a tight slap but I controlled myself.
"It's my duty, sir"
"What are you still doing here?" Chris asked.
"Sir?"
"You've done your duty. You helped her put the box so now leave" he ordered and Travis confused face should have made me burst into laughter but I didn't.
"O....k. Take care of yourself, Thorne" he put his hand on my shoulder and ruffled my hair and Chris's afflicting gaze remained on his hand as though he wanted to break off Travis's hand.
I was about to follow Travis out when Chris held back. I pushed his hand from my arm, put the box down and crossed my hands.
"What?" I stated with irritation.
"What were both of you doing inside here all alone?" he asked in a low tone as though he is trying to control himself from yelling at me.
"I believe that's not of your business, sir" I gritted and took the box to leave when he said.
"Don't make me do what I don't want to, Rosa"
"I don't care about what you do or not" I said and left the kitchen.
"Chloe, please give this to Mrs Hatchman" I handed the box to her.
"Are you OK?" she asked in concern.
"I am fine. Just need some fresh air" I left the hall and went upstairs, about to go to the veranda when I heard my name being called again.
"Give me a break!" I muttered and turned around to see Regina at her roon's threshold.
"What are you doing standing over there? Get in here!"
I walked reluctantly to her bedroom and she closed the door behind us.
"As my personal maid, you are supposed to help me get ready for a day as big as this but you are slacking and walking up and down with nothing to do" she blabbed as she stood in front of her mirror while staring at her rolled hair and white powdered face.
The robe she was wearing was blue, silk and flowing on the ground.
"Don't just stand there and look, help me choose an outfit for tonight" she pointed at the dresses scattered everywhere on her bed and I moved to the bed with a heavy sigh.
The first gown that captures one's attention is a blue, sleeveless satin gown which has a neckline filled with sparkling beads, the gown is straight and completely to the point and doesn't have any extravagant designs but still it was the most beautiful dress I have ever laid eyes on.
I use my hands to feel the soft material as my eyes couldn't go off it.
"Do you like it?" I jump a little from the shock her voice brought and removed my hands from the dress.
"It's very pretty, ma'am. It will look beautiful on you"
"Nah, it isn't really my style. You can take it if you want" she waved her hands.
"What? How can I wear such a dress? Thank you but I can't accept it" I bowed my head.
"No, seriously, I don't like it but you seem to love it so you can take it" she thrusted the dress on my hands.
"OK, thank you" I stared at the dress lovingly and wondered where or when I would be able to wear it.
"Enough with that. Help me choose from either this or this" she brought out two dresses and held it in front of me to choose.
"This one" I pointed my hand at the one on the left. It is a maroon, backless fitting gown. It has ropes at the back to lace and it is really an elegant style.
"Nice choice. Help me put it on quick"
I helped her in the dress and loosed the pins on her hair to put it in an elegant bun with a few loose strands to fall on her face.
She applied makeup expertly on her face with maroon shade of lipstick. When she was finally done, she stood up and twirled in front of the mirror with a childish giggle on her lips.
"How do I look?" she asked as she twirled again.
"You look beautiful, ma'am" that should have been the most honest statement I said to Regina since we met. She did look beautiful.
"I know"
"Are you going to the party like that?" she gestured to my outfit with disgust written on her face.
"Yes. Is there a problem?" my left eye twitched.
"Of course it's a problem. You are Regina Bladderwort's personal maid. There is no way you are going to the party in that foolishly tacky outfit of yours"
What a nice way to put in. I already knew the outfit was tacky and she just had to prove it.
"Go change into that dress" she crossed her arms.
"Exc-"
"No buts or if, I said go change and that's final" she insisted.
I stomped my feet and went to the bathroom to change. I looked in the mirror and saw my reflection on the dress. The dress fits perfectly and accentuated all the visible and invisible curves of mine.
Still hesitant, I stepped out of the bathroom and Regina looked up from her phone.
"Awwww! That's so beautiful. Now all you need is your makeup and you are ready to party" she clapped her hands maniacally and dragged me over to the vanity table.
She didn't listen to any of my protests and kept on applying different products on my face. When she was finally done, she pushed the mirror towards me with a wide smile on her face.
I have applied makeup before so I knew the way I look with makeup but the way her hand felt as though she was applying magic on my face was phenomenal.
I knew the person in the mirror is me but still I looked very different from my normal sassy self. I looked like those cheesy Disney Princesses but I was quite pretty.
"Perfect" she beamed and dragged me up from the chair.
"Wait a minute, let me get my heels" she said as I stepped out of the room and waited for her by the door.
"Where on earth do you think you are going, dressed like that?" Miss Helda's voice rang over the empty hall and goosebumps went up my bare arms from the shock I got.
"Ma'am, I-"
"I am the one who ordered her to dress like that, Old Helda. I can't risk being seen with someone dressed so tacky" Regina interrupted.
"Oh, as you wish, Miss" Miss Helda bowed and left after giving me a stern look.
"Don't mind that old hag, let's go have fun" she dragged me once again, down the stairs and the booming music could be heard.
As soon as I stepped into the hall, a lot of eyes were on us but I only felt one pair of blue eyes. I didn't hesitate to meet his eyes and it was like the whole world froze and it was just us.
His piercing orbs stroke my soul as neither of us dared to release the intense gaze.
