บท 160: Hide and seek (1)
He grits his teeth and dodges with abnormal speed once again. The same crack as before sounds but this time his leg caves in all of a sudden and cleanly snaps in two.
Can legs do that?
No, looking at the chips of wood lying around the leg must be fake! It's an imposter!
The old man's face is so heavily frowning that I can barely make out his features beneath all those creases. He must worry a lot. Fear not old man, I'll soothe your worries. With another punch!
Surrounded by the other attacking golems, the old man now needs to also face me. My punch flies at him and I don't think that he'll be able to do that speed-moving thing again. This time I'll hit him.
Looking at my punch, the old man swings his iron cane and meets my fist head-on. However, before his cane hits me, five canes made of energy appear and clash with my fist first. The continuous impact begins to really hurt so I immediately switch to shatter punch.
My fist explodes and the energy canes, as well as the real cane, are pushed away. The old man loses his balance for a moment and gets punched by one of the other golems.
"Ha, at least this will lower your fighting strength enough to allow the others to safely escape. Damn golem."
I can't smile with my golem face but if I could do so, I would. I hold my arm to the ground and the broken pieces of my fist begin to roll towards it, slowly merging back together.
The old man watches but is kept busy by the other golems. I'm sure he would try to attack me while I am reassembling if he got the opportunity. Alas, it is too late.
I stand back up straight and rejoin the fight. The old man is already wounded and seems a bit tired. Dodging and block all those punches becomes increasingly harder for him.
Despite that, he attaches the most importance to avoiding my attacks. One more shatter punch and he would surely be done for good but he won't let me.
Finally, he succumbs after a few more golems manage to land a hit every now and then. He coughs up blood and keels over. Victory for the golems.
But on my map, I still see some red dots scurrying around. Playing hide and seek it is. The red dot where Torben is supposed to be has disappeared, likely he fell prey to the golems.
I begin to walk towards the closest red dot while slowing my steps to avoid making any loud noises. This red dot is hiding in a room in a clay hut.
<That's not a hut. It's a kiln used to burn clay. Everything in this dungeon is clay-oriented. The bricks are burnt clay, you are clay golems and that kiln is how you are supposedly made.>
Wouldn't we be pottery golems then? That's what you get after burning clay.
<Leave your innocent logic where it is. Monster names aren't accurate and that's that.>
Okay.
I creep up on the kiln carefully until I can hear the short breaths of whoever is hiding inside. That hole is very small, did they crawl inside?
"It's someone out there?"
It's the big sister! No, this isn't a big sister, it's an evil witch!
Incensed at the vile witch hiding inside the kiln I start to punch the kiln. Will she come out or get buried inside I wonder. Let's see.
"Aghhh. What are you doing? Don't make this thing collapse! I surrender!"
Seeing that the kiln is about to collapse I halt my furious punching for a moment and see what she will do. After a few seconds pass she tries to exit the kiln.
As I thought, the opening is so narrow that she has to crawl out while pressing her body completely against the ground. Unexpectedly the first thing that comes out through the opening isn't her head. She's crawling out backward with her shoes first.
Seeing her rather perky bottom slide through the opening, I remember what Navi did to me back in my room. This is an evil witch too so doing the same thing to her would be my revenge, right?
<Monica, you have a job here. Stop playing around and do your work.>
Before Navi can say anything more I slap the bottom right before me with an open hand. As a golem, I barely feel anything except the fact that I'm making contact with some elastic object. I do however hear the resounding slap and the lady's ensuing screams.
"I said I surrendered and you still hit me! Why did you hit me in that place? If you wanted a reward you could have just said so and I'd do it with you to show my gratitude."
What is she talking about? And what is this it she wants to do with me? Is this some secret she wants to tell me?
<To my understanding she believes you to be a fellow adventurer trying to take advantage of her. Golems in this dungeon don't tend to have the intelligence necessary to act like you. The it she is referring to is a general roundabout way to avoid saying adult things. In conclusion, she has completely misunderstood what is going on and you should just finish it.>
I bring my open palm down again.
"Again? I already said that I'd do it with you once I'm out."
I do it again. This is fun!
<Oh, Monica. Spanking has a different meaning when done to an adult.>
"You really won't let me come out? Is this how you prefer to do things. I don't want to seem ungrateful but I'm not into this kind of play. Can we do something else?"
I disregard her request and slap her again. This time she does not yell out. Instead, a weird sound comes from her. Something about this sound makes me uncomfortable.
<I told you. That is called a moan, by the way, it means she likes what you are doing.>
I begin to furiously punch the kiln and make it collapse onto this evil witch. Monica doesn't like this game anymore. It makes me uncomfortable.
<You are such a child. Literally.>
