Navi, how does this blood edge thing work?

Blood manipulation is a very broad skill that mainly lays the foundation for controlling blood to shape individual spells. Blood edge is a specific spell that was used by the founder of blood magic to the extent that it became a part of it.>
Can I have that in simpler terms?
<Your efficiency at casting spells is so bad that it hurts to watch you. All the parameters you have to determine using solely your imagination and perhaps an incantation waste a lot of power. The blood edge skill already has set parameters for everything and all you have to do is modify a few of them. Simply, you are exchanging flexibility for a big boost in power. Killing that crimson bear should be possible if you use that skill.>

I chose to ignore Navi since I clearly lost that one and concentrate on the battle. I approach one of the groups of soldiers and wait until no wannabe goblins or plant ladies are in the way.
"Blood edge!"
I shout the skill name and think of how I want to use it to attack the soldiers before me. What does an edge look like? I try to form a mental image but the word edge doesn't give me much to go on.
Is it like an arrowhead?
However, as Navi said, my mental image seems superfluous for the skill to work. Blood from the ground floats up at an incredible speed and forms a three-meter-long crescent blade that is then launched horizontally at the soldiers.
"Brace for impact! Shields up!"
The soldiers don't panic too much and immediately huddle up to create a solid shield wall. Every individual soldier sends out between one and three energy shields to form another barrier before them.
The crescent blade hits the barrier made from energy shields and the energy clashes with the blood. The barrier cracks and the crescent blade's power is used up. All the blood contained in the blade was vaporized during the clash.
Unwilling to see them get away unharmed I launch another blood edge at them. They once again answer by sending out their energy shields to form a barrier but I can tell that some of the soldiers weren't able to react in time.
The barrier is broken before all the blood is vaporized and the blade continues on its way until it hits the soldiers' real shields. The blow knocks them back but their shields remain intact.
<I should warn you. The way you use that skill you will only be able to use it one more time. Your current mp can't sustain such a large blade.>
How do I make it smaller?
<Think of it as smaller and target only one of the soldiers. If you target a group the skill will automatically try to set the parameters to the dimensions needed to hit them all or as many as it can sustain.>
Great, as if a smaller blade can get through their combined energy shield wall. I try to target only the soldier in the middle of the frontline and indeed the crescent blade becomes much smaller.
Thank the gods that I only have to stall those soldiers. With me here they need to constantly be on guard in case I launch another large version of the blood edge. They don't know where my limits are.
Being on guards against me compromises most of their mobility and offensive means. The entire group is being kept in check by me.
It would be best if I can just keep this stalemate until the battle ends but things never work out that easily.
"We've got a snake with a powerful offensive spell here. Come over so we can crush it from both sides!"
The soldier that seems to be in charge of this group shouts and I can hear the shuffling of steps and clanking of armor behind me. Sounds like another group of soldiers is making their way over. If I get caught in a pincer attack I will surely die and waste the time I need to respawn.
Having little choice but to attack I turn around and launch another large blood edge at the new group before darting away from where I was before.
As I expected the moment they see that I launch my skill at the other group the soldiers from the first group charge and send a dozen energy swords my way.
Since I was prepared for the attack I manage to dodge all the energy swords but I know my death is only a matter of time at this point.
A javelin flies at the leader of the first group of soldiers but he effortlessly blocks it using three energy shields to take all force out of the projectile. Guy charges over with a group of wannabe goblins that actually carry equipment.
Did he truly manage to teach them how to use weapons? I'm sure those wannabe goblins weren't using weapons before nor were they picking them up from fallen enemies.
The group of armed wannabe goblins crashes into the shields of the soldiers and seizes hold of their attention. I turn to the second group and see that they are being entangled by some vines.
The dryads must have used the lapse of attention while the soldiers blocked by blood edge to strike.
The vines aren't hitting the soldiers but at least they restrained them long enough for me to catch a breather. Had those soldiers reached me while my attention had been on the first group I would be dead now.
Seeing that the soldiers are quickly cutting themselves free from the vines I launch a small blood edge at the one who is paying the least attention. His colleague manages to send a single energy shield to intercept the skill but that's not enough. The blood edge's power only decreases a bit before slamming into the soldier's back.
