บท 58: Chapter Fifty Eight.
It was half past seven when Lucas came home from the office. He couldn't make it early due to a last minute meeting. When he got in, Zawadi and her brother Amani were seated in the living room, waiting for him.
"Hi, cupcake " he greeted Zawadi with a kiss on the lips.
"Hi, honey. You are home"
"Amani" Lucas greeted curtly.
"Good evening Mr Steele " Amani said politely earning him a small smile and a nod.
"You can call me Lucas" he simply said.
"I am sorry for allowing him to come without your permission, it's just... " Zawadi started before she was cut short by Lucas.
"Nonsense, this is as much my house as it is yours. You can bring in whoever you want " he said holding her close.
"Amani, what really happened?" he asked turning to Amani.
"My mother and I got into an argument and I took Zawadi's side so she got mad at me and threw me out. " Amani explained simply
"Really? Just like that? " Lucas asked raising an eyebrow at Amani.
Amani took a deep breath, swallowed audibly before speaking "I may or may not have called her a murderer"
"What? Why would you do that? She is still your mother, she deserves some respect and... "
"Respect " Amani said with a scoff.
"It's okay, you can stay for as long as you wish " Lucas intervened.
"Okay" Amani said, his mind barely above q whisper.
After dinner, Lucas and Zawadi sat down to discuss the evidence they had. Zawadi took out the file she had gotten from her father's office and showed it to. Lucas.
"In there is evidence of every illegal transaction that goes on in that office. This itself is enough to ruin them both. They will surely pay, in one way or another" Zawadi said.
"They surely will. They Will be so shocked tomorrow in court .First we have to find a way to present our case before the judge since this is a new case."
Once they had reviewed the evidence they had, Zawadi , Lucas and Amani had their dinner together. After which Amani went to bed while Zawadi and Lucas went to their rooms
The next morning they were at their lawyers office as early as right am. They showed all the evidence to their lawyer . Once done, Lucas proceeded to the office while Zawadi went to meet the wedding planner.
"Good morning, soon to be Mrs. Steele. How are you today " the wedding planner greeted.
"Good morning. I am fine. Hope about you" she said politely.
"I am good. Let's get to work shall we" the wedding planner said.
And so that's exactly what they did, after about an hour, Zawadi hadn't decided on the color and theme of the wedding. All that was left was to get Lucas's approval.
A week had passed after Zawadi and Lucas had presented their case. They were currently seated in court for the first hearing.
With the evidence they had provided, Charlie was stripped of his job and fined enough to drain his accounts. At the end of the day, victory was theirs.
Zawadi spent the day finalising the wedding decorations . She made sure that everything was as it should be. However there were some last minute hitches and every time they would pop up she would become frustrated.
At the end if the day everything was fine so she was able to go back home.
When she got home, Lucas was already there, making dinner .Much to her dismay.
"Welcome home soon to be Mrs Steele " he said as he laid a kiss on her forehead.
"You're home early" she commented, a smile appearing on her face.
"I had to. My soon to be wife is so hardworking and I just wanted to do something nice for her."
"How nice if you Actually, this soon to be wife of yours wanted to tell you that she will be sleeping over at John's house since the wedding is tomorrow " She said.
"John, why John's place. can't you stay somewhere else? I don't like that guy. " Lucas complained
"John is literally the only friend I have. Come on. You only don't like him because he is hot and you think I like him" she said with a cheeky smile.
"How am I supposed to not think you like him when you address him as hot" Lucas said with a pout earning a chuckle from Zawadi.
"He is gay. I should be the worried one here because he thinks you are and I quote, dreamy and sexy" Zawadi argued.
"I mean he is not wrong " he commented with a smirk.
"I knew you'd be conceited " she said as they sat down to eat.
Despite all that had happened with her family Zawadi realised that she was right where she wanted to be. Where she was wanted. She learned that home is not a place but it's those around you who make it home.
That night after dinner she had a long chat with Lucas before she went to John's house in anticipation of the next day.
"So you mean they caused the death of you unborn child? " John asked for the hundredth time after listening to Zawadi's story.
"Yeah, for the hundredth time" She answered rolling her eyes.
"Wow, I can't believe that your own family did that to you. I can only imagine. I guess we both have family troubles" he said with a heavy sigh.
"Oh John. What happened? " Zawadi inquired, her Voice later with sorrow for her friend.
"They rejected me. They said I am an abomination because I am gay. They said the day I stop that nonsense I can go home. You don't know how much it hurt to hear them call me a mistake " he said tears streaming down his face.
"It's okay John. You know I am always here for you. They are the ones who don't deserve you" She cooed as she hugged him, hoping to lessen his pain.
