"The serpent patriarch?!" Emery's mind reeled. The title was one reserved for the serpent supreme, the figure he believed to be orchestrating all the chaos. The hydra before him, a monstrous manifestation, was presumably the patriarch's transformed state.

Was the beast itself speaking to him? And if so, why was it still attacking him?

While dodging the rampaging hydra, Emery's thoughts raced. "What the hell do you want? What do you mean by 'our hope'?" he shouted, frustration mingling with confusion.
