บท 13: K.O. (x2)
Trey smiled and rubbed his hands together, "Okay, sooo ladies first?"
Souna sighed and shook her head "It's true I'm going to go first but that is only because I'm on the white side, in chess that is the side that starts the game."
He scratched his head and made it look like he didn't already know it. Souna gave him a look that told him that she didn't quite buy that he didn't know. The fact that she had taken the white side which in theory had a slight advantage just further proved it, but he still had more moves that he could play to eat at her defenses.
She started by moving her pawn from C-2 to C-3.
Trey pretended to take a few seconds to think before he moved his pawn from H-7 to H-6.
Souna's almost immediately moved another pawn from D-2 to D-3.
He took a much shorter time pretending to think before he moved H-6 to H-4.
As soon as he made that move Souna shook her head "You can't do that"
Trey looked at her confused "You sure? If I remember correctly pawns can move two spaces forward. Oh, and they can move one space diagonally if there is an enemy piece that I can take."
She nodded and pointed at the pawn he had just moved "The thing about the pawn is that they can only move two spaces on the first turn after that they are only allowed to move one space forward. That is unless you promote it into another piece, after that it'll turn into the piece you choose and move the number of spaces that piece could move."
He listened carefully and pretended to learn something new, he then moved the piece back to the spot he got it from and moved another pawn.
Souna kept moving her pawn at D forward for a few turns but after seeing that he didn't bite she moved her knight from B-1 to D-2.
Trey tried to leak out some fake facial expressions and moved his knight at G-1 to F-6. "I forgot how cool the knights are with the ability to skip pieces."
She just gave him a short nod and moved her piece.
He sighed and turned around to look at the Tsubaki who was looking at the board. "Is she always like this during a game? Like I might not be an expert on all this but I've played checkers before with my friends and we would have a good time."
Tsubaki looked at him and then at the hand he was using to point at Souna and she nodded and returned to looking at the board. He sighed and moved one of his pieces.
Throughout the game he made moves that seemed random but they all had a purpose, he just made sure to never make it obvious by moving around the board and having multiple traps. Trey also used the time he thought of making a move when it was his turn to trick her. This made it look like a lot of the time he was just improvising after a plan of his had failed.
In the end at both sides of the table there were pieces, there were more black pieces out than white but the result was inevitable.
"And with that Checkmate," said Trey with a wide smile on his face.
Souna and Tsubaki looked at the board with a look of shock on their faces. Meanwhile, Trey brought out his phone and looked at the time, "Oh crap, we played for about an hour."
When they heard him both heads turned and looked at him with a mixture of surprise and anger.
Trey sighed as he thought, 'Why do these two have to be so competitive it's as if their life had just been ruined or something."
He stood up and stretched "Don't be sore losers, we had a deal and I won so I'm counting on this whole incident to be forgotten. Also, what does your principle even do in this school, I mean isn't this a talk I was supposed to have with whoever runs this place? Anyway don't take it so hard it's just a game after all and you didn't even lose anything. Umm, so now that it's all settled I'll be excusing myself."
"Wait"
He turned around and found the School president standing up with her chair laying on the ground. "You need something else?"
She nodded and her expression turned serious "You lied didn't you? You've played before"
Trey shook his head "Like I said I've never personally played, I've seen videos of others playing though. To be honest until recently I've never been interested in learning it because of all the rules and moves you have to keep in mind. I did, however, exaggerate the fact that I didn't know certain things but like they say in love and war everything is fair. The moment we started the game we entered the war haha. Anyway, I don't feel too bad because you didn't go all that easy on me, you even took the side with the advantage."
Souna seemed to be looking into his eyes to see if he was lying and after a few seconds she nodded "A deal is a deal, don't worry about being punished in school because of the video. I would like another round though this time just for fun, I want to see if I can beat you if I get more serious."
He looked at her and Tsubaki and how serious they seemed to be about the matter, "What's up with girls in this world? Why find the fact that they lost a game so serious."
Trey thought about it for a bit and nodded "Okay then if it really means that much to you then let's play again this time without tricks."
They both sat down and began to play, this time Tsubaki brought both of them some tea. After a long game the result stayed the same, he was once more the winner. He was about to leave but he was stopped again.
He agreed to one last game but in his mind, he had already chosen to lose, 'These girls don't seem to want to give up till they win. I could just leave but if this is an opportunity to smooth things out with them then I might as well take it."
Since he wasn't trying as hard this round his attention began to wander as he looked around the room. Something in one of the shelves near the ground caught his attention, there was a stack of paper and on a page, at the very top, there seemed to be a circle like the one Issie used to summon Rias.
Trey quickly looked away and back at the game while he began to sort his thoughts out, "Could she have gotten that seal from Rias? .... No based on the color of the paper the whole stack is also the same. Rias has her own little lair so there would be no reason to have Souna store her summoning circles. Does that mean that Souna is actually a devil and a high ranking one that she can have her own thing? That could explain why she seemed so sure the school wouldn't do anything when she lost. Why wouldn't she, all she has to do is mind control them. Wait so does that mean me winning against her offended her in some way? After all, they use chess pieces to identify their members."
"Checkmate"
He looked at how her rook killed his king, he sighed and pretended to be sad.
Tsubaki had a slight smile on her face but Souna's kept that serious expression that she had while they were playing. She was about to say something but the bell rang and cut her off. He looked at the time and was surprised to see that it was time for his 2-hour lunch break.
He quickly began to get out of her office and looked back only when he was at the door "Umm I have something planned with a club I wanted to check out and I don't wanna be late. Could you send a note to my teacher behind why I missed class? Thanks bye."
When he was on the first floor he finally let out a relieved sigh "Man there is danger anywhere I go in this place. What's next a teacher that's also a devil?"
He began to walk around the campus and soon came up to a group of 3 teenagers. In the middle, there was a brown-haired teenager who began running towards him as soon as he saw him.
"Oh fuck me"
Trey pretended to remember something and he was turned around and began walking back. It didn't take long for Issie to catch up to him. "Hey Trey, wait up man. I have something to tell you that you won't believe."
He was surprised by the dude's tone so he turned around and pretended like everything was the same as always, "Oh Issie how are you?"
Issie scratched his head and laughed "Better than ever and soon you will feel the same haha, it turns out that we will be family very soon."
Trey was thought he heard wrong, "Huh?"
Issie laughed and patted him in the back, "Do you remember about my girlfriend that I mentioned the day I took you to see the kendo club."
Trey nodded still unsure of where this was going.
"Well, today in class I was shown a video where you danced with someone that looked just like her. I called her to see what was going on and you won't believe what she said, turns out that she actually has a twin sister. She said that after our date this Sunday we could have a double date so we could all meet each other, doesn't that sound great?"
'Ouch, you poor soul, if only you knew that she doesn't expect you to be alive for that long.'
"That sounds interesting man, can't wait haha. So what are you three doing? Do you think I could hang out with the three of you? I have nothing to do at the moment."
The group of three agreed and that's how they spent lunch. Trey attended the rest of his classes and soon the day was over. He got an idea of what he missed from Katase and Murayama after he stayed after school for a few minutes.
When he was headed home he found Raynare wearing his gift as she waited for him near the bridge. When he saw her he smiled and made his way to her "Hey Yuma, I'm sorry I didn't know that someone was recording. Did you get in trouble with your school?"
She smiled back and shook her head "Don't worry, my school is girls only and they are pretty understanding so all I got was a warning and many curious people asking me about our date."
He pretended to be relieved for a second but then he turned serious "Issie told me that you said I went on a date with your twin. Is it true? Wait what the hell am I saying course it's not so how the hell do you plan to explain it to him when he asks to see her."
She sighed and scratched her head "That was what I came up with when he suddenly asked me. It gives me enough time to break up with him slowly. We have a date on Sunday and I'll slowly give him the news that I found the person I love. Soon it'll be like he never existed and we can be happy together."
'Never existed huh"
He grabbed her hand and slowly brought her to him in a hug "It makes me happy to hear that, but do you really mean it? Even after I showed that much violence and enjoyed it when I made them pay?"
She slowly pushed him away and got something out of her bag, when he looked at it he found that it was a large black feather attached to a white string creating a necklace. "Just like the one you gave me, I want it to show that I will be with you no matter what."
'Don't tell me this is one of hers. If she actually plucked one of herself then that means the plan is working."
He quickly took it and tied it to his neck, "Thanks, Yuma. Now I wish that I could give you a bigger feather since this one is a lot bigger than the one I gave you."
She gave him a wide smiled "Don't worry about that silly" suddenly she moved forward and gave him a killing blow.
He looked at her in surprise as she closed her eyes and kissed him, he thought that the kiss was going to be a simple lip touching matter but suddenly her tongue slipped in. He struggled to figure out exactly what he felt all he knew was that it was a feeling that if he wasn't careful he might get addicted to. After an unknown amount of time, she finally began pulling back giving life to a small thread of saliva that still connected both of them.
'Come on Alex get your shit together man, don't forget that she's a killer. Wait the fuck, my first kiss was taken by a hot fallen angel killer. I don't know whether I should be happy or scared, is this like a goodbye, RIP type of kiss?'
His mental state was all over the place but on the outside, he just calmly smiled and brought her closer and kissed her forehead. "You do know that you have to take responsibility for taking my first kiss don't you."
They both looked at each other and began laughing loudly.
After talking for a bit more they said bye to each other and they began heading home. When she seemed to be long gone a green screen popped up.
