Watching Wyatt toss the Vytra off the entrance of the cavern had been a sight unlike any other. He was truthfully using all the skills that had been hammered into his flesh, and bones by that crazy vampire, but something change once the Vytra pack was pushed away from the cavern entrance. None were within the reach of my whip or any other short range weapons for that matter. The smell of rain, and blood made the air feel heavy in our lungs, but that wasn't what made us all go silent. Wyatt had stopped hacking, and slicing as he, and the pack observed each other silently.
I didn't know what was more disturbing. The absolute stillness, or the complete silence as if the whole world was holding it's breath. I knew we only needed one more push to get the rest of the pack to flee, but I'd seen Wyatt go still like that before. I knew what was going to happen next would be unlike anything any of the merchants here had ever seen. I could practically hear the muscles in the merchant next to me as he thought about stepping forward.
I grabbed his cloak.
"Don't," I warned in a quiet whisper.
He looked at me angrily. He wanted this to end so they could rest, but he couldn't seem to sense the danger of what was about to happen.
"They're already dead," My voice was so low I knew it wouldn't carry, but in this absolute silence I knew that he would still hear me.
I kept my eyes on Wyatt the whole time. I knew if I blinked I would miss the carnage that was to come. I saw Wyatt's hands loosen just enough to lose grip on his blades about the same time the alpha stepped forward. Then Wyatt was simply gone, and the Vytra all had holes punched into their chests. Dread filled the merchants around me, but no one dared to move as the faint clink of the blades hitting the rocks on the road reached our ears.
One movement drew our attention to the furthest Vytra as Wyatt flicked his wrist. Spraying the blood from his hands all over the ground near him. The calm way he walked back to his blades was far too slow compared to what he'd just done. To the point that it actually felt wrong to be seeing something like this. The beasts he'd just been struggling with were now dead in less then a blink of the eye.
Many would assume he was just holding back but they would be wrong. Despite everything that I thought of dragons. They were in fact cold blooded creatures that did not have fire running through their veins. They're natural heat was circulated with mana just to allow them to move well, but they could not express their full strength without taking the time to warm up. In other words.
The longer you fought a dragon the more deadly they became. Two things happened once a dragon was properly warmed up. All the mana that natural circulated to keep them from falling into a deep slumber due to the cold around them circulated inward. Supporting every single muscle. Pushing them to the absolute peak of what they were capable of.
The second was absolute awareness. Not spatial awareness or elemental awareness. No. This was something else entirely. As if the elements they commanded rushed into their bodies.
Giving them another unbelievable boost. Allowing them to double or even triple their combat ability. Letty was the only one I'd seen draw him into a fight long enough to push him into this state repeatedly. After he sheathed his weapons he turned his attention to the cavern. An unnaturally big smile on his face.
That smile sent a tremor through all those who had seen what he'd just done. Blood dripped from his numerous wounds as he walked right past us to the back of the cavern, and leaned against the wall. Passing out from exhaustion while still leaned against the wall. There were drawbacks to exerting that much strength in a single moment. His muscles wouldn't like him for a few hours once he woke up, and he might sleep longer then usual tonight, but that was all I saw as far as side affects went.
I'd seen him create the same boost of power artificially a few times now as well, but the effect of reaching that state naturally was far more potent. I realized that all the elves there were now staring at me.
"You can see why I wasn't willing to part with him," I walked to the back of the cavern, and tossed my pack next to Wyatt's feet with more calm then I was actually feeling.
Vytras weren't the most powerful beasts on the elven planet, but they weren't anywhere near the weakest. Individually they were probably middle of the rankings. The thing that made them more dangerous was their tendency to run in a pack. One mid range individual could be fought, and beaten easily. A whole pack of them on the other hand.
Might as well dig your grave if you didn't have enough people to face a pack. Maybe even kill yourself before they could get ahold of you. Wyatt had just killed the vast majority of a pack single handed, and with his bare hands. Sure his fingers were visibly damaged, and probably broken, but in an hour maybe two they'd only be bruised. By the time the sun set tomorrow he would look as if he'd never gotten into the fight in the first place.
Word of our little operation would explode after this. A human slave capable of killing eight Vytras with his bare hands in a single moment. Yeah, we'd become famous rather quickly. I mentally prepared myself to blame all of his success on his nonexistent ability, and laid down on my back as the rain dumped outside. I glanced over to Wyatt glad that I'd recognized that state of his before ordering him to do anything.
