It was midnight when Doxia returned to the cantonment at the beginning of the village. They had mended a few buildings and had settled for many years.
A nineteen years old boy was peering into the dark.
"Hey, can you see this?" he asked the other boy who was snoozing.
He didn't bother to look at what his counterpart pointed to it. He sighed and took his eyes off the lazy one. The coming light was as if a star was falling. He blinked and rubbed his eyes a few times, as he got a better view of the golden bird. He jumped down the watch wall and rushed to Doxia's place, which was close to the road. He was gasping when he halted and knocked on the door. Yet he was shocked and couldn't believe his eyes.
For a moment doubted maybe, it wasn't real because he was too sleepy or exhausted. Doxia was up and swiftly opened the door. Some other men woke up to see if it were an attack.
"Bares? What happened to you?" Doxia asked, gazing at his pale face.
