Using the smokescreen from Mew's attack to escape, they were able to return to the magma chamber from before. Mew had attempted to teleport further away, yet failed. The plate in Ares's hand pulsated as if it were alive, absorbing the energy Mew radiated with an insatiable appetite.
Mew glared at the plate, blasting it with a thunderbolt in irritation. It didn't react at all, the lightning disappearing as soon as it made contact. Mew huffed in anger, yet she sagged down in surprise on Ares's shoulder, feeling her energy being syphoned from her.
Her energy was leaving her so rapidly, it became hard to even stay afloat.
Seeing the severity of her situation first hand, Ares called Mew back to her pokeball, even as she mewed loudly in indignation.
Now that she was called back, the plate settled down, only responding in fluctuating energy waves at Ares's touch.
Putting the strange plate away in one of his pockets, Ares looked around.
Now that almost all of his pokemon were injured and unable to battle, Ares was on his own to find a way out of here. The way he had come was unusable, as it was far above him. From the tunnel Mewtwo had made, he could hear many echoing voices, soft and in the distance, but surely there.
He needed to hurry and move.
Running towards the magma lake, Ares spotted a cave a bit further to the side. It was obscure, hidden behind a flowing waterfall of magma, but it should suffice for now. If needed, he would destroy the entrance as soon as he got in.
Enhancing his strenght with his aura, wincing at the use of his already strained reserves, he ran forward, leaving little tracks to follow. Passing behind the waterfall, sweating already at the heat radiating from it, he rushed further in, feeling a feeble but steady stream of air.
Glacing back, there fortunately weren't any persuers yet so he had to hurry and find a safe place to recuperate.
He kept on running deeper and deeper.
Unbeknownst to him, with every bit of energy he expended, the plate in his pocket seemed to become more and more invigorated.

It had been a few hours since he entered the tunnel, his aura soon having depleted to dangerously low levels, forcing him to take a rest.
He didn't find any trace of his pursuers, giving him time to call out his pokemon to give them first aid.
As the tunnel was narrow, he had to call them out two at a time, depending on their size, going from the most severe to those with minor injuries.
The first he called out were Umbreon and Charizard.
They had been fighting the most, aside from Lucario. From all his pokemon, they were the ones who had received the most severe injuries. Umbreon had a cracked bone and multiple cuts and bruises, while Charizard had injured its left eye. A big cut ran from his right horn all the way down his eye towards its jaw.
Its scarred chest had gained more than a few new wounds as well, most of them having stopped bleeding, yet they would surely form new scars as soon as it healed.
Retrieving potions and bandages from his bag, he began to treat their wounds. Disinfecting them, pulling out filth and cleaning the wound before he began to stitch them up. Giving it a few sprays of potion, he proceeded to bandage them up.
From the looks of it, Charizard was lucky, as his eye was undamaged. It would heal without any lasting damage.
Having left Unbreon's cracked bone for last, he tentatively traced Umbreon's front paw, noticing no abnormalities indicating a misaligned bone. Ensuring everything was in place, he took out his dinner utensils, making a makeshift splint from it to ensure it healed properly.
Being a pokemon, it would naturally heal faster than that of a human, yet it would still take a bit of time. Time they had little of.
Having finished, he returned them and continued on with the rest.
Metagross and PIkachu had minor injuries, needing only rest and a few potions to increase their rate of healing.
Now he ended up with his partner.
Lucario had come of on the best side, all things considered.
He was covered in small wounds and bruises, having avoided major injuries.
Like Metagross and Pikachu, the thing he needed most was rest and a few potions. Yet when he wanted to call him back as well, Lucario refused, intending to stay outside.
Already familiar with Lucario's dislike for his pokeball, he let Lucario remain outside.
Leaning against the wall, he let his head slump against the wall, all the exhaustion of the days catching up with him.
Lucario sat down beside him, pulling Ares rather forcefully against his shoulder, letting the latters head rest against Lucario's soft fur. The message was clear, as Ares muttered a thanks, drifting of to sleep soon after, letting Lucario take the first watch.
While his trainer slept, Lucario let his senses spread out, faint signs of life coming within reach, as were the many bursts of elemental energy hidden in the ground. Evolution stones no doubt, yet they had no time to even think about looking for them.
As the time ticked by, Lucario could feel the signs of life spreading out, in groups of four inching slowly through the many tunnel networks in the mountain. So far, the one they were in hadn't been discovered yet, but two signatures seemed to gravitate closer.
They didn't have a lot of time.
When Lucario was ready to wake Ares up to get a move on again, a subtle hint of energy drew his attention. It was close, a bit further into the tunnel they were in now.
It was familiar yet not, his mind going back to the metal box Ares had held.
Shaking Ares a bit to wake him up, they slowly moved further in, Ares yawning abit, wiping the sleep from his eyes as he slowly but surely woke up completely.
Following the trace Lucario had felt, they soon ended at a turn in the tunnel, yet the signature came from that very wall.
Turning to Lucario, who had already 'put on' his sharp metal claws, Ares waited as Lucario unearthed the origin, which was a rainbow colored gem the size of a marble. A strange pattern seemed to flicker in and out of sight, depending on the angle it was seen from.
If he wasn't mistaken, this should surely be.... a key stone.
