บท 44: Tournament's Preparations
In the main building of Heaven Dou Imperial Academy, Haotian stood alone in front of the principal's office.
"Tock!" Haotian knocked on the door.
"You can pass" Listening the voice from inside, Haotian opened the door, entering the office. In there, the three heads of the school board stood.
"Good morning, teachers" Haotian lightly bowed "Can I know why you had requested my presence?"
Haotian already had some idea for what it could be. The Continental Tournament was in less than 3 months and Biyun and Meijing were outside over the Star Dou Forest searching for their spirit rings.
"Thanks for coming so quickly." Zhi Lin said "We called you to talk about the Continental Tournament that would occur in a near future."
"As you know, out academy is able to present two teams. The first being chosen as representative of the Heaven Dou Empire while the second as a normal academy." Bai Baoshan explained.
"The first team as the representatives are exempt from the qualifying tournament, directly going towards the finals at Spirit City" Meng Shenji said "As such is the same as be considered the strongest team of the empire and its representatives, their performance becoming a show of the empire's strength."
"So we would like for your Team Prince to ascend, becoming the new Emperor Team and the representatives of Heaven Dou Empire" He finished saying.
"Shouldn't you ask Sun Jiezhi? He is the leader of the Prince Team." Haotian answered.
"We all know about it, even if Jiezhi is the leader, it's only in name. It's clear that your decisions and ideas are first. The only reason that you are not the leader is because you did skip most of the clases and you did not want it." Meng Shenji said.
"We also know that your relationship with Tianheng is not very good that's why we proposed a chabge if team rather than your ascend." Bai Baoshan said.
"Ma Biyun, Chen Meijing, Bai Chenxiang, Dugu Yan that joined not long ago and you. Your five strength is stronger than the actual Emperor Team" Zhi Lin said "And for the other spot, we will let you choose them, taking anyone that you want from the actual Emperor team for example Xie Lingling who you seem to have a good relationship."
"Would you accept becoming the next Emperor Team?" Shenji finally said "With it you would obtain the maximum privileges and resources that the academy can give and you could even obtain a nobleship from the empire."
Haotian made a thougtful face, seemingly to be thinking about it.
After half a minute, Haotian finally opened his mouth "I'm very honored for the offer, but my answer is no, sorry."
Haotian had already thought about the possibility and he was already prepared to negate it. The time thinking? It was bad manners to directly negate it.
Shenji sighed "Can I know the reason?"
"Experience" Haotian answered "We didn't have much experience fighting other teams and people and the first faces of the tournament would make up for it, becoming an invaluable experience. That way we would be more prepared and the team would have a better connexion when we arrive at the finals."
That was true, however, what Haotian hid was that it would be a great time to check out potential girls for his spirit while showing his strength and starting a favorable opinion with them.
Shenji looked at Haotian's eyes and his resolution. He knew that he would be unable to convince him
He nodded at that. Haotian's group didn't really participate much in the training and while they were incredibly strong individually, it was a team tournament in the end. The qualifiers would really be a good opportunity to improve their teamwork.
"We will respect your decision." He wrote something on a paper in front of his table. "We will take care of everything. Be sure to be in top condition for the tournament. Show them the power of Heaven Dou!"
"Yes!" Haotian made a little bow before turning away, leaving the office.
"It's a pity" Zhi Lin said "If he joined hands with Tianheng, we would have the strongest team ever. We could have overpowered every team."
"Except Spirit Hall" Bai Baoshan said, all of them looking downcast "For them to have 3 Spirit Kings. It's normal for them to be so sure about their victory."
"If only we have more time, Chenxiang would have also reached Spirit King" said Shenji shaking his head.

Just as Haotian left the main building, two beautiful girls joined him, hugging each of his arms. They were Yan and Chenxiang that were waiting for him.

Spirit bones required some time to completely fuse with the body. That time depending on strength of the spirit master and the spirit bone, compatibility between both and finally, the pressure, fighting a difficult battle with it and experiencing hardships would lower the time.
If a spirit bone wasn't fully absorbed, it could be taken by force by others. On the other hand, once fully absorbed, the only way to take it out was crippling oneself, forcing them out of the body, needing the spirit energy of the own spirit master to d oit. That was why it was so important to take spirit bones compatible with oneself as they wouldn't be able to change it.
Thanks to Haotian's control over his spirit, he was able to absorb much faster, but millions years spirit bones were too strong. He would need some time.
"Also, even when my spirit power is much stronger than people at my rank, I'm unable to use the skills of my spirit bones as they consume too much spirit power" Haotian explained "That time was only me freeing the surplus of energy. At most, I'm able to invoke the spirit bones, increasing my arms strength to a new level."
"Nevertheless, I'm so jealously. I also want one." Chenxiang declared.
"Hm!" Haotian hummed "Don't worry, it won't be long until you obtain one."
"Do you have one for me?!" Chenxiang said with hope, her eyes shining with stars.

If nothing changed from the novel, the prize for the Continental Tournament would be three spirit bones, compatibles with the three Spirit Kings from the Golden Generation of Spirit Hall. One leg spirit bone that increased speed, one arm spirit bone that boosted flame damage and lastly a skull spirit bone that increased wisdom.
The leg spirit bone would be perfect for Chenxiang, the arm spirit would go to Biyun and for the skull spirit bone Haotian didn't know if absorb it himself or gave it to Yan.
Of course, before obtaining them, they would need to win the tournament and it won't be so easy. Haotian was sure that he would be able to easily win against every other team but Spirit Hall was the exemption.
Spirit Hall team was incredibly strong and with three top genius at the Spirit King realm it would become difficult even with Haotian's group's top spirit due to the lack of a full 7 team, needing other supports.
In the novel, Shrek was only able to win because they were looked down upon, underestimating them and wanting to finish them quickly.
Spirit Hall's spirit fusion's strongest point was its charm. If that charm was of no use, the spirit fusion became a huge waste of spirit energy, exhausting themselves. If they had fought calmly and analyzing carefully Shrek, their victory would have been almost certain.
It could become a difficult fight. Of course, if Haotian was able to reach rank 50 and bond with a new girl before the finals, it would become far easier.
"Do you have some plan for today, master?" Yan asked politely "I know a very good restaurant, we could go together." Yan said with hope.
"Sorry, Yan, but we should let it for another day. I already have a date today." Haotian answered.
"A date?" Chenxiang said thoughtful "With whom?"
Haotian smiled "With a very cute pink-haired girl."
