It was early morning and Zed who was sleeping was woken up by the welcomed sound of birds chirping just outside the car workshop.
As he sat up in the back seat of his car he heard a loud crashing sound from just outside the car. When he turned around and looked out of the back window he was surprised to see his best friend Kagami carrying loads of tools.
Zed pushed the front passenger seat forward and got out from his car. "Morning Kagami. What are you doing this early?" Zed asked as he wiped his eyes and gave a yawn.
"Ah good morning to you to Zed. I'm currently gathering some tools to make sure we can do any car repairs on the go." Kagami said while picking up the various tools which had fallen to the ground.
This wasn't a bad idea actually as Zed knew how important cars were in the early stages of the apocalypse. Zed was a little surprised he hadn't thought of this earlier. 'Well at least Kagami thought about it,' he thought to himself.
Zed continued walking towards Kagami and then helped him pick up all the tools which were currently on the ground. He then began walking into the kitchen where there was a fridge. Zed knew where everything was as he had stayed at Kagami's workshop multiple times before.
Zed reached into the fridge and pulled out a carton of milk. He then moved to the cupboards and retrieved a bowl and some cereal. This would be his breakfast for the day.
When making himself the cereal he had noticed that hardly any food remained in any cupboards so he called out to Kagami to ask why.
It had turned out that Kagami had packed all of the canned and long-life foods he had and placed them with all the other stuff he wanted to bring along with him.
When Zed finally saw all of the belongings that the pair would need and if packed into Zeds car, the thought of free space was non-existent. Zed thought for a minute and came to the conclusion that he should use the inventory space which the system had given to him.
As Zed thought about the inventory appearing in front of himself a window only visible to himself popped up. The window had a title reading 'Inventory' and underneath it were many slots for which he could store items in. The inventory was limited to carrying 50 items. Beside each item slot was a small '0/100' which meant you could probably stack items.
Zed walked up to to the pile of tools, food and other supplies. He placed his hand above it and all of a sudden the entire pile disappeared. It soon reappeared within the items slots of the inventory.
Zed had done this when Kagami had left the room. As he didn't want Kagami to get suspicious of his powers just yet he walked to the back of the car. He picked up a large toolbox which sat beside the car and placed it into the boot.
"System, is there a way to transfer items into another storage device?" Zed asked. He planned to put some tools into this toolbox as for it to look like everything was still there. The main thing that he needed to store was the food and some of his guns which currently sat on the passenger's seat and floor.
"Yes, this is possible," the system replied.
With a smile, Zed placed his hand over the toolbox and began transferring some tools. Next, he moved to the front of the car and put all the weapons in his inventory except for three guns and two knives for quick access. He placed the guns which he had left for quick access throughout the car.
Kagami walked back into the car workshop carrying 3 car batteries. He looked at Zed and told him to retrieve the rest of the batteries.
Listening to his friend's instruction Zed went out to the yard and found another three batteries which he carried back to the car. They placed the batteries into the boot which was now full.
The only thing left to get was fuel since they wouldn't be able to stop for fuel all the time. The pair found four large gas cans which they filled to the top with gasoline. Zed put the gasoline canisters on the floor of the back seats. There would still be enough room for the family which Zed wanted to save since altogether the group would be made up of only six people. There would be two in the front seats and three in the back with the little boy sitting on the parents' lap.
This would be cramped for a while, but Zed knew of a place with a tank. All he needed to do was infiltrate a military base. This may sound rather difficult, however, tomorrow the apocalypse would begin at exactly 9 am. During the first 15 hours of the apocalypse, everyone on earth would fall unconscious and the zombies would run wild. This was known as the first blackout. If a zombie bit, you would soon awaken and join in on the zombie frenzy. This would eventually give way to killing off a large percentage of the world's population.
As this would happen throughout the apocalypse, every 2 years, eventually a way to combat it was discovered. As long as one could keep themselves awake for 20 minutes after the set time, you could stay awake throughout the rest of it. the only way to stay awake was to experience pain for that 20 minutes of time.
Therefore, tomorrow when the apocalypse began Zed and Kagami would do exactly this.
...
For the rest of the day, Zed and Kagami just went over any final adjustments in preparation for the apocalypse. Other that they also decided to get to sleep early so that they could make it to the closest military base before the blackout. This would make it easier to obtain since they wouldn't have to get through as many zombies as if they had waited till after the apocalypse began.
