บท 36: Chapter 35 – Quirk Assessment Test (part 2)

As soon as Shuzenji-sensei, or should l say Knockout, left, we could start our own quirk assessment test.

We directly started with the 50-meter dash, and I saw what my classmates were capable of.

The superiority complex guy had an explosion quirk, it matched his personality well, and propelled himself forward using well, explosions.

The green-haired boy was running against him, but he didn't use his quirk and didn't run very fast, unremarkable was the perfect way to describe him.

There was also a frog girl, someone that had engines on his legs, one that shot a laser from his navel, etc. Quirks are weird.

Finally, it was my turn, I was up against a girl who was invisible. As soon as the start signal was given, I dashed as fast as I could and used a powerful sound blasts to propel myself even faster, similar to how the explosion boy was doing. I also used a "silence field" to mask the fact that I had a sound quirk, making it seem like a quirk who made energy blasts.

I finished in 3.29 seconds, my natural speed was already insanely high, that's why. Explosion boy looked even more furious than before, if it that was even possible, as I had beaten him.

After everyone was done, Aizawa spoke again.

"It seems I have not been direct enough, as I see some of you not giving your all. As I said, the student that will rank last will be expelled. It was not a joke, so you'd better go Plus Ultra."

It was only at that moment that we remembered this small, unimportant fact and the green-haired boy looked as if he was going to puke, his face was distorted by anxiety and stress.

As for me, I wasn't worried, I had no doubt I could finish in the top 5, and probably even in the top three, considering the people in my class.

After the grim warning from Aizawa, everyone was even more ready to go at 110% percent and, on that note, the second test began.

It was a grip strength test, definitely not my forte, but I had done a bit of strength training, so I would probably end up a bit higher than the average, as my quirk couldn't really help me with this one.

As I predicted, I scored 76 kg, I bit higher than average but nothing remarkable. What was hilarious, though, was that I was 1 kg more than Bakugou, and he was livid. For someone set on beating me, he wasn't doing very well. I resisted the urge to taunt him, as I knew it wouldn't end well for either of us.

Next, we did the long jump, where I cleared the sandbox, then the repeated sidesteps, where I did okay, I guess. After that was the softball throw, and it got interesting.

I was amongst the first ones to do it, and I used my quirk to make one big sound blast which propelled the ball high up in the air, then used created even more sound blasts to keep it going even further.

Yes, my sound didn't need to originate from my hand (or body), but it was way harder and less effective. I still could do it fine, though, my training wasn't for nothing.

I got 814.8 meter, as the softball got outside my range at some point, but I was surprised it got this far, I thought I wouldn't got farther than 500 meters, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised, maybe I was underestimating myself.

After a while, it was the green-haired boy's turn and he looked concentrated, as if it would be painful to throw the ball. And he threw it…

And he got 46 meters… It was hilarious. Again, I had to resist the urge to laugh, but I was really asking myself how he entered U.A. Maybe he was had gone through the recommendation exam, but he didn't seem like the type.

After Aizawa explained that he had erased the green-haired boy's quirk and that he needed to be able to continue with the other tests after doing this one, saying some stuff about self-preservation. Only common sense.

But it made sense now, he maybe had a self-destructive quirk or one that he really couldn't control well.

My hypothesis was proven right when he threw the ball again, this time getting an impressive 705.3 meters. 0.1 meter more than Bakugou. That was power, raw power. Very similar to All Might, in fact. But he broke his finger in the process.

Not so surprisingly, explosion-superiority-complex boy was livid, even more furious than I thought possible and straight up propelled himself toward Midoriya, the green-haired boy, trying to attack him.

What was he even doing in a hero school? He was behaving like a villain. Did he know that heroes were saving people or did he just want to beat villains?

Fortunately, Aizawa stopped him using his capture weapon, a fascinating weapon, and erased his quirk.

Even after he was released, Bakugou continued to show his teeth like an enraged dog, a comparison that fitted him well, but the drama had ended, the test could finally resume.

Next was the distance run, where I once again scored excellently, but was outclassed by Momo who just created a bicycle and the guy with engines in his leg, Iida. I placed third, which was still good.

Then in the seated toe-touch test, I performed well, I wasn't as flexible as Knockout, but still pretty flexible myself.

The last test was the sit-ups and it also went well, I had trained a lot after all. In the last two tests, I didn't pay a lot of attention to my classmates, but still noticed that explosion-boy was furious every time I did better than him and green hair was doing very poorly.

Finally, we could see our results and the one I was most interested was not myself, but Shuzenji-sensei, or Knockout.

I was curious to see how an extremely well-trained person could do against quirk users and was not disappointed, he placed third, while I got second place and Momo got first.

I wasn't really surprised by those results, as even with all the training I would ever do, I could never beat the sheer versatility of her quirk, it was something else. I'm pretty sure it allowed her to create anything out of her body fat, but I wasn't sure about the details.

It also wasn't shocking that Knockout got third place, because he couldn't best the power and versatility both my and Momo's quirks could offer, but he was still inhumanly strong, fast and durable.

In fourth place was Todoroki, a boy with an Ice quirk. The only reason he wasn't higher being that he didn't have much endurance at using his quirk.

In fifth place was Bakugou, once again mad that for a reason or another, but probably because he got beaten by someone who wasn't using a quirk at all and just because it was his natural state.

And in last place was Midoriya, who I was certain was going to cry at any moment, but before that could happen, Aizawa revealed the truth.

"Also, I was lying about expelling someone. That was a rational deception…It was meant to bring out the best in all of you."

"Also, I hope that you won't take it too badly that you almost all got beaten in a quirk assessment test by someone who wasn't using his quirk. And I hope that it will teach you a lesson," he scoffed looking immensely amused.

I wasn't too surprised by this, Knockout had done his fair share of rational deception while training me, and I still remember some of the most intense (and mean) ones…

Maybe he really would've expelled someone if they were hopeless, though, but no one except him knows…

"Of course, that was a lie. Didn't take that much to figure that out," Momo said.

Apparently, she had also deduced that Aizawa wasn't going to expel anyone today, but I disagreed with her, as I could picture Aizawa expelling a student he deemed "without prospects".

"Also, stop shaking and take this paper Midoriya, the only place you're going is Recovery Girl's office," Our homeroom teacher said, handing a paper to said student, who had broken his finger during the ball throw.

"Anyway, we're done here. Your documents about the curriculum and such are back in the classroom. Give them a look," he continued, walking away.

.

Well, that was eventful for a first morning of school, between a student with a superiority complex, who hated me (and was supremely annoying), one with an inferiority complex (a wimp), a teacher using deception, but most importantly, Knockout teaching at U.A., a lot happened.

All I could say is that it would be an interesting year.

Hoped you liked this chapter! I didn’t put Kyotaka in first place as it would’ve made sense, giving Momo’s quirk. She still got second place, though.

Rewrote last chapter a, but nothing major happened. The only think that it important to know is that "Soul" (the quirk that makes his quirks impossible to steal/erase/copy/etc. ) can be turned off by Raiko if he wants to.

Tomorrow, the extra chapters I promised will be released.
