"Hold it right there!"
"You two are not batling in a Pokemon sanctuary." Leaf stuttered as she warns the two from impending trouble. She was pinching the two's ears to stop them.
"OWwww!" The two groaned in pain as they felt the swell from their ear.
"Sorry Miss Leaf…" Ren apologized as Leaf releases her from her pinching fingers. She can still feel the pain and realized how often does Yoake feels about this.
"Right. Now, how about you just do the classic Rock-Paper-Scissor? The winner gets to choose a starter first." Leaf suggested to the two. It was a boring idea for the two since the sensation of battling was there in them, crawling through their body, tingling their brain on wanting to do it but from the pinch of the Veteran, they decided to follow her suggestion.
"Fine. Let's battle after getting our starter." Yoake told his rival.
"Sure." Ren agreed to her rival's suggestion. The two looked at each other as they prepare for a battle they won't enjoy. Since it was the only way for them to decide on who's first, they were brainstorming on what to pick, rock, paper, or scissors.
"Kids." Professor Oakido sighed as he shook his head after seeing the two. He was very reminiscent of the two, he was reminded of the adventure of his grandson and his rival.
"Rock"
"Paper"
"Scissor"
"Shoot!"
The two trainers shouted as they threw in their hands to show what they chose, was it rock, was it paper or was its scissors. As much of dismay to Yoake, Ren won as she threw in her fist, a sign of a rock, and Yoake choose scissors, with his two fingers forming a greater sign (>), symbolizing scissors.
One of Yoake's biggest weaknesses is rock, paper, scissors. He couldn't plan quickly, and with his mind scattering through his head to the point he couldn't make a proper decision in a short amount of time, he always loses even though the game was very simple.
'Can memorize 13 types with their weaknesses, resistance, and effectiveness and use it properly, yet barely wins in a simple rock-paper-scissors match. Why am I surprised.' Leaf said in her head. Claudine chuckled and made a small smile after hearing that, knowing that her trainer can understand complex type match-ups and not the simple ones are just something worth laughing at.
"Uhhh. Fine, you choose first." Yoake told his rival. Even though he doesn't want to admit his defeat, he has no choice but to obliged as this was a fair match.
'Well, I can just pick the Pokemon that has a type advantage. Let's see, if she choose Venusaur, I can just pick Charizard, but I already have Fearow to cover it, I'll have two pokemon that are weak against electric and rock, no. If she chooses, Blastoise, I can pick Venusaur, but I already have a Weepinbell as a coverage, tsk- no. Charizard? Well, I don't have a water type, for now, Blastoise might be a good one for my team.' Yoake brainstormed in his head as he was planning on what to pick as his starter.
"Okay Ren, pick who will become your partner throughout your journey." Professor Oakido told the trainer.
She walked forward and looked at each of the Kanto starters. It didn't take long however as she has picked one that will be beneficial for her team, Offensively and Defensively.
"I'll choose Blastoise," Ren said as she slowly walked toward the turtle-like Pokemon, and slowly gives her hand to the Pokemon as a sign of friendliness.
"WHAT!?" Yoake shouted in disbelief. Yoake sighed in frustration as he was also planning to choose Blastoise as well. It is safe to say that Yoake was dead inside after hearing the words from his rival, and Claudine was laughing in her thoughts.
"Great choice Ren, welcome to the Blue Shell Clan!" Ren was very supportive of Ren's decision as she also picked Blastoise as her starter 6 years ago.
"EH!? Why are you congratulating her? I was also planning to get Blastoise…" Yoake murmured after hearing the words from his babysitter with utter dismay.
"Well, I chose Squirtle as my starter six years ago, and till this day, he's been with me far longer than the time I met you." Leaf explained to the trainer. Yoake sighed as he was given no repercussion on what to pick.
'I already have Victreebell so I don't need Venusaur, even though it's more powerful and has access to thick fat upon mega evolving, but I've grown an attachment to Victreebell. I can't just let him go. Charizard on the other hand, he's just worse. Regular Charizard is weak to stealth rock and Kanto is known to be very antagonistic towards fire type. But his mega evolution though. If I'm getting a Mega X and that'll be good enough. Dragon plus Fire-type is a good combo, Mega Y is good since it has drought. Both Mega forms are good. Maybe Charizard is just better.' Yoake brainstormed in his head as he was thinking of plans and possible ways to take advantage of Charizard's power. Even though he has no favors towards Charizard, and with the limited team he has, he has no choice but to choose Charizard.
"Okay. I'll pick Charizard." Yoake said as he walked towards the orange lizard and slowly touched its forehead. It was friendly yet fierce at the same time. His hand slowly swayed through the scaly skin of the starter.
"Well, Welcome to the team. The name's Yoake, and that Gardevoir over there is Claudine. Hmmm, maybe I should give you a nickname, how about Hamilton? Nah, too classy. Charles? Nah. Spicy Wing? Nah." Yoake begins to utter random names as he was planning to give Charizard a nickname.
'Who'll name a Charizard 'Spicy Wings'?' Leaf asked herself in her thoughts.
"How about Ember?" Claudine suggested.
"Yeah, Ember, that could work." Yoake agreed to his Pokemon's suggestion.
"Right. Since Ren already has a Mega stone. Here, you'll be needing this to Mega Evolve Charizard." The professor said as he gives the mega stone to the trainer. Since it was a precious stone and might be needed for future battles, he has to find something to hold the mega stone at an easy reach.
"Thanks." Yoake thanked the professor.
Later on, the professor gave the respective Pokeballs of both Pokemon to the two trainers. Ren and Leaf were busy discussing Mega Blastoise while Yoake was walking beside the professor, and behind them was Claudine, busy staring at the ground, impatiently waiting for them to finally go back home.
As they left the sanctuary, they were greeted by a stunning woman in the lobby, it was none other than the current Kanto Pokemon Champion, Karen. As they showed up from the sanctuary, Karen immediately notices Yoake and greeted him as if they have met before.
"Awww look who's grown up, do you still remember me?" Karen greeted the trainer.
"Wait, you know her?" Leaf asked the trainer as she was shocked to see the champion acting towards him.
"I hmm excuse me, no but aren't you the current Pokemon champion of Kanto?" Yoake asked Karen as he was confused.
"Yes. Man, how's Anna and Trevor been doing? It's been years, I haven't seen them for a very long time." Karen told the trainer. As soon as she mentions the two names, Yoake realized that she knows his parents' names.
"Wait, you know my mom and dad?" Yoake asked the champion.
"Yup. I was one of your father's rivals when we were still young Pokemon trainers. Now, just friends." Karen answered the trainer's question.
"Things went a bit quiet nowadays. Kinda skeptical about it to be honest." Karen continued.
"I see, so you must know something about Battle Bond then!?" Yoake asked the champion as he jumped to a conclusion.
"Battle Bond? What's that?" Karen asked him as she was very unfamiliar with the word.
"It's an ability, Still being studied but it seems that the Katsuragis has access to this rare ability. Currently, we want info from Yoake's father but there's no success as he always dismisses our calls. " The professor explained to the champion.
"Interesting. How about we discuss this in the canteen area?" Karen suggested.
-
"So, you're telling me that Yoake can combine both of his and Claudine's mindsets into one, and allow them to reach a huge power spike in battles. Did I get it right?" Karen tried to summarize the amount of information she got from the professor.
"Yes." The professor said.
"Interesting. So, you believe that your father has all of your answers about Battle bond?" Karen asked the trainer.
"Yes." Yoake answered.
"I see. Does Battle Bond and Mega Evolution has some sort of parallelism?" Karen asked in curiosity.
"We're not sure. But we can test it out in the field." The professor suggested.
"Hmm, Mega Gengar vs Battle Bond Gardevoir, not a bad battle, what do you think?" Ren asked her rival as she was offering a battle just so the champion can see what Battle Bond looks like.
"Good idea, We can do it now." Karen overheard the two's conversation.
"Well then, let's go to the testing area then." Leaf said as they stood up and followed Leaf to the test area where the two trainers will battle out between Mega Evolution and Battle bond.
"Professor, the Prime minister wanted to give this to you. This is classified information from what happened last night." Karen whispered to the professor as she gives him a USB.
"I heard some rumors about Saffron investing on this thing called 'Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing', I'm not sure if this is safe." the professor whispered to the champion.
"Well, they asked Wyndon about it, let's see how things would go."
A/N: Hello everyone, Pokemon day is nearby and I was planning to celebrate it by taking a break so I might leave this book on a short hiatus since I'm kinda busy for the past few days. So, I hope you guys understand, but I might make an offshoot volume where it focuses more on the specialists' lives and possibly freshen out some characters. Thank you all for reading and see you all in the next chapter.
