Narrator's POV
Crime had surged in the town once it's beloved sheriff was dead. Not because the only cops remaining were ineffective, but they also were easily sold out to the convicts if they got enough money.
It was a rough time for many of the villagers including the council. But no one had it harder that the family Sherriff left behind. One could argue that the anticipation of such an outcome was the reason behind Sheriff's decision to lead a lonely life. He never showed any interest in anyone just for the sake of it. But what about the family you are born with? It is there no matter whether you ever wanted it or not.
Even if he was dead, he could not let go of the fear that his family might be targeted for his line of work. Since he was killed by someone else, and his death being an unnatural one, he decided to not cross over until he makes sure everyone is alright.
It's weird how frustrated I felt as an author at the end of this chapter.
There is more to his backstory than I can fit in the story, now that he is gone...
I was hoping to add it as an extra after the novel ends...
will u guys be interested?
(Imma add anyways)
