Syn then took a sip of her coffee that was already cold. She only drank caffeinated beverages once in a while because of her doctor's advice. The lady missed the familiar bitter taste of a milkless cup of four shots of espresso. 

As the liquid glided down her throat, she felt her hands begin to quiver. She immediately put them on her lap and straightened her body. Syn looked at her uncle, her eyes the model of detachment. 

"You're aware of how cruel they can be. I am no masochist to tolerate their behaviour."
