50% Angel of Destruction (DxD) / Chapter 14: Recreational Activities

บท 14: Recreational Activities

A loud crashing sound rang out as Ezekiel slammed into a flying boulder. Immediately afterwards he jumped to the side and dodged another attack coming his way. He already had multiple cuts along his whole body which were slowly mending.

Just after he dodged his opponent, an older boy that looked to be in his teenage years rushed after him.

„Your future sight won't help you against me!" He said, swinging his spear at Ezekiel, who only managed to offset part of the force and got pushed back again.

"Not exactly father. It helps, but it doesn't make any difference in the end." Ezekiel answered though strained breaths. Even if he was quite a bit taller than his father and looked bodily stronger, looks can be deceiving. Especially when it comes to his father. At least Ezekiel only heard of three entities that could take him on in a one on one. But even then, not all of these three had a 100% chance to win against him.

"You better concentrate instead of making smart comments, son." Shiva chastised him and at the same time landed a powerful kick into Ezekiel's stomach, sending him flying into another boulder again.

Shiva calmly waited for his son to climb out of the rubble again.

"I still can't even make you serious when sparring." Ezekiel voiced out while looking out for potential attacks that Shiva might throw at him.

"Hahaha, don't make me laugh. You think you can fight a serious fight with your old man, just because you beat some of those feathered uncles of yours." Shiva snorted in return. He would have given him a piece of his mind if he weren't already beating him up.

Ezekiel now had a wry smile on his face. Of course, he knew it himself that the gap between them was still large. Even the top ten strongest beings were by no means close in strength to each and every other member. Just think about Hades fighting Great Red. Now that would be a spectacle, not a very exciting one however.

"Brace yourself, son!" Shiva shouted, while Ezekiel prepared himself again.

The next instant Shiva vanished and the space behind him cracked from the sheer force involved. Ezekiel strained his ability to predict the next seconds to its, absolute limits causing him a slight headache which he ignored. He fell into a state that increased his instinctual reactions by manifold. It was actually a technique that his father taught him a few years before, but it was only recently that he got a hang on it. When all his senses screamed because of an incoming danger, he swung his sword to his right side, shortly before Shiva appeared at the exact spot.

Before he could hit him however, Shiva vanished again, and his father's voice rang out coupled with the cold spear tip pressed against his neck: "It's my win again."

Ezekiel sighed, before he let the tension in his body fade away.

"That makes 53 wins for me and 0 for you." Shiva smirked lightly.

"Just you wait father, I will make you serious one day!" Ezekiel exclaimed with determination.

"I know you will Ezekiel." Shiva replied, genuinely believing in his son's ability to reach his level at some point in the future.

"It is good to have a goal, son. But you should still think of other goals that won't involve fighting. It will broaden your horizons and you won't miss something important because you were overly concentrated on only a single thing." Shiva advised.

They shared a few more moments of father and son, until it was time for Ezekiel to return. School would soon start, and he wouldn't want to be late.

It has been a few months since they both met up early in the morning on certain days. Since Ezekiel's training in the Vatican and Heaven wasn't really demanding anymore, Shiva took it upon himself to help him improve from time to time. That didn't change now that he was living in Kuoh and since they hold their little fights in the dimensional gap, they wouldn't accidentally destroy Kuoh. Or Japan.

After they said their goodbyes and promised to meet up a few days later, Ezekiel quickly returned to his apartment to shower and get into fresh clothes.

-o-

School was boring, but that was to be expected since he already learned all the teaching material from Griselda.

Ezekiel was currently standing on the roof of the school building and thinking. First it was Jeanne that mentioned he should find hobby for himself and now his father told him to search for a goal that isn't based on fighting. Maybe they were right, and he should spend part of his time differently. Before he came to Kuoh he was constantly training or out on mission to gain experience. Therefore, he didn't spend much thought on hobbies.

"I could look if there is an interesting club for after school activities. Though I will definitely not join the Student Council or Occult Research Club. That would be just asking to get annoyed. Even if not all of them seem bad, the student council is too strict and nothing but work. And I probably couldn't relax around that brown-haired idiot." Ezekiel mused and made his way down from the roof to look for different clubs that he might join.

The first one he came across was the photography club. It was not really what one would expect. Or maybe it was exactly that was to be expected in Kuoh. In short, it was not a club he would join.

There was calligraphy, which seemed interesting to him, but the atmosphere didn't seem right.

He visited the different sport clubs and suffice to say they didn't excite him with his monstrous physical prowess.

Even the Kendo Club was better described as playing swords. It really hurt someone like him, that dedicated much time in refining his techniques. Even Jeanne would probably lose that cheerful attitude she usually had and cut down the dojo.

As he was losing hope to find something of interest, he heard someone humming at the edge of the school grounds where a lot of trees grew and would transition into the forest behind. The voice was pleasant to listen to, so he decided to take a look. He was as silent as he could be and moved closer. As he came through some thicket, he was a bit surprised at what he found. Around fifteen meters in front of him sat Abelia happily humming away in front of a big canvas. She was drawing a squirrel that was munching on some nuts. Even Ezekiel had to admit the scene in front of him would paint a beautiful picture.

Since he didn't want to interrupt her, he sat down and leaned on a nearby tree. As immersed as Abelia was, she didn't notice him. As Ezekiel watched her paint, he got interested and thought about trying it himself. A good painting seemed to capture the surrounding atmosphere and feelings even better than a photo would. Abelia seemed experienced and without any wasted movements the strokes of her brush accumulated on the canvas. Maybe he could ask her to teach him how to paint?

-o-

Abelia went to the edge of the school grounds after her last lesson was over. She was constantly thinking about why her mother sent her to Kuoh and why the new exchange student seemed so familiar. Since she wouldn't manage to come up with anything useful, she decided to distract herself after school. She took some painting supplies and searched for a quiet spot that fit her requirements. It was always easy for her to interact with animals, so it came as no surprise that a small squirrel took the role of her model.

She became more and more immersed and unconsciously began to hum while painting.

After around two hours, she made the finishing touches and her painting was finished. As she was taking a good look at it, she heard someone clapping behind her which made her jump like a cat that got its tail stepped on.

Just some meters behind her sat Ezekiel, the exact same person she was curious about.

"How long have you been there?" She demanded with a hint of embarrassment.

"Excuse me for intruding, but I heard your humming and chanced upon you painting while wandering around. It wasn't my intention to make you uncomfortable." Ezekiel answered calmly. He had to admit she looked even cuter when she acted that embarrassed, but he wouldn't let it show.

Abelia studied his face for any sign of falsehood but didn't find any. Since he didn't seem to mean any harm, she didn't mind spending some time together and possibly even learn where she might have seen him before. Abelia lived in Kuoh for some time already, but aside from a few acquaintances she hadn't built any deeper friendships.

"It's fine, I was just startled that somebody was so close without me noticing." She replied while sitting down in front of him.

"I'm glad to hear that. Are you in the art club or something?" He asked, showing interest.

"I am. Actually, I'm the only member." She told him before becoming slightly embarrassed.

"That's perfect then. What do I have to do to join?" Ezekiel inquired.

"You just need a proper interest in art as far as I'm concerned. As for the formalities, I will handle everything once you filled out the application." Abelia smiled in reply since finally someone showed genuine interest in her hobby.

"I will do that then. If you don't mind me asking. You said you were the only member of the club? Why is that?" Ezekiel curiously asked.

At that Abelia gained an unnatural annoyed expression: "I kicked all the other members out of the club. These idiots actually thought memes and Gangnam Style are art. Please just forget about that. If you are genuinely interested, I'm glad to welcome you to the art club."

As she smiled at the end of her sentence Ezekiel returned a smile of his own and replied while standing up: "I understand. Tomorrow after school then?"

Abelia nodded in affirmation.

"Until tomorrow then Abelia." Ezekiel waved at her and left with a smile on his face.

Abelia didn't learn anything substantial about him, but they would have enough time to get to know each other during the coming club activities.

Ezekiel however was still wondering what memes and Gangnam Style are.

บท 15: The Cleanup

Sona met up with her peerage before joining her friend Rias in her club building. Currently they were sitting on opposite couches with their servants behind them.

Rias was the first to open her mouth: "So you were contacted as well, Sona? I want to know who has the guts to-"

"Wait Rias. We should think about what we know and can rant later. Is that acceptable?" Sona questioned calmly, but Rias knew her long enough to know that she was serious. More serious as normally that is.

"Then let me summarize. We both got a message from someone criticizing us for our management of the town. The messages were phrased differently but in essence they are the same. They speak about the fallen angels and stray devils roaming the town. In extension maybe their subordinates." Sona stopped to see if Rias had something to say but seeing her just nodding her head she was about to continue.

"What you got a message as well?" Issei practically shouted.

His intervention raised a few eyebrows. The hierarchy should be clear in an official meeting between high ranking devils.

"You got a message as well? What did it say Hyoudou?" Sona asked

"It- it said..It said nothing." He stammered and got quieter to the end.

"Issei be quiet now or I will have to discipline you later!" Rias reprimanded harshly, feeling slightly embarrassed in front of her friend.

"Yes president." He replied, while thinking what the punishment from Rias might entail.

"Continuing where I left off, it seems that the person that left the message didn't like how we deal with threats, threats to the common populace that is and I'm inclined to agree." Sona explained.

"But what about another war breaking out?" Rias questioned.

"If a war would break out because of us dealing with stray members of a faction, then it would have happened sooner or later either way. And if it were members that were still affiliated with a faction, then they obviously had no respect for us to begin with." Sona replied. It seems it was the right decision to involve herself more actively in the management of the town. At first, she thought to leave it to Rias, so that she could get some achievements of her own considering the problem she faces at the moment.

"You propose we deal with them?" Rias questioned.

"Exactly. From what we know, both you and me as high ranked devils are the strongest beings in the town. Though the messenger could be at our level, he might just specialize in stealth. Dealing with a few fallen angels and their subordinates shouldn't be too much of a challenge." Sona clarified.

"But aren't we just doing what that person wants us to do?" Rias questioned, obviously dissatisfied with being used.

Ezekiel would have rolled his eyes and asked her if she would stop breathing if someone told her to breath. Keeping the town free from threats was their task after all since they see themselves as the governors of Kuoh.

"It doesn't matter to me what that person said. Since we were the ones tasked with governing Kuoh, we are obligated to keep it safe from the supernatural. Aside from that, we look weak if we don't do anything." Sona stated.

"You are right Sona, did you already gather information on what we are dealing with?" Rias asked relenting.

"I did. There are four fallen angels, but none are a real threat. Aside from them a high number of former exorcists. The number of exorcists could range from 20 to as high as 50. It was hard to get an accurate count on them since they are running around towns. Their main hideout though is the local church." Sona said.

"Whaaat?! Did you say church? Then Asia is in danger, we have to help her!" Issei exclaimed loudly.

"What are you talking about Issei?" Rias asked, exasperated at the lack of manners.

"Uh, sorry president. I met a young nun two days ago and helped her find the church. You could say we are friends." Issei said, scratching his head.

"Issei, didn't I tell you to keep away from the church and anything related to it? I won't be able to revive you a second time." Rias tried to stay calm while explaining.

"But president! How can I ever call myself harem king, if I'm not even able to protect my friends?!" Issei shouted once more.

Sona's eyebrow twitched.

Tsubaki closed her eyes.

The other members of Sona's peerage hid their bodies.

Rias facepalmed.

Akeno hid her mouth before she could let out a laugh.

Kiba turned his head to the side embarrassedly.

Koneko dropped her cookie.

"Issei! You will shut up now! We will attack them either way, but you will keep away from that nun. If you go against my order once more, you will get punished. The church isn't very forgiving to devils that were involved with their members. Am I clear?" Rias huffed. She felt as if teaching a child at the moment.

Issei was a bit taken aback by her anger and stepped back instinctively. He didn't know that Rias just prevented a future beating he would have received.

-o-

Meanwhile Azazel received another report about the actions of his subordinates. Raynare was loyal to him, that was not something he doubted. The problem was that she was doing things on her own without his or Shemhazai's consent.

The thing about her killing that boy before was something he could overlook. It wasn't the first time Grigori dealt with a possible threat. His sacred gear was a dragon type which meant at the least it was on the level of twice critical but possibly even at the level of a Longinus. Now what could go wrong if an idiot suddenly gains that much power.

He of course wouldn't have killed him but tried to rope him in and studied his Sacred Gear. A person with his desires so obvious was easy to manipulate after all. Since he was reincarnated as the servant of Lucifer's younger sister, he was under control now. It wasn't the best possibility, but something he could live with.

Now what to do about his idiotic subordinates? In the end they were loyal to him, they just had to be disciplined properly. With his next course of actions decided he was going to act quickly before someone else did.

-o-

Raynare was glad that she would soon be able to help Azazel better. She respected him very much and when she finally gained a sacred gear, she could be of use to him. Aside from that, her standing inside Grigori would increase which was a plus. She had enough of playing at the bottom ranks.

The problem was that her Sacred Gear ran away. Was it the devils? The nun herself shouldn't have known anything, she was just that innocent. She even believed her, when she told her about how she wanted to help people and her expulsion from heaven wouldn't diminish her strive for being good in the least.

As she was thinking about her future course of action, she heard loud noises from outside.

"Dohnaseek and MIttelt, go look what this ruckus is about!" Raynare ordered. Among her subordinates she could somewhat respect Kalawarner for her loyalty towards their leader. The other twos only use however was a pawn. Their character was even worse than her own.

They nodded in consent and left. As she wanted to talk to Kalawarner about her plans to find the little nun again, her vision suddenly darkened as she lost consciousness.

-o-

Team Gremory was tasked to raid the inside of the church while Team Sitri secured the surroundings for people that might flee.

Currently they were fighting stray exorcists as the doors of the church swung open. Two fallen angels stepped out, both exuding pitiful auras compared to Rias destructive attacks that disintegrated her enemies at the moment. She might not have a proper handle at her powers, but even then, they were nothing to scoff at. The destructive element was one of the strongest in the supernatural world and most of its users made a name for themselves on way or another.

"Akeno and me will deal with them. Kiba, Koneko and Issei, you go inside and search for the rest!" Rias ordered, not taking any of their enemies seriously.

Following her command, her three servants ran inside the church, that was packed with former exorcists. Kiba and Koneko directly started to fight, showing their experience. After a short talk with Rias they knew what they had to do. Their president wanted them to hold off any enemies while Issei should fight a fallen angel, preferably the one that killed him. Rias wanted to resolve the traumas of all her servants, since they were all important to her.

"Issei, we will hold them off. You go ahead!" Kiba shouted while Koneko nodded her head. They weren't really under much pressure with their enhancements as devils. As long as they dodged any light attacks, it was difficult for them to get injured here.

"Yes!" Issei replied loudly and ran off to the back.

-o-

Azazel was just finished with knocking his two subordinates out and thought it was a pity he was just a little too late to get the other two. Suddenly a scream came from behind him and woke him from his thoughts.

"I will deal with you filthy fallen angels!" Issei screamed as he ran through the door. Since Azazel was the first one he spotted, not even registering the knocked out Raynare, he ran at him, pulled his fist back and swung in a wide arc.

Azazel was a bit surprised but an attack at that level wouldn't faze him. It would be a wonder to even hit while he stood still. But due to being startled slightly he instinctively punched out and used a bit more force than intended. As his fist hit Issei in the face, the victim only managed to make a weird sound before he blacked out.

"Ah, what a mess. I will just take these two and leave. If I find out who played me, I should probably show him that I'm not to be trifled with." Azazel mused slightly annoyed, before picking up Raynare and Kalawarner and teleporting back to Grigori. The only good thing was that Issei didn't manage to see his face since he closed his eyes for the incoming punch.

-o-

Rias and Akeno made short work of the two fallen angels, as did Kiba and Koneko of their opponents. As they all met up again, they left together to see how Issei was doing.

The scene they came upon, wasn't what they expected. Issei was on the ground, unconscious and with his face bloodied. Other than a probably broken nose however, he seemed perfectly fine.

Rias facepalmed while the rest of her team sighed at their new member. It seems he had a long way to go.

-o-

While all that was happening, nobody noticed the figure in the sky, filming everything with a camera. If it weren't for him needing a proper view, Ezekiel would have cursed them for destroying the windows. Now however he was laughing to himself.

"1 for Azazel and 0 for Issei. This is gold. I bet the other Seraphs will watch this tape for the whole week."

Hello there, I hope you enjoyed it. :)

The chapter was done early today.

Next chapter will be more of Ezekiel again. As for why Freed didn't appear, the time of the attack obviously changed and he wasn't in the church at that time. Sona and Rias want to deal with stuff themselves, so Sona will just mention the mysterious messenger to her sister later.

The next major plot would be Riser, but that got nothing to do with Ezekiel, so I will only mention it. Afterwards will be the Holy Swords/Kokabiel and the peace-meeting, signifying the emergence of the Brave Saints. I plan to do chapters for each person he recruits, (4-5 people) on how he recruits them and a bit about the past of them. Let me know, what you think of the idea, I think it is good to learn a bit about them and their reasons.

Ezekiel will soon act openly, so you can look forward to that. Aside from that I will put in chapters like the one with Shiva and Abelia from time to time.
