บท 18: Courting you
It was night time and Sabrina just woke up from her long sleep. Sensing some movements, Alexander turned his head and saw Sabrina trying to get up from her bed.
He immediately stood up from his chair and helped her sit dow. He also lifted her bed using a remote so that she'll be comfortable.
"How are you feeling?" asked Alexander.
"Much better," she said then turned her head to look at her manager, "She already woke up 3 hours ago, the nurse had to change her bandages," said Alexander who read what's on her mind.
Sabrina then, sighed in relief after hearing that Kenzie already woke up. She was glad that Kenzie didn't fall to a coma. Suddenly, her stomach created a growling sound.
"Hungry?" asked Alexander which Sabrina nodded as a response.
"Wait here, I'll bring you food. The porridge from a while ago is already cold," he said to her then grabbed his keys and left the room immediately.
Sabrina covered her eyes using her arm and fell into a deep thought.
Why is are this things suddenly happening to me? She asked herself. She didn't deserve this and neither did Kenzie. All of this started because of the man she once loved. If they weren't caught by her wife, none of this would've happened.
If he didn't lie about what really happened in the fire exit, his wife won't take revenge on her and Kenzie who was innocent, wouldn't be lying here on the hospital.
She moved her arm that was covering her eyes and stared at the ceiling. She loved him with all her heart, but was abandoned in the end. Then he suddenly showed up and started to ruin things for her and implicated innocent people.
Her gaze darkened.
Is this the game they wanted to play? Then she is ready to play along!
A sound from Kenzie's bed was heard by Sabrina, she turned her head and saw that she was awake.
She rushed to her side and held her hand, "Oh my gosh Kenzie, you're awake!" she said and tears started to flow down from her face.
It was tears of joy!
"How are you feeling?" she asked her worriedly.
"I'm okay, I just feel like a mummy right now with all these bandages around my arm. And my face kinda hurts, I can't open my left eye. Wait, is my face okay?" she asked in panic then Sabrina started laughing at her.
She just woke up and her first question was how she looked!
"You look just fine," she said wiping her tears.
"I don't believe you! Help me sit up, I wanna see my face," Kenzie said.
Sabrina felt helpless towards her manager, she valued her face so much. She grabbed the remote for the bed and lifted it up so Kenzie was seating.
"Give me a mirror." she said and Sabrina gave her one.
"Aaaaaaah!" a loud scream came from Kenzie's mouth which alarmed the nurses outside their room.
"Did something happen?" asked a nurse.
"This happened!" Kenzie said pointing her face. Her face was totally swollen from the slaps and punches she received yesterday. Her lip had a big wound on the side, she had a blackeye on her left eye and there were bruises on her cheeks.
"Look at me! My face is totally ruined! This is my most priced posession and now it's totally wrecked!" then she cried.
The nurse then chuckled upon hearing her. What an odd patient! The nurse thought. Normally they would be whining about body pain, but this patient was something else, she was complaining about her face.
"Don't worry Ma'am, your face will eventually heal in 3 weeks time," the nurse said.
"3 weeks? That long? Is there a faster way to heal? How am I suppose to do my work if I look like this!" she cried out loud.
Sabrina was the one who felt embarassed for Kenzie's actions. She faced the nurse and said, "I'm sorry for this, I can handle her. You should go back to your work," then she bowed her head shyly to the nurse.
"What happened?" a voice sounded from the door. It was from Alexander. His voice sounded very worried.
"Ah don't look at me!" Kenzie suddenly blurted then covered her face using her arms. Alexander shot Sabrina a confused look.
"She's crying because of her face," she explained to him.
"Sir here the papers you aske--- What's happening?" asked Grey who just arrived at the hospital.
"Oh no! Please leave! Come back after 3 weeks!" she shouted upon hearing Grey's voice then covered her face using her blanket.
Both Sabrina and Alexander felt helpless towards this person. They both pinched the gap between their brows and just sighed.
"Kenzie?" Grey said and walked towards Kenzie's bed.
"No don't come here!" she shouted.
"Hey it's just me, Grey," he said.
"Yeah it's you, so you should leave. I don't want you to see me this ugly!"
"Hey you don't look ugly."
"I do! I do okay? I saw myself in the mirror!"
"But I saw you earlier when you were asleep and you really don't look ugly," he said to her.
After hearing him, Kenzie slowly lowered her blanket and looked at Grey, "Really?" she asked.
Grey nodded then raised his right hand and said, "Really."
Seeing that Kenzie was already okay, Alexander took the chance and pulled Sabrina out of the room.
She looked at him questioningly and so he answered, "I was bored watching them."
Yeah right. The bored king who does odd things. Only Alexander Grande!
Alexander brought her to the hospital cafeteria, "You stay here, I'll get spoons for this," he said then lifted a paper bag. It was the porridge he just bought earlier. He then pulled out a chair for her. She just nodded to him and sat quietly.
After a few minutes, Alexander came back holding with two spoons and two bottles of fruit juice.
He opened the paper bag and brought out two bowls of chicken porridge. Alexanded handed her a spoon and said, "Here you go."
Sabrina grabbed the spoon and started to eat slowly, "This is really good!" she said then ate a few more.
Alex just smiled and also started to eat his food. He was enjoying himself watching Sabrina enjoy the food he bought for her.
In the middle of the meal, Sabrina suddenly faced Alexander and said,
"Alexander, thank you so much for helping me and my assistant. If you weren't there, I'd definitely won't know what to do. If there's anything I can do to return the favor, please let me know. You've helped me so much even though you don't know me well. Although it was all out of boredom, I still want to pay you back."
"I will court you." he said while looking at her seriously.
Sabrina suddenly choked on her food, she almost spitted out the food from her mouth due to coughing. She grabbed the juice bottle and chugged it down. Alexander then, gave her his handkerchief which she accepted and used it to wipe her mouth.
After fixing herself, she faced Alexander.
"I'm sorry, I was surprised by your sudden words. And also I don't think I can let you do Alex, courting isn't something you should do when you're bored. Although you're free to do it, please not me," she chuckled. Alexander has really weird ways to ease his boredom.
"Who said I was doing it out of boredom? And I wasn't asking for permission, I was informing you," he said then crossed his legs in a cool manner.
