บท 23: Chapter 21: "You Raised Me Up"
~ Sophie's Point of View ~
I was stuck in my position when Yna, Max, and Xian know each other without my knowledge.
How could it be possible?
"Max, tell me! How did you know Sophie and Xian?!"
"Calm down, Yna. You don't have to hear his nasty explanation."
I could not relate what they're talking with. I could not either see their actions and facial expressions.
Perhaps, I'm out of this conversation. So, it would be better if I'll shut my mouth up and say nothing.
"F*ck you! Don't start any trouble in here, jerk!"
I was surprised when Max said those bad words. I know Xian and he met the other day but still, it's not the right terms to say to Xian.
"What are you talking about, Max?! Xian is not a jerk!"
Yna began to act exaggeratedly. However, I can't blame her for doing it so.
"Say everything you want to say. I don't care!"
I sighed deeply and lowered down my head.
I don't want them to fight because of me, and so I butt in their conversation. "Max, please, don't make things worst because of what happened the other day. Please."
"I am sorry, Yna. But if you don't mind, can you please leave us alone. Sophie needs to practice for the upcoming singing competition."
Finally, we're all safe from any fists fight. Max, really followed me to calm down and let Xian go.
"Earlier, you were acting like an irate and disgruntled dragon. But when Sophie told you to stop talking shit, you quickly switched into a vulnerable and helpless chameleon."
I did not expect it to come. Xian has never been this cold, he's never been this rude and uncouthly towards someone.
Yna replied, "What the heck is going on in here?! The three of you were talking about what transpired, the other day. Tell me, what's going on Max!"
"Let's go Yna! Remember that grandma invited us to have lunch with her."
Xian plainly answered and I heard him took a step away. "No! I need to hear it from anyone of you, Xian! Just tell me the truth and we will head to your grandma's mansion, right away."
If she wants, then I'll give what she deserves.
"The day after we talked at the Principal's office, Xian tried to talk to me but Max helped me to run away from him. Yna, I have one word and I don't want to break my promise. I hope, it's evident now to you."
I took a long sigh and praying that this argument will end sooner.
I'm sick of getting bullied, of getting hurt, of getting underestimated by a human as I am.
"I hope so, Sophie."
I felt anguish in her voice. I hope Yna will stop with her anxiety and anticipation because I'm done with it.
"Yna, let's go!" From afar, Xian called Yna like they're in a good and strong relationship.
Well, I'm happy for them both.
"Til' we see each other again, Max. But for now, I need to go!"
By then, the place turned quiet and dreary. Not warm, not cold. As if the aura changed suddenly into deafening and dull energy.
"Max," I uttered.
"Alright! Let's start with our first practice, Ms. Lim." He enthusiastically said.
Max hold my hands and guided me through the stool. I know he's near with me but he's right, I should put my heart to this once in a Blue Moon opportunity.
I prepared myself and took a deep breath. I need an ice breaker before starting it out.
"Hey! What happened to Yna and Xian? They are fighting in the midst of the hallway. Tss. Such a wealthy stubborn!"
I replied weakly. "Where's my food, Kate? I'm too hungry and thirsty."
She burst into a laugh and said, "Of course! I've brought you, your favorite breakfast, Corn Chowder!"
I couldn't stop myself from not smiling. Kate never failed me to feel grateful and thankful because of small efforts like she's doing right now.
"Ohhh! Thank you so much, Kate! I promise, as soon as I claim the first prize, I'll treat you in your favorite Japanese Restaurant."
Kate walked closer to me and put something on my right side. She rubs my back and said, "Max, can we eat first before practicing?"
"No! We're running out of time. Sophie must focus on the practice but, she can drink if she feels thirsty."
"He's right Kate! Don't worry, after this, we will eat all of that!" I replied energetically.
Kate grasp my hands and tapped my shoulders. I know she's standing behind me and watching us.
Max said, "Are you ready?"
I barely shook my head and he uttered out of nowhere. "Nice song, Sophie."
I smiled at him and waited for the signal. Max began to play the piano that gives me goosebumps.
I don't know but it helps me to feel calm. It helps me to rid my sadness and the gloom of life.
"When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;"
This song makes me so emotional but at the same time, it makes me motivated and inspired to move forward.
"Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me."
"Wait! You sang the last two lines in the same melody, Sophie."
"Sorry. Let's do it again, Max."
He plays the piano and I'll do my part.

"That's right! Keep up the rhythm, Sophie!" Max exclaimed.

After the first chorus, he halted from playing with the piano and Kate clapped her hands so boisterous.
"Wooah! What an emotional performance, Sophie! I love it!"
I shyly smiled and replied, "Thank you, but I need more practice to perfect the song, Kate."
"I'm not glad about your performance. It does not mean that your friend praised you, you're good enough. When I'll be back, let's practice again." Max told me.
To be honest, I felt guilty and embarrassed when he said those words to me.
Max suddenly changed, from being a whimsical and satirical type of guy into a serious and strict one.
"What happened to Max, Sophie?"
I shrugged my shoulders and said nothing but a deep and long sigh.
