On a typical working day, Jason spun his highlighter between his fingers with a frown on his face. His eyes were sharp as he spotted one mistake after the next. The document was filled with pen marks and highlights, making him grunt disappointedly.
Hearing his displease, Selina walked up to his desk and knocked on its surface. "What's wrong?"
"Something is terribly wrong." Jason tapped his fingertip on the file.
"Isn't that the file Aaron brought in five minutes ago?" She recognized the color of the folder with plentiful circles and red sticky notes on it. Reading the first line of the document upside down, she already identified at least three mistakes on it.
"Yep. He just came back from vacation. Don't tell me his mind is still on vacation." Jason wondered as he stared at the document with disbelief written all over his face. Ever since Aaron had worked for him, he didn't make more than five mistakes in one file. This was the first time he ever made a page full of errors.
"Uhm, maybe try making him a cup of coffee and sit down for a small talk? It could be the weather, his mood or uh he's sick! Don't get mad. When you get angry, the crease between your brows appears again. You don't look handsome anymore with that extra wrinkle on your face." She tried coaxing him like a child.
"I'll have a chat with him." Jason took a deep breath and rubbed the space between his brows.
A few minutes later, Aaron walked into the office with his head slightly lowered. Selina noticed something off about him today. Normally, he would be in high-spirit and greet her. Today, his mind seemed to be elsewhere.
Handing the document back to Aaron's hands, Jason asked. "Aaron, can you review the document and tell me what is wrong with it?"
"Huh? I checked it three times before handing it to you." He flipped open the file. His arms went from steady to tremble as he saw a page full of minor and major errors. Quickly, he apologized to Jason and promised it would not happen again.
As Jason parted his lips to say something, Selina made a small cough and cleared her throat. Her eyes were glaring at his direction, making him reword everything that was about to come out of his mouth to sound like a bird's morning chirp. "Are you not feeling well? You usually make few to no mistakes on documents like these. If you're not well, you can take the rest of the day off."
He caught a glimpse of Selina bobbing her head as he spoke politely to Aaron. Hearing his words, Aaron was overwhelmed by the boss' behavior. If it was mistakes like these, the employee would've gotten lectured already.
"Uh... About that...I'm not feeling unwell...I'm just..." His words stopped midway and trailed off.
"You're just what?" Selina was waiting for him to finish his sentence, but he never completed it. She hated that feeling when someone is saying something and only tells it halfway. Once he saw Selina's figure sitting with her legs crossed on the couch, his eyes sparked as if he had found a savior!
"Miss- I mean Selina! You're here!" He smiled radiantly out of nowhere.
"Aaron, I've been here. Did you not see me earlier? I was sitting here all along." She facepalmed her forehead as she heard his response. Then, she checked her clothes to make sure she wasn't wearing the same color as the wall or couch in the office. 'How could he not see me?' She wondered.
"Boss! I need to borrow Selina for a little while!" Aaron hurried over to Selina's side, making Jason rush over to block him.
"What do you want from her?" Jason asked.
"It's something personal about her bro- friends." Aaron's lopsided smile froze when he realized something didn't feel right. His eyes rolled from his boss to Selina repeatedly, but he couldn't see anything different.
Selina patted Jason's hand, "Let me talk to him. Maybe I could help him. Is the cafeteria good enough for you?" When she got up from her seat, she felt him tugging her sleeve. Sighing, she pointed to her vinegar jar boyfriend and asked Aaron for permission to bring him along.
At the end, Aaron decided it wouldn't matter whether his boss knew about this incident. As a result, the trio ended up sitting on the couch.
"Okay. So, it all started like this. I...I...." His face flushed as he recalled the incident that happened during his vacation.
At the same time, Michael was eating lunch with Bryan and Alfred when he suddenly sneezed. Bryan passed him a piece of tissue, taking the opportunity to tease him. "Looks like somebody misses you so much that they're talking about you. So, did you encounter someone new when you went on this mission?"
"Hah!" Michael reacted and covered his mouth when he heard Bryan's remark.
The two of them widened their eyes at his weird reaction. Alfred placed the piece of chicken down on his plate and wiped his hands. Leaning his elbow on Michael's shoulder, Alfred asked, "Say what?! Really?! Which girl caught your attention? How come we never heard you talk about females? Damn! How far along did you guys go?!"
Rubbing his thumb across his bottom lip, Michael's lips curved to a mysterious smile. "Who says I'm into woman?" He twists his fork and let the spaghetti circle around it.
"Then what did you guys do? You didn't show your wolf side and gobble the poor man up right? Pfft, so this mission is a success?" Alfred teased as Bryan raised the corners of his lips.
Bryan glanced over at Michael, catching the victory smile on his face. He interrupted their conversation and took a quick guess on who this guy was. "Ahem, is he the guy you mentioned meeting at the party who tripped over your heels? He happened to be Jason's assistant, Aaron. He is also the person who saved Alfred and me during the auction hall. I heard from Selina he was on a two weeks' vacation and just came back."
Michael almost choked in the middle of drinking his lemon water. "Yep. It's him. But I never expected you to have such resources. You're right. We met during my mission. It was a pure coincidence. Hehe."
Alfred raised his brow. "How did you know it was him?"
Raising a finger up from his hand, Bryan explained. "I was texting Selina one time, and Michael was reading over my shoulders. She sent a picture with her, Jason and Aaron to me. Even though Aaron was very far in the background, Michael's attention was all on him. He didn't even care about Selina and Jason dating. As we continued messaging, Michael corrected me saying Aaron wasn't wearing a black suit- it was a navy one."
"But I could have 20/20 vision." Michael sipped his water calmly.
"Yeah, but you've never cared enough to remember what we wear. Can you tell me what colored shirt I wore when we went to pick you up from the airport yesterday?" Bryan questioned with a smirk on his face.
Michael kept his silence before distracting them with a different topic. "Talking about my previous missions, I was caught in a life and death situation. The Snake Nest Group is definitely after our asses."
"What?! What happened?" Alfred and Bryan stood up from the table and stared at him.
"It all started like this...." Michael started telling them about the previous mission.
