บท 42: The Fourteenth Night - Part 1 - Finished a Meal

When the Pentafive heard a loud bang that came from outside, they were all shocked.

Sceke took a glimpse but the wall of water was too thick for him to see through it. Countless refractions of the moonlight made the water translucent towards being completely opaque.

Since it was useless to see through the wall of water, Sceke came up with the idea to look from the entrance.

It was risky since the mindless birds may reach him before he could take the glimpse he wanted.

When he chose to risk it, he was stopped by Hanzee, "Let's just wait.", he said to Sceke.

Sceke sighed, clearly impatient about this, and leaned back to the wall with the other four.

"You're not just the one who was losing patience here.", Veronia added, "Also", her bright blue eyes under her long eyelashes rolled to her left and asked, "How's your grandpa, Little Ye?"

"Unconscious...", Ye buried her face into Old Ze's shirt.

'Thought so.', Veronia thought but didn't dare say so. They all knew that the old man was easily frightened and nervous. Maybe because of his old age, illness, or something about his past but no one truly knew why except for the grandfather-granddaughter pair.

However, even Ye, his own granddaughter didn't know the cause of it.

After a while after the explosion, the three were losing their patience while Ye had fallen asleep due to being tired.

It was quiet outside, although they could hear the wind resumed outside, it was still quiet. They knew Renir was still safe, for now, because the water wall that protected them was still attached to the cave's window.

However, it never stopped them from being worried.

Sceke's feet were tapping on the ground, Hanzee's fingers were doing whatever they were doing, and Veronia's mood was getting sour and sour by the moment.

To cope with the boredom and impatience, Sceke had enough energy to play with his condensed sword, taking many forms.

Hanzee had also enough energy to conjure a fire that made them all warm.

While, Veronia, on the other hand, had fallen asleep due to warmth.

"Sceke"

"Hm?", Sceke indifferently answered.

"Who were you in your past world?"

".... what made you asked that?"

"Nothing"

"...."

"It's okay if you don't want to answer.", Hanzee continued after a while, "I just wonder why we don't ask each other about our past lives."

"Hmn", Sceke smiled, "I don't know, but for me, I know you don't want to know it."

Hanzee looked at him with curious eyes.

"I am a horrible person."

"Was"

"What?", Sceke looked and realized it was not Hanzee that said that word.

"Was", Veronia repeated with her eyes never opened.

"Oh", Sceke made a comforting smile.

In the middle, Hanzee sighed, 'Why don't you two just marry each other?', he felt awkward being between the two.

The silence began and continued for the time being that even Sceke fell asleep. He had gone through a lot.

"Huh?", Old Ze woke up in a panic but seeing his lovely granddaughter sleeping with a peaceful face, he stopped.

Although a part of him resisted his own panic, another part was calmed down by the peacefulness his granddaughter brought.

Old Ze turned his head to see that everyone was asleep.

The refracted moonlight through the wall of water lost its light and soon, it became dark.

The old man with his old heart couldn't help but be anxious about this.

He truly hated himself on this part. In his past life, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him one of the most successful people in the world.

Old Ze could control everything at his whim after succeeding at a young age. After so many years, it was ingrained to him he could predict what goes beyond and manipulate even the background for himself. Everything was in his grasp, until...

His thoughts were interrupted when a sudden light flashed by the window and the sound of spatter abruptly entered his ears.

A man landed in front of him so suddenly that he couldn't avoid waking up his granddaughter from sleeping peacefully.

"Old Ze?", Ye rubbed her eyes and saw her grandfather's face before it disappeared into the darkness.

It was enough to wake up the others who were hypercautious.

Hanzee then immediately conjured a fire at his will.

A flash bright enough to temporarily blind the three pairs of their freshly opened eyes.

"Ugh!", Hanzee himself was blinded by his own doing.

"What is there!", Sceke stood up and congealed his sword from his own energy.

"It's me, Sir Sceke!"

A familiar voice, one that they heard not too long ago calmed them

Sceke slowly opened his eyes and whispered, "Renir?"

"Yes!", Renir enthusiastically shouted.

"You're okay?", Veronia exclaimed.

"Is that bad?", Renir scratched his head.

"Ugh, no, that wasn't what I meant.", Veronia frantically waved her hands.in denial.

"Ahahaha, I was just joking."

"So", Sceke became serious, "How did it go?"

Renir pat his belly and said, "I defeated the Water Sentinel."

Although they didn't know why Renir pats his belly, they ignored it.

Did he really do it?

A feat that nobody had ever achieved?

Nobody rebuked Renir's words and just believed in him.

He came back earlier with unbelievable power then came out again to defend them from the Water Sentinel.

They didn't witness all of that except for the wall of water that until now had protected them from the harsh winds and mindless birds.

"How did you defeat it?", Hanzee asked curiously. As time passed by, the more he respects Renir.

"Hmm, it's a long story.", after all that happened, Renir didn't want to waste time explaining, "And more importantly,

"More importantly?", Hanzee tilted his head. What was more important than learning what could defeat the Water Sentinel?

'Is he really saying the truth? But why would he lie? He is such a good guy to risk his lives for us.', Old Ze thought which everyone had the same one in their head.

But soon, they couldn't believe what Renir said, "...I have to try something to get us out of here."

"Why would we get out of here?", Ye asked.

Although it was a naive question due to her young age, none disagreed with her.

"Ah no,", Renir realized his words could be easily misunderstood so he repeated what he wanted to say, "I meant out of this world and get back to our own."

"Really?", Ye's eyes glittered.

But, on the other hand, Sceke was more in doubt with this than the last time.

However, Renir was just too unbelievable and if it was really true that he defeated the Water Sentinel, then he must've known a way out of this world.

They wished he didn't just give them false hope.

"You know a way?", Sceke asked.

"Yes, it would be to defeat the demon marionette."

"But isn't the demon marionette stronger than the five sentinels combined?", Veronia asked.

Renir nodded, "Yes, even if I can defeat the Water Sentinel, I couldn't hope to defeat the demon marionette, yet"

"Then how?", Veronia realized she was asking a lot of questions when it comes to Renir.

"Well, there is another possible way.", Renir continued, "That is why I said that I will have to try it first."

Sceke became solemn and gave himself a thick face, "Renir, if you could. Can you bring us with you?"

When Sceke asked this question, hearts were palpitating in anxiousness.

What if Renir said no and he really found a way?

"Of course, that's already in my plan."

This gave relief to their clouded minds as they sighed it out.

"But, Sceke", Veronia remembered something, "What about Trisha and her brother?"

Sceke scoffed at himself for forgetting such an important thing.

He looked at Renir and asked, "Actually, I have something to do in this world first. So,", Sceke himself wanted to get out of this hellish world so badly but he couldn't leave the people he promised to help back in the City of Misfortune.

"Is it going to take long? I can wait for you.", Renir suggested.

"No, it's too much to ask for you. I have to bring water creatures first so I have to hunt them first.", Sceke reluctantly shook his head.

"Oh, if you want water creatures, I can give them to you.", Renir kindly waved his hand and numerous splatters sounded as water creatures jumped from the wall of water.

Sceke and the others were frozen on the spot. They have to believe what he says from then on. Hunting five of these water creatures could risk their lives but when they saw Renir just waved his hands and made these treasures rain, it was almost a miracle.

Just a bit more and they could entitle Renir as a miracle maker.

"And, by the way, where will you bring these to?", Renir asked, "Are there still others here?"

"No, at least we know not here.", Sceke said.

"Huh?", Renir made a confused expression, "Then where?"

"In the City of Misfortune.", Hanzee butted in.

"A city? Here in Gantlet?", it was Renir's turn to ask questions with a surprised expression.

Unknowingly, Sceke and the others felt relieved. Maybe because they learned that Renir had shortcomings and is not perfect as they thought so, he was just like them. They felt closer to him.

And now, it was their turn to surprise him with their knowledge.

Outside, the moon rose.
