บท 57: Wife?

Alphar POV:

*The Day Of The Fox Attack*

I dashed through the forest, gently tapping my feet on the branches of trees, then pushing off with even more force as I bolted to Indigo's location. My hair shot behind me and the loud whistling of the air collided into my ears. I was unsure why but when Indigo was in danger a scorching throbbing pain shot through my entire body. It was like something connected me to her in some way, it felt so surreal when I was near her I felt complete but when she was gone it was endless pain, I could faintly feel when she was sad, mad everything and it was confusing. Why did she make me this way? What made me feel so drawn to her?

I made it to a clearing, and my eyes instantly laid upon a gigantic crater, in the centre a massive spiralling dome made of strings of..... blood? The spiralling mass deflected the waves upon waves of water crashed against it only to be deflected by stormy gusts of wind. Thin threads of blood lashed the ground, massive trenches forming under its force. A phantom fox watched nearby, jumping from side to side to avoid the strikes of the blood.

"You over there! What did you do!?" I yelled at the fox. It zipped its head in my direction in surprise. Its moment of carelessness almost cost it a limb from the relentless threads.

"Who are you!?" It yelled back, dodging the threads while it screamed.

"You are in no position to ask me questions!" I narrowed my eyes, side-stepping to avoid a thread.

"I don't know I was fighting and she just suddenly ended up like this!"

I turned back to the dome of blood, squinting my eyes as wind crashed into my face. Through the threads, a fuzzy figure entered my eyes. She was laying limp on the ground with her eyes closed, streams of blood flowing from her body. I clenched my teeth; I had no idea what was going on with her, but I had to help her and that came as my first priority.

"Indigo!" I stood by the edge of the crater, jumping from tree branch to tree branch to avoid the thrashing cords of blood. She didn't move. I called again and again, but there were no signs of her waking up.

"INDIGO! WAKE UP!!" I yelled in a final attempt to wake her. If that didn't work I would risk my life to save her. Her body flinched, and she popped her eyes open. The waves grew even fiercer, foam spewing from the water as they crashed into one another, powered by the fearsome wind. "Indigo Release the dome!" I shouted.

"No, I'll die if I do," A weak, strained voice crept from her mouth, drowning in the sloshing water and raging gales.

"I'll pick you up!" I roared back, fighting against the wind smashing into my lungs.

"How do I know if you'll be fast enough!" she retorted.

"Just trust me!!" I pleaded, just this once she should trust me, I knew she was constantly suspicious of me. "Indigo, I promise you, I will save you in time. Place your trust in me, just for once, I beg of you!"

"Alphar, I...I'll trust you, just this one time. So... don't fail me now," She answered with uncertainty.

"Believe me, I won't," I consoled with a smile. Layer by layer, she peeled the blood of the dome away, the wind calming with each layer. One layer remained to keep the water from crashing into her.

"Indigo, lift the dome, I'll save you," I said when I noticed her wavering. She closed her eyes and removed the last layer. I lunged to her sweeping her in my arms and just before the water came thrashing into us I jumped to the wall of the crater running up the side and standing on a tree branch.

I glanced down at her and gave her a gentle smile, "I told you, you can trust me," A smile bloomed on her face, and her cold lifeless eyes warmed even if just for a second. It entered my eyes. It was the first time seeing her smile so genuinely. My heart pumped in my chest as I stared at her.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"That's what friends are for, right?" I smiled again and turned to look at the white fox, my expression darkening. A suffocating force rippled off me, dripping with blood lust. "Baby fox, how dare you lay your filthy paw on my precious friend," I stared at the fox who lowered its face to the ground, trembling.

"Indigo, you can rest now," I looked back to Indigo and smiled, smoothing her hair that was poking into the air. Probably realizing just how much pain she was in her entire body jittered in my arms as she fainted.

I poked her soft cushion-like cheek with a finger, watching as it sunk into her flesh and bounced back out when I pulled it out. Any normal person would have died from the wounds she had, but not only did she not die, but she also held her ground with the Phantom Fox for more than an hour. She was far from weak, and her pain tolerance and endurance were admirable. Just what did she go through to become this way? As these thoughts whirled in my head the angrier I became at this insolent fox. Who gave it the gall?

I looked to the fox, walking towards it slowly. The closer I got, the more it trembled. "This grandmaster! Forgive this servant!!" it pressed its head even lower to the ground directly, smashing the ground below it as it shoved its head into the crater it created.

"Why should I? You almost killed someone precious to me," I smirked. The gentle persona I had when I was around Indigo all but disappeared, a cold, tyrannical force radiating from me. My round pupils elongating, appearing like those of a viper.

"Please, I didn't know you were acquainted!" it begged

"And? You live, you learn," I raised a brow. I raised a hand; the fox rose from the ground with my hand movements, I brought it back down, the fox crushed into the ground. Dust clouds and rocks flew in all directions, I pulled Indigo's head into my lapels blocking her from the debris. Once the cloud settled an enormous crater remained in the rocks, the fox laid in it still bowing, covered in dried blood and brown dirt.

"I beg for your forgiveness," A strained voice travelled from its mouth.

"Too bad, if it was Indigo, she wouldn't forgive you and I am taking revenge on her behalf. If you wish to be forgiven beg my friend, unfortunately, she's unconscious because of some fox's retarded actions," I laughed, bringing my hand up again even higher than before and bringing it back down smashing the fox into the ground making the already enormous crater even larger. "How high can you go before you die, I wonder?"

"Wait, please, please!! Mercy!!"

"Why should I?" I smashed it into the ground again.

"I-I..." I smashed it into the ground two more times, each higher than the next.

"Better hurry and state your case,"

"I..I CAN BE A SLAVE FOR YOUR WIFE!!" My movements stopped, and I stared at the fox.

"What do you mean wife, she's a friend, a precious one at that,"

"Ahaha, the grandmaster is so almighty why wouldn't that girl want to marry you," My eyebrow twitched and I slammed the fox into the ground again making it howl out in pain.

"Don't speak as if Indigo is a someone who would only marry for power," I felt a blood vessel about to burst at the fox's insolence.

"Ah- right, of course, she wouldn't!" The fox said frantically, "Wouldn't it be better to make me work for your friend and slave away for her than kill me then toss me away whenever she sees fit?"

I tapped my chin in contemplation "That's not a bad idea," The fox's eyes brightened with hope "But, you must listen to whatever she says, if she gets into a life-threatening situation you must risk your life to save her," the fox quickly nodded.

I nodded in satisfaction, stopping it from falling in mid-air before placing it softly on the ground. "She's too injured to form a contract with you now, so wait," The fox hurriedly nodded, "My name is Alphar," I said.

"Yes, Master Alphar," the fox bowed again,

"Just call me Alphar, you're master is going to be Indigo," I turned away from it and made my way back to the waterfall with the fox trailing behind me.
