บท 8: It's blooming. What? That time will say.
As agreed upon, Autumn woke up at 5 in the morning and pulled Merin up. The previous night as Autumn reached back dorm, Merin was already in bed. Autumn decided not to discuss the conversation with Merin at all.
In half an hour, they reached the riverside. There were a couple of people already doing their morning regimen. Autumn did a small stretching up exercise and guided Merin to do so. After that Autumn started jogging is a slow pace as Merin is more used to walking than running.
For Merin's benefit and Autumn herself prefers interval running rather than full stretch run of 3 miles. Charles had told her that it is the most safest method to ensure zero injury.
Merin joined Autumn for nearly 1k and then she started dragging. Autumn tried to keep her motivated. But Merin's interval for walking was getting longer than run. Autumn suggested running in self pace such that both of them stay in vicinity but do at differed pace.
Even though Merin took effort to join Autumn, she seriously lacked the pace. "can we join you?" , Merin was in her mid pace when she heard this and she twisted her ankle and fell down when she heard this. Immediately, Autumn and the boys were near her.
Chris scooped her up and took her to a bench nearby. Merin had pain on her right ankle but there was not much swelling on it. Autumn said they can take her to infirmary to check. Merin insisted that she was fine and asked Autumn to continue. But all three of them insisted Merin at least return to their room to rest in case her ankle worsens.
When she put her weight on the right leg, she squirmed. Seeing this, Chris again scooped her up. Autumn passed a glance at James and led the way to their room.
Once settling in her bed, Chris got a phone call and had to go out. Merin insisted that Autumn finish her regular run and come back for breakfast. Autumn and James left the room and found Chris just finishing off the phone call.
"You are leaving? How's she now?" .Chris asked. " She seems okay. She said she will sleep off for some time. ", Autumn said. Then James added: " So we are going for a run. Want to join us?"
Chris looked at them for a moment as if unsure of decision and then looked at the door. He said, "Let me talk to Merin, if she needs anything and then I will join you guys. I'm also expecting another phone call, so I might take some time. Don't wait for me. You guys carry on"
James nodded in agreement and turned along with Autumn to go for a run. Once they both have moved on, Chris turned towards door.
As they walk a distance, Autumn asks "What if she needs off her leg for some time. We have a week before the class but hope she will be okay. It was my fault. I shouldn't have insisted for her to run. "
James said, "Stop accusing yourself. Merin is a big girl. she can make her own decisions. She chose to run. You did not force her. Did you?"
Autumn was not convinced though. She said:"Still... Oh! Let me check what she needs for breakfast. So, maybe I can get something from cafeteria for breakfast. so she don't have to walk all the way down. I will come back soon. Wait for me please." Autumn ran up to their room.
Autumn slowly opened the door and what she saw made her blush to the tip of her hairs. Chris was lying on the bed and Merin was on top of him. She had her hands in his hair as if keeping his head in her preferred position and she was kissing him. His hands were roaming around her body. Squeezing her waist and cupping her bottom, pressing her to his body.
Autumn immediately closed the door. She stood there with her eyes wide open and blushing badly. She went down and found James leaning near the pillar. He came near when he saw her. Autumn should still be blushing that she saw James looking at her curiously.
"What happened?" asked him. Autumn opened her mouth and closed it and again tried as if she couldn't find words to talk. James took her shoulders and shook her. "What happened Autumn? Why are you looking so?"
"I guess they are already hungry", she said in a low voice as she turned scarlet again. James furrowed his brows and said a "Huh? ", then waited a moment and asked "They?" and then said "oh " as if understanding dawning on him. Then he chuckled. "I guess you saw something Ms. Luiz? Something more than your sensibilities can take? Serves you right to interrupt the love birds."
Autumn blushed and swatted his hands. "How am I to know that they are love birds now? Last I knew they had some kind of fallout and Merin was saying sorry. How do I know they will be having a free show for me in the room?"
"Free show? What did you see? You naughty" asked James wagging the index finger.
Autumn turned red again. "I didn't see anything. They were just kissing. But.. but.. they were in the bed."
"Oh Autumn, that's just old news. so catch up." said James teasingly.
Autumn looked up to James confusingly. "Huh?"
James laughed and said,"Guess you didn't talk to Merin yesterday night. did you?"
" No. By the time I reached room, she was sleeping. Or already she was in bed. I thought she was sleeping. ", said Autumn.
"And you are a deep sleeper I guess?" James asked.
"Not always. But yesterday I was damn tired. I slept as I hit the bed and woke up when alarm rang. What does that has to do with this? " asked Autumn.
"James, stop talking in riddles and tell me what it is. ", said Autumn a bit irritated.
James smiled and said, "When I reached my room, Chris was there with a silly smile. Then itself I realised there would have been an understanding between them. First I thought maybe they might have compromised and maybe some kissing. But whatever happened left Chris hungry for more that he sneaked out and came to your room in the middle of the night for a "mid night snack" .
Autumn got alarmed. "My room, at night? But we don't have snacks inside. And what if he got caught? What was he thinking? Or are YOU pulling my leg? You are making that up right"
James looked at Autumn curiously and said, " Are you really this naive Autumn? " He then looked on either sides and leaned in towards her trapping her near the wall. And said. "He came yesterday night , called Merin out from the room and they "made out" for around quarter of an hour. They might have taken it longer but they were moving into petting each other, oh man , situation was getting hotter. And I didn't want to get caught near girls dorm room. Hence I had to pull the them out. "
Then he stepped away from a shocked and blushed Autumn. " So now you are updated as I am. Now tell me what exactly did you see."
Autumn blushed and said" I told you na, just kissing I didn't stay to see anything else. Like Merin was lying above Chris. That's all." She averted eyes.
"You are so cute. Do you know that?" said James adoringly.
Autumn hesistantly looked at James and said: " James, we decide that we keep our relationship platonic. You remember that. right?"
James looked at her quietly for some time and said " Let's sit on this bench for some time ".
He remained quiet for sometime. As they sat there Autumn wondered how the relationship is progressing. Autumn was about to interrupt his thought, then all on a sudden he said. " She was like you , you know. " He then looked at her and said." Emilia, my Lia. She was younger to me by 6 years. But from the moment she was born, she filled our life's with cheerfulness. Whatever happens and how much ever toss she was with our parents, she would instantly obey what I would say. She was the spirit of my life, you know".
Autumn found tears filling his eyes. He leaned back with his eyes closed. She didn't know what to say. she hugged his right biceps.
James opened his eyes and said. "Now I got her back, through you. " He looked into Autumn adoringly. " Do you need further explanation how my relationship is with you ?"
Now Autumn's eyes teared up. And James took her into his arms.
That's how Chris and Merin finds them . "Oh really, is this your version of jogging?"
