บท 92: Lonestone
Ulric led in the grass for a while, although he was fine now the pain he had endured while fighting that monster was still lingering in his mind, he was surprised how he managed to keep focused and fighting despite the pain, but most of the time he just stared at the clouds not really thinking at all.
Eventually he sat up and opened the reward he had gotten, it listed the quest parts he had completed:
Orchard saved, reward: 5000 karma
Rotted Elemental slain (solo bonus): 35000 karma
Spirits saved: 5000 gold
Spirits separated (epic difficulty): 20000 gold, seed of bounty
Wow what a haul! he had heard that hidden quest rewards were much more generous than normal but wow, then he noticed the tags solo and epic difficulty and realized this was a group quest! no wonder it had been so rough and painful, a single player would normally have no chance, the only reason he had completed it was his extraction ability, he began to feel a bit frustrated if he could do this with the restrictions he was under what would he be capable of if her could use weapons and armor? he knew he could use them but they were sealed at the moment, he needed to progress his quest-line, luckily this had provided him with nearly half of what he needed, it was time to do more and gather more karma, he dropped the gold into his housing token and headed back to town.
First thing he did was go and check on the farmer, the poor man had seen his orchard turn into a rot monster and start a rampage it was no wonder he ran away, it didn't take him long to find him as he was trying to get the guards to go and help Ulric, there were about 3 guards getting equipped when Ulric walked up,
"A a adventurer?! you're ok!!?? i was convinced that monster," he began,
"it's ok, it was a hard fight but i managed to kill the rotten thing," Ulric said heroically, "I am just glad i had some strong healing potions on me, it really messed me up," he continued,
one of the guards spoke up, "it's true then? there was some sort of slime beast?"
"Oh yes nasty thing, it smelled worse than it looked," Ulric confirmed,
"I'll do a reconnaissance sir," another guard said before hurrying off,
Ulric introduced himself to the guards and the farmer properly, and told them about the fight, the guards were a little skeptical until the scout returned, he was white with fear as he described the devastation of the orchard and the site of the last fight, a few of the other guards went to take a look as well and soon Ulric became a local hero, especially among the guards who were unsure they could have fought the thing off.
Over the next few hours Ulric looked around the town more thoroughly than he had before, there were no more players here now, it seemed this town couldn't offer them the rewards they wanted, but it looked like a nice break to Ulric, people wanted trees cut down and lumber moved, mining done and ore hauled, simple jobs that didn't involve wading arm deep in pain, horror and stink seemed to be just what he wanted, he looked at the sing with the town's name because he didn't know it, Lonestone, seemed a fitting name for this tiny town far away from the main cities.
