บท 19: A New Rig
Stepping out of the Spa, Paul looked up at the clear blue sky like god had cleared the clouds just for him, he walked around for a while until he found the shop holding his new rig, a giant tech sales firm called 'Your Local Dive' Paul loved the name, he pushed open the doors and went in, as he browsed the shelves looking at all the games, retro ones, new ones, Indie ones, he remembered how he got his capsule, after the accident and he was brought home, he found some of his workmates, like him they were new starters with not much money, they had come together and brought what kit the could scrounge and built him a monstrosity of a capsule, although the thing barely had the power to run another world on it's lowest settings, he never forgot the feeling seeing his friends band together to help him out, of course he had lost contact with them 2 years is a long time and they were working and probably had families by now, he shook his head bringing himself back to the present, time to get what he came for.
Paul walked up to the counter and waited, the employee was on her knees pulling game boxes out and organizing them, on the back of her neck visible under her hair was a neural rig, most people had one type or another these days, this one was triangular and highlighted with a tattoo turning it into a star of David, a pretty good design, it was then she glanced up and noticed him,
"Oh sorry, didn't hear you approach," she stood "can i help you?"
"yes i have a reservation to pick up", he offered his hand, and she looked confused, "old banking chip," he explained,
"oh! um hang on," she rummaged through the draws "Ah! here you are,"
she scanned the chip and plugged the scanner into the nearby desktop slot, and then began moving her hands around, "hmm ok" she went out the back and came back with a small safe inside was a small device about half the size of a pen,
"would you like to install it here?"
he nodded "please"
"i am required to tell you it may sting," she informed him
"Sting as in sting or as in what a doctor says?"
she chuckled "Doctor, sorry"
"go ahead i'll grit my teeth,"
she walked around behind him, he felt something cold against his neck, ZING! "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!"

He spent 30 seconds hopping around swearing, while the girl tried not to laugh,
"Sting my ass, wow that hurt," he said rubbing his neck, "wait i can't feel anything?"
"oh 'The Jump Alpha' is a nano-tech rig, it fastens to your brain stem rather than just connecting, didn't you know? you ordered it"
"oh, i saw it was the latest and the same price as the previous one so i figured why not?"
"OH you managed to get the offer? wow lucky it sold out in seconds,"
"yeah i feel real lucky" still rubbing his neck
"ok i'll activate it now and do the set up for you, with Max security as you ordered, i'll also install your copy of Another World, oh did you know your subscription has expired? i can renew that for you, would you like to pay for it or use your gold balance?"
"I can use gold for that? yes please"
"Yes you can, and done! please be aware that when using a full dive game your body will be placed in a state of sleep paralysis so please be seated or lying and comfortable when diving,"
"oh ok thank you,"
After the set up was done Paul spent about half an hour just getting the hang of using it, pulling up websites, connecting to payments ect. it was surprisingly easy to use all he basically had to do was think it and it would happen, he then headed to the bank, time to set up the last part of his new life.
