บท 267: Where have you been?
Yu Chen peered behind Xi Hua at Huo Zenghai, who looked very worried after hearing Hua exclaim. "Hey, do you know where Xia is?" she asked.
Huo Zenghai blinked in confusion and Xi Hua was surprised, "You didn't find Xia? Where have you been the whole time?!?"
Yu Chen blinked and looked surprised, as though she had just noticed that Xi Hua was there. She said, "Nowhere in particular. I just walked around a bit."
Huo Zenghai said as he helped Chen onto the sofa, "God Chen!! You're freezing! You look deathly pale. Are you fine?"
"Of course she's not fine. Just look at her!!!" Hua exclaimed as she elbowed Zenghai put of the way and wrapped a big blanket around Chen.
Yu Chen smiled gratefully at her before mouthing to Zenghai, "Call him please."
Huo Zenghai opened his mouth to say something, but thought better and pulled out his phone.
Yu Chen stared at him worriedly as Zenghai dialled and Hua hovered over Chen with a worried expression.
Zenghai's expression told Chen when the call connected. He said, "Xia? Where are you man?"
Yu Chen waited, her insides twisting with nervousness as Xia answered Zenghai.
Huo Zenghai listened, his brows furrowed. He looked at Chen and opened his mouth, but before he could say anything Yu Chen shook her head.
He had picked up Zenghai's call immediately. So he did not want to talk to her, that much was clear. And Chen did not want to use Zenghai to talk to Xia. It was their problem, and they would sort it out themselves.
Zenghai was silent for a moment before he spoke, "Yeah no. Nothing important. We were all thinking of having dinner together. We haven't gotten together for a while so..."
Zenghai stopped, probably cut off by Xia.
He sounded dejected, "Yeah sure man, I understand. Well, see you Monday. Hey!!?! What the!?!?!?!?...."
Zenghai exclaimed as Hua pried away the phone from his hands and yelled into it, "Xia!? Where the hell are you!?!?..."
She frowned, looked at the phone and tossed it onto the sofa with a disgusted look.
"He cut the call as soon as I spoke." She muttered and sat down hugging Yu Chen, who looked with anticipation at Huo Zenghai, and asked, "What did he say?"
Zenghai sighed and sat down on the table in front of the sofa, "Xia said he had a meeting today and was still busy with it. He wouldn't be able to make it to dinner. He told us to enjoy ourselves."
Xi Hua scoffed and Yu Chen sighed. Of course!! He was busy. He had not picked up her call because he was busy. And he had only answered Zenghai because he might have been calling with something related to the company. Chen tried to reassure herself.
But what about all those calls? He should have been a bit worried seeing the number of missed calls, shouldn't he? Did Xia really not want to talk to her? A small voice whispered in her head.
Chen shook her head and pushed these thoughts away, repeating to herself the assurances she had thought.
