บท 113: Emotional Mr. and Mrs. Mo
The gardener was annoyed upon being disturbed from his work, but when he looked in the direction the maid pointed to, his mouth fell open.
He urgently whispered, "Get the madam. Go. Now."
Five minutes later, the maid came rushing back with Mrs. Mo beside her, who was still in her nightdress. As soon as she reached, the gardener bowed and pointed towards the bench. Mrs. Mo looked there.
At first, she was alarmed. "What is this? Is it a homeless man sleeping on the bench?" she asked.
The gardener responded, "We do not know madam."
Mrs. Mo carefully walked towards the bench with the maid and gardener in her heels. As she turned to look at the face of the person who was on their bench, and Mrs. Mo's face broke into a smile.
There, on the bench, were Si Xia, Yu Chen and Mo Kio, sleeping, bundled up in a blanket. Yu Chen was huddled up in the middle, with Si Xia hugging her and Mo Kio hugging both of them. Inspite of there uncomfortable positions, the three kids had smiles on their faces.
Mrs. Mo looked at them for a minute before stroking their heads and then turning around. She said, "They are not to be distributed. Let them sleep. They seem to need each other for a sense of security."
She then left, leaving behind a very confused maid and gardener, who carried on with their work.
After ten minutes, as they were almost done with their work, they saw Mrs. Mo coming towards them again. And following her, with a very puzzled and sleepy look on his face, Mr. Mo.
As the couple reached to the servants, they bowed. Mrs. Mo waved her hand and dismissed them. Then she pulled Mr. Mo towards the bench where the three kids were sleeping. Mr. Mo had the same reaction as his wife, if not more emotional. Mr. Mo stared at the three kids for a while before he turned and left. Mrs. Mo was dumbfounded. What happened? She hurriedly followed her husband into their room, where she saw Mr. Mo sitting on the bed with a photograph in his hand, tears flowing down from his eyes.
Mrs. Mo knew that her husband did not like to show any weakness in front of others, so she silently closed the door and went for a walk. She had gotten up in the wee hours of the morning, and was not sleepy anymore, so might as well utilise it.
Yu Chen woke up when the sun was shining on their faces and there were little beads of sweat on her face due to the blanket and the closeness. She blinked twice and tried to sit up, still sleepy. But she could not get up, she felt something pulling her down as she tried to move. Yu Chen opened her eyes properly and her face went bright red upon seeing her position. On her right side, Si Xia was hugging her as though she was his property. On her left, Mo Kio had his hands around both of them. Yu Chen let out a small shriek and immediately jumped up from the bench. This woke up the two boys who rubbed their eyes and smiled at Chen.
