บท 66: Ready? Steady. Code!!!
"This round will be a live coding competition. You all have a topic on which you have to write a code. It's actually the same. You all have to write a code for a website of online ne food delivery. In this round, we will only see your speed. But make no mistake, because your code will be checked, in the next round. Now Mr. Su Yan will tell you about the points."
The old man stood up, "He must be Su Yan." Chen thought.
Mr. Su spoke, in a domineering voice, "In this round, you will all be awarded 75 points in the beginning. Yes, you will be awarded even before you do anything. Now remember, this round will not end until all of you have finished coding. And don't assume you can not write anything and keep the points. You will have to write the code."
"After the first person finishes, two points will be taken for each five minutes you take to complete your code. So it's actually relative." he added, looking at each and every on of their faces.
Mr. Zhen stood up, "I believe you all understand everything. Any questions?"
A girl at the very back of the room raised her hand. Mr. Zhen nodded, "Yes?"
"What if we take more time than 75 points?" she asked.
Mr. Zhen: "Then your team points from the previous round will be deducted. Two points for every five minutes."
The girl nodded and sat down.
Lu Jim stood up rubbing his hands, "All ready?"
Mo Kio pulled off Yu Chen's cap who was looking at the foreign judge, trying to figure out who he looked like. He put it on her head backwards and said, "Focus."
Yu Chen nodded and reached her hand to turn the cap, but Kio cut in, "Don't. It suits you better."
Yu Chen smiled as Lu Jim announced, "Let the second round begin. Ready? Code."
So they all started, with Yu Chen dictating the code and Mo Kio typing with all his might. The topic was actually tough. Many times Yu Chen had to stop to think the best way to do one thing or another. During these times Mo Kio looked around the room to see many of the teams not typing. They all seemed to be stuck on one thing or another. Even 'the geeky guys' seemed to be facing a lot of problems. Only the tall boy seemed to be typing furiously, sometimes only stopping to stare at the screen for a second or two before typing again. His teammate, Zach was sitting and waiting intently staring at his code, sometimes pointing out a mistake or two.
There was a sudden tap on Mo Kio's head. Yu Chen had thought about the problem and had started muttering code again.
There were other times when Kio received a tap on his head for making any mistake.
After about Forty minutes, Yu Chen stopped. Mo Kio looked at her. She was holding her head now and was muttering, "Shit shit shit shit...."
Mo Kio held her and shook her. "Chen? CHEN?!?!?! What's wrong?"
Yu Chen looked at him, "I messes up."
