บท 5: The party
Yu Chen snapped out of her thoughts as Xi Hua shook her. The guests had started to arrive, and they needed to welcome them.
"I wonder where your mind runs off too when you stand in a trance like that. You do it a little too much don't you?" said Xi Hua as she checked her make-up. "By the way, why are you wearing so less make-up, aren't you afraid that you will not look as beautiful as others. Not that it's a concern for you anyway, you are, like the, prettiest person in the room."
This was just the typical Hua, talking and talking always.
Yu Chen did not answer her as they rushed off to greet the guests. "How great would it have been if I had befriended Hua during high school, she was in the same class as me. But I was just completely blind to become friends with that witch." thought Yu Chen.
All the guests started arriving. Yu Chen and Xi Hua greeted them all with a polite smile. Most of the men stared at Chen's beauty and could not take their eyes off her, and most women looked at Chen with a mixture of jealousy and admiration.
"Just look at that Yu Chen. I mean, how can a person be so beautiful without even knowing it." "I know right! She looks just like a fairy out of a book, how I wish to dress her up like a doll, how pretty would she look.!!!"
This was a conversation that Xi Hua heard when she went to get drinks for Chen and herself.
Xi Hua: "Oh goddess, precious sensei. Just what is your secret? How do you do it?"
Yu Chen: "Do what?"
Xi Hua: "Be so beautiful and still not make other ladies jealous. They were even praising you!!"
Yu Chen: "Well I guess it's probably because I don't pose a threat to them. Maybe it's my personality or maybe my loneliness. Well I guess the real reason I don't pose a threat to any woman out here is because..."
Xi Hua: "Because!?!?!?!?!?!"
"Because I'm still in love with him." sighed Yu Chen inwardly. "Let's not waste any more time chatting. Mr. and Mrs. Si would be coming any minute now."
Xi Hua noticed that Chen's eyes had immense sadness in them so she did not press the matter further.
Meanwhile....
On the other side of the city.
Si Xia had gotten dressed in a stunning black suit which complemented his dark black eyes. He combed his light brown hai back which gave him the look of an undefeatable king. Finally, he pinned a small, green leaf shaped brooch to his left breast pocket and looked at it lovingly. "Yes, green was still his favourite colour. He had told her that but had never been able to tell her the reason of liking that colour." Si Xia shook his head.
No. He was a married man, with a baby on the way, he must not think of other women. But he couldn't help but touch the brooch again.
Just then his wife entered.
