บท 47: bonus chapter: fairytale puppet
"miss Mei, mind if I relay the message to the military?"
"Erica... sure, I don't have any problems with it"
I finally finished completing step one of the blueprints and there's only 5 more to go... thankfully, I'll both have Liliya and Naoya in the field for that, Ingrid and Arie are both fine but I can't let Ingrid in the field with the mask this unstable... losing a mana crystal just for him is expensive enough and we can't waste any more than that...
"haahhh... what do I do..."
I look outside and see the whole platoon training with each other in groups... I guess we really don't need to be here to be exact... why don't I put them in the field too?
"Karen, mind relaying a message to each temporary leaders?"
"a-ahh! miss Mei! of course!"
she trots to the soldiers as soon as I said my final statement, she's quite hardworking for a child... well... I shouldn't really compare my age to hers
"ahh... miss Mei, how are you today?"
"sir Wells, it's nice to meet you? I'm fine, thanks. anyway, how's your child doing? I heard she's a great asset for the ships here"
Wells and his youngest daughter Feyli commands the air and the seas of this world, for us anyway. they're both quite knowledgeable when it comes to the wind direction and I couldn't ask more for them
"it's nice having someone to protect huh? you have your own apprentice that will succeed you immediately..."
"oh, please miss Mei, that's not everything from that story"
he's lushly smiling just from one compliment... well, I wouldn't mind it from him, he looks old enough that he'd be able to kill a hydra, but humans aren't capable of doing that, what's prominent in the human race is their skills in hobbies and casual jobs. the grand overhaul was something Kirin made in the disposable database
"my daughter is the only one succeeding me, her brothers are quite dense to dream of surpassing the two demons"
"it's fine to dream every now and then, as long as they can have fun"
her daughter is around 19 years old for a human... to us Fallen, it would've been 70 years just to look that old but it's our half immortality behind it
she's quite energetic yet shy, her mother died a year after her birth which resulted in their disperse. her older siblings were taking in jobs just to support themselves and Feyli. Wells is enough to support the two of them but they can't improve their own life if the father is the only one supporting them...
"hey... sir Wells, didn't found a story from this world a while ago? mind sending me the translated book?"
"of course miss Mei, anything for you"
he bows and heads back to the port with her daughter... that story... I was interested about it the first time aI read it...

queen's a little bit too much... I've heard stories about me being a queen of a fairy tale multiple times, I was quite surprised that it was accepted by the human race...

half a day passes without any problems and I finished the skeleton quicker than I expected
"limbs... check, body... clean and perfect. what's troubling is the head... I finished it but it will be replaced and rebuffered for finalizations..."

she drops the box full of Ether crystals... with that loud bang from dropping it-

her eyes... it... reacted...
"miss... Mei? you alright?"
"this... shouldn't be possible right now... it might be something... yeah..."
"umm... miss Mei? you alright?"
"I'm fine Karen... you're free for today, dismissed"
with a confused look, she leaves the room
"how... no... that must be me hallucinating... that's... are... you alive?"
. . . no response...
"yeah... expected much..."
there were no Ether supply nor do I have any information if she can actually move according to her will

with a hole where her heart is supposed to be, I input the remaining program in the memory crystal and safely implant it...
"with this... this should all be de finished... at least... I hope so..."

"I can't say I didn't expect that... there's no supp-"
her... limbs stuttered... her eyes open when my hand was inside her
"ana!"
I caught her just at the right moment, she's still incomplete... her limbs aren't properly connected, probably not the best idea to put her in an Ether string...
"your... eyes aren't connected... you probably can't see me right now. please wait for me for a second"
her eyes... her eyes... ahh, here...
"Please hold still, open your eyes as wide as you can. this might be uncomfortable but please bear with it"

"just... there we go, everything fine now? please follow my finger"
I waved my hand slowly and she seems to be following. both eyes works fine
"Alright then, I haven't fixed your voice but you should be able to understand. why don't you open your mouth? can you do that?"
her lips is somewhat similar to wood, I already took into account that using hinges and nonmoving materials for it would make her too much of a robotic so I grew fallen wood in advance. Fallen wood can move human-like since it's neither flora nor Fauna, it's its own being which needs to be researched further. the only thing I know about Fallen wood is that it's like a human but not, it's neither a plant since it doesn't photosynthesis like any plants normally.
besides the information, her mouth can move like a human, her face is tough and rough like wood is but thanks to the Fallen wood I had, she seems more of a human than a puppet, although, I didn't have that of and abundance of it, her limbs and joints are different segments, I can only afford to properly fix her face...
"I'll do some maintenance once we return to our world alright?"
no response, her memory is still that of a child, I can't expect her to react the way a normal teen will

here walking is still stutter but she'll need to bear with it, not everyone will be able to stand once they were born
"there, do some movements and just get used to it and you'll be fine in under 30 minutes"
I entertained her in the meanwhile, teaching her and practicing with her, she's quite clumsy too, I guess her personality is already taking shape?

I sit down and finally work on her vocal box. I'll need to implant it on her neck but... I can't disrupt her practice...
"Probably best to make a copy of her neck huh..."
I did just that and integrated it inside her replacement neck segment
"come here for a second, this might feel uncomfortable but please bear with it"
she steadily walks towards me and sat down as if she collapsed
"A-Ana! are you alright!?"
she seems fine... haahh...
"don't scare me like that... c'mon, stand..."
"yes, there we go, now sit on my lap, face forward where I'm facing"
she does what I say, she's quite obedient
with that, I properly circulate my Ether veins to her so that she doesn't fully collapse, although I make the head segment weaker so I could properly replace it
"there we go... just... sit... there! you're alright right?"
"mm"
she nodded and hummed at the same time...
"that's... great... good, now next up... nothing?... I guess you're finished... you're quite easier than Fenrir and Risa huh? well... you're quite easy to make considering that you need Ether to support yourself..."
she walks everywhere in the camp and somehow tumbling over the equipment

"I-I'm fine, sorry to disturb you all but I'll make an introduction in under 10 minutes, please gather everyone here right now"
"yes ma'am but... what about the other three?"
"they'll know once they return, alright then, gather everyone here please"

he leaves and I finally recovered her...
"haahhh... clumsy huh... it would've helped if you were organized..."

I took a glance at where she was pointing at and there is indeed a bird... it's an owl I believe.
it flew over where Analisse is and it seems to take a liking to her

I prepared for the introduction and head outside where the soldiers were already positioned

「quite a surprise... why is she even naked?... she's made of wood but there's still a need to clothe them」
"like one of you pointed out, yes, she's still naked so she'll need some clothing, I'd like to ask all of you to give her some since I can't use my own clothing, if someone's up to it then your contributions will be returned shortly after"
I didn't really need to explain any further since they would just follow a higherup's orders no matter what but handing them a reward is something unusual... even for me...
"miss Mei... I'm afraid that this won't do..."

「I can't imagine what's on your mind right now but since it's your orders then I might as well, I'll inform Ingrid after this, and I might take longer than expected. I think Osiria is fine with herself right now when Ingrid's around but it's still better for Rin to be with her, is that alright?」
"yeah, I can organize here a bit, thanks. just inform me if you found someone that could help"
「roger, signing out」
"Miss Mei, never imagined you going all out for only one person, this isn't quite like you except when it comes to both Liliya and Naoya, is she some sort of your child?"
"haahhh... this might be embarrassing to say but yeah... I was... quite jealous to see some people having apprentices like their child...
"the world's going to collapse, miss Mei has changed!"
"stop it Erica... it's..."
"I won't stop of course, just think of it as some sort of a friendly jab if you'd say, the Mei that we knew from the past is ignorant, selfish yet kind, and calm. The you right now is almost exactly the opposite so seeing you all flustered like a little girl who saw her boyfriend in a street is something of a fun way to annoy you"
"if you annoy me any further then I'll send you Fenris' Chambers"
"p-please anything but that... I won't do it again"
"that's much better, now then. time to organize my schedule. I need to do some maintenance for her..."
right... maintenance... this would just take a few hours or so...
(for a few reference points on the last side chapter, Mei was doing perfect Maintenance IOW 24/7 work for Analisse, Rin was still a few or fewer weeks searching for the items Mei asked which then resulted in Mei's complete exhaustion)

Kirin_Aiha My father said that If I don't do my online exam in the near future, he'll take my laptop which I'm always using it for playing games and writing light novels like this, little does he know that I'm currently in depression right now and taking something that I love doing will only further push me. well... it's not like it's the end of the world for them, only for me, but I digress.
thank you for reading this, if I don't publish any more so then either I died from a suicide or my internet and/or laptop was taken and I'm attempting it right now!
(and I don't want to hear any shit about it, I've been trying to cope with this for 4 or 5 years which is still quite short, I still have a lot of time to do stuff)
