By the time morning arrived in full only one Dryad with her two Treant guards remained. The fire had burned down to ashes at this point, and Hawk was still peacefully floating in the pond.
"Mother, look after us. I can feel so many conflicting emotions from this Magus, He will either bring great aid or great harm. May he choose the light, if he chooses the dark I have the feeling none of us will survive." Willow quietly prayed to the Forest before slowly faded away. The Treants turned and silently walked back through the trees, the trees even bending out of their way.
Without knowing anyone was ever there, Hawk was once again left alone.

I slowly woke up, groaning in protest at what I just went through. That was beyond description, it was almost nothing like what the book described. Something felt off though, physically I felt great, but it felt like I was floating. My eyes shot open, and my corneas and brain screamed in protest as the light stabbed into my eyes.
I tried to roll over in pain but ended up underwater, water trying to sneak its way up my nose and into my mouth. I jerked to a standing position; the water wasn't too deep. Coughing out the water I forced my eyes open. The world was much brighter than usual, and the colors seemed more vibrant and alive to my senses.
Just my senses alone dumbfounded me, and the more I got used to it the more confused I became. The forest looked like it went through a complete transformation overnight, it was bursting with new growth. For a minute it made me completely forget the fact that I almost drowned a few seconds ago.
When my mind started to work again I found myself standing in the middle of the pond. "Why am I wet?! How did I end up in the water? What the hell is going on?!?!?" I screamed out loud. Obviously I received no answers to these questions. I started to make my way out of the water towards my makeshift campsite. My wet clothes were dragging me down, they were completely waterlogged. 'Seriously, what the hell happened to me?' I thought to myself as my mood soured.
My mood definitely got worse when I tried to climb onto the bank of the pond, slipped in some mud and ended up falling face first back into the water. Cursing to myself I dragged myself out of the water, and walked back to where I had my camp fire built. My boots squishing with each step, and my clothes tightly glued to my body. This was worse than the time I got thrown into a pool fully clothed at a fraternity party during my sophomore year. At least back then I knew the reason why I was wet, and I knew who the dickhead who pushed me in was too.
Nothing but ashes were left of the fire I built last night. I pulled my shirt, boots, and pants off and tossed them to the side, shivering a little in the wind. I then pulled some logs and kindling from my inventory and after a few tries was able to get a fire going. I pulled a few sticks from my inventory and did the best I could to prop my clothes up as close to the fire as possible without setting them on fire. Still constantly grumbling to myself. When I finally stopped and started to warm myself my body decided it was time to remind me I was starving and dehydrated. It was like I hadn't eaten in over a week and hadn't had water in 3 days. I grabbed my waterskin and drained it dry, I tossed it to the side and pulled out one of the roasted rabbits. It was still warm, but this didn't even register as I started tearing into the meat.
I ended up eating two of the roasted Two-Tailed rabbits and ended up walking back to the water, refilled the waterskin and proceeded to dunk my head into the water and drink my fill. My mind was solely focused on filling my stomach and satisfying my thirst. Once I had my fill, I collapsed next to the fire with a nearly blank mind.
Once my body was warmed back up, I realized how awkward I felt sitting on the ground in a open glade, in a forest, on an unknown magical world naked. I checked out my pants, they were still a little damp, but they weren't drenched any more. My shirt and boots were still far to wet for me to feel comfortable putting them back on right now. I pulled my now only damp pants back on, a slight grimace showing on my face at the discomfort and sat back down as close to the fire as I could.
Wait! Did I succeed at getting the mana to flow through the mana channels in my body? I'm not dead so that would be a check on the side of me succeeding, but could I have failed after passing out? Completely forgetting I could check my notifications I started mediating. It took me a few minutes before I could calm my mind enough to be able to visualize my core, and what I saw astounded me.
I had succeeded, the mana had darkened in shade slightly and was now flowing throughout my body before returning to my core. What was really unexpected was at each of the twelve geometrical symbols mana was slowly leaking out into my body. I hurriedly and checked my mana gauge and was relieved to see it was still full.... Before I started the process my mana was sitting at 360, somehow it was now at 400! Just by starting my mana flow, added 40 mana points to my total! I was now 100% sure that this wasn't normal, unless the book was missing a lot of information.
Looking back towards the mana that was leaking from the geometrical points along my mana pathway, it seemed the mana was actually slowly entering my cells. The mana seemed to be slowly changing my cellular structure, but I had a feeling I couldn't explain that this would be a good thing and wouldn't harm me. Taking a larger view of the pathways and flow of my mana I marveled at its intricacy and beauty. Taking a few minutes to enjoy the mesmerizing view, I then opened my eyes.
I noticed my notification icon was blinking at me, but instead of the usual white color of it, it was blinking a gold color. Well that was new, I thought while I mentally clicked on it. And I heard a new sound from the system, trumpets sounded, and drums boomed.
<<Congratulations Magus! The world of Negressea recognizes and welcomes Magus Hawk Direveil!>>
The message appeared to be gilded in gold, with intricate carvings of plants and animals bordering the message. I was just trying to learn magic, and directly became a Magus? And the World is recognizing me and welcoming me?! What is a Magus? That's when I noticed more notifications waiting for me.
Thanks for reading! I will try and publish a couple extra chapters over the next few days so we can get through these character building chapters. I promise they are nearly done! And that way we can see what our MC will get into. If you are enjoying the story so far please leave a comment/review/PS, they are greatly appreciated!
